yeah why they have to ask these questions, they are supposed to be born with that knowledge. seriously, forums are supposed to be places where people can learn. ive been learning a lot on my home forum (not this), and its where ive found people kind enough to help me out, ven when i ask the most stupid questions. im shure djsphere here just knows everything (as he can tell the future). this is not the attitude to go, i know forums where stablished artists rspond to question like "how does X make this sound in track Y?" and they are humble enough to kindly explain step by step, and on which tool they did it. thats being pro, what u said is plain lame attitude. hey where is ur best trance anthem? i wanna hear it.
any way mu suggestions are
cubase sx3 (vst host, audio/midi sequencer )
NI Battery 2 (vsti drum sampler)
audiorealism bassline (vsti TB-303 emulation, great bass)
Refx Vanguard (vsti good for leads, arps, pads, fx and much more!)
LinPlug Albino 3 (vsti good all around synth, not for main leads)
Discodsp Discovery (vsti amazing Nord Lead 2 emulation analog beast)
Spectrasonics Atmosphere (vsti amaazing ambient pads and sounds)
Waves platinum Bundle v. 5 (vst fx the best effects combo, all u need)
Ohmforce Plugins (vst fx good for weird and complex fx)
how u get them is up to u??? all these are worth buying, i promise!

look at the master thread this is in there best synths 2005

its not the synth but the producer doing the programming
you could have the worst synth ever and get great results it all depends on you

and i just love having a cool graphic interface and midi learn.
