^^ LOL .

i hear the 360 overheats a lot, the dude at future shop said they get returned one out of every five they sell .. he told me to wait for the PS3 ..

Posted by infinity HiGH on Aug-12-2006 16:40:

lol yea cause sony's equipment is fool-proof

Posted by DJ_Elyot on Aug-12-2006 17:17:

Nintendo has always had the more durable hardware and controllers out of the three. Your average gamecube can be tossed out of a 2nd-storey window and still work. A PS2 can break from being dropped 3 or 4 feet. Nintendo has been known to test the durability of its hardware by chucking gameboys and controllers from from high-rise apartment balconies. I read an article about a guy who left his gameboy out for A WINTER, only to discover it the next spring when he RAN OVER IT WITH HIS LAWNMOWER. Of course, it still worked

The 360 will overheat if you put it in a cabinet or something... the instructions they give you on proper ventilation, etc, should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY.

I'm sure that Wii will have no such problems, knowing nintendo's reputation for having almost indestructible equipment.

i remember dropping my n64 down a flight of concrete stairs, when i was renovating, slipped out of my hands, and FLEW into the wlal when it hit the bottom.

Plugged it in, and was playing smash brothers 5 minutes later.

Fucking quality stuff.

Posted by malek on Aug-12-2006 18:03:

like any computer, the XBOX360 should be placed in a position that its ventilation exhausts are exposed to open air.

From my own experience, it looks like some of the earlier games themselves have some bugs, they look rushed.

Now i'm waiting for NHL2007

The PS3 as an 80's answering machine, complete with wood-panelling.

I can't relate to some of you hardcore gamers.

To be honest I can't keep a controller in my hand for longer than 20 minutes. Thus, I never found the ps series or xbox to be of any good... The games are just not my type. I like to play silly games, or something fun when all my friends are around, other than that I just gave up on gaming really.

But nintendo has captured some of my needs with a gaming system, mainly for the games and user friendly equipment, they've always played it safe and have a fair price tag. I'd be going for the Wii for sure, smash bros all the way.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Aug-13-2006 05:08:

It's funny how the tables have turned. Back in the day, Sony was the one responsible for diversifying the gaming market by getting more people into video gaming. Then with the PS2 and Xbox even more people got into video games. Now Nintendo is coming in with the Wii and from the looks of it even more people are going to play this thing, than ever before.

Nintendo products have more mass market appeal.. do you play syphon filter at a party? metal gear solid? Splinter Cell? No. You play Super Smash Brothers.. Mario Kart.. Mario Party.. They're much more intuitive and user friendly. Not saying that Sony is bad.. but they're for a mature crowd. XBOX is somewhere in between.

Posted by E2EK1EL on Aug-13-2006 18:32:

We all know Nintendo is for kids, back in when SNES was the shit, its b/c, lots of companies signed with them ... as long as you have Square on your side, you won the console war. Every gamer know that ... the ones in denies this, are still playing Nintendo.

Yea... PC gaming is great, but for me, the effort to constantly upgrade hardware and struggle with installing/uninstalling, etc is such a pain. When you buy a game for Gamecube, if you've got a Gamecube, you can play it right away, and not worry about your hardware, OS, peripherals, etc. PC gaming suffers from hackers, and you never really know if the people you're playing with are winning because of skill, or because they're running bots/programs to play the game for them.

PC gaming has succeeded in FPS and RTS genres, primarily because these genres make heavy use of the mouse. It's just a pain in the ass to play command and conquer or quake with a joystick. The internet has spawned the success of computer MMORPGs, but now that consoles are going online, the computer has lots its monopoly there. I still prefer my gamecube to the PC for casual gaming, single-player games, and party games. The only game I really use my PC for is Starcraft.

That's what makes it to appealing to me. Customization. I don't want to have what everybody else does. I want exclusivity. Cool shit. Stuff that you can say to other nerds, "YEAH WELL MINE HAS 8 VERTEX SHADERS AND 16X ANSIOTROPIC FILTERING"

Uh huh.

Nah... I prefer the level playing field that consoles offer. I don't want to have to buy $1100 worth of hardware so I can play 2 or 3 games at a decent framerate, only to have to dish out another $1000 a year later so I can play the next 2 or 3 games at a decent framerate.

Consoles are for communists.

I have a Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB right now that I've had for about 3 years, and the last game it played decently was Doom3, but at the lowest quality settings, and barely 30fps.

It's by far the biggest bottleneck in my system, followed by the fact that I don't have PCI-X slots in my mobo, only AGP

Nintendo can suck my overgrown hairy right ball

Getting fucked up and playing NHL 06 ftw

The biggest bottleneck is always the harddrive

Eeexactly. The only game that interests me on the PS3 is Metal Gear Solid 4

Exactly. Sony is doing nothing new. However, on the North American market, where flash and style mean more than substance, Sony will still do well.

As for the PC market, it's a totally different type of gamer, that whom sits at a PC, and that whom sits at a console. COnstantly upgrading is a pain, and it is pretty damn expensive to run a system capable of running the latest games the way they're meant to be ran.

HD's are never a bottleneck, it usually is the video card. Doom3 on a 9000...is that possible?

Posted by Orko on Aug-14-2006 14:33:

Hard drives are the bottle neck in loading time, and not in processing time. It may take a lot longer to load a level, but once the level is loaded into RAM, then the his video card will probably be the limiter.

I was a huge PC gamer for a long time. I remember paying the same price for a video card, as the ps2 cost when i got it. I was more than happy because of the games and graphics levels for PC. The games have fallen way back now, and the graphics are just too intense. Having to spend that much money to play a game on a decent rig, just doesnt make sense anymore.

Has anybody even been into a EB lately for a PC game? Tiny selection. You cant even get all the newest EA sports games, and they were always at the front. The day I cannot get a NHL game for PC, is the day I walk away from PC gaming.

The harddrive is the slowest component in any computer, and that is why we have RAM. So you're right, for game performance, the harddrive probably doesn't mean much. Nonetheless, the harddrive is still the slowest component in a computer.

EDIT: Orko beat me to it.

there is no point arguing wich console is better, its like music, house or trance. It all depends on what you like, what your style is and who u r loyal to, personally i am a PLAYSTATION GUY, i love the MGS series and i find nintendo too cutsie wootsie for my liking. and if u guys r wondering about an even better console, wait for microsoft, if u see what theyve don in the past ull see that theyll do it again, they wait for sony and nintedo to release their console at the samew time and a yearater they release an even better one, wiht no competeition.

also watch out and keep ur ears open cuz there r rumors of a next generation consle that will change everythin, being put out by SEGA, WTFFFFFF!!!!!!

WTF? I thought sega was owned by Nintendo now...

If this is true, it could be another dreamcast-style flop. LOL
