I do this too with new tracks. I'll figure out what energy level/mood the track is, and from there figure out where in a set I would put the track (and what other tracks I had that would fit with it). This is where I end up 're-discovering' older tracks that I haven't used in a while.

I think finding new good tunes and placing them into a set are the most fun parts of DJing (for me). The mixing becomes secondary to me when I am piecing together a set that flows well and moves between a variety of different moves, all while getting people to dance
