Sorry to hear your leaving the scene, but it does sound like you need a break, 20 years is a long time, and I'm sure most people would be after that long, I have only been DJing for about 12 years and I have burnt out a couple of times, once for how the scene changed and the the second one for realizing I wanted to change my genre/style, the scene has changed alot since I have been with it, and I'm sure its changed a hellava lot more for you, if there is any advice I could give you that you don't already have, it would be not to sell your gear, but get away from the scene and alot of the music, you will then find out what you want.
Best of luck in whatever route of life you decide to take, I hope this at least doesn't mean you will be shy to the Booth, as you are a huge help to so many DJs on here including myself, I do think you have made a good choice though as family is the most important thing.
Best of luck, have fun in India.
Good luck in pursuing a different path. You've always been nice to us here! Keep us updated on your productions also. California Jailbreak was insane!
You can count on the fact then when I set aside a week of my life to read through the harmonic mixing thread, you'll be the first person I'm asking for advice.

It may sound Funny, but Nem has always been a huge inspiration to me and has really kept me spinning. Just like I know everyone here has done, when Nem posted, every word was followed and taken to heart.
It was always a breath of fresh air to have an experienced and knowledgeable and most importantly FRIENDLY AND OPEN person to share what they had to say to a bunch of newbies posting "Which Numarks Should I Buy?!", even if it was something of a ridiculous thread like that.
Thanks Nem, your words here are unreplacable
Good for you that you're moving toward accomplishing the other things you want to do with your life. I've read plenty of your posts on this forum, and I just wanted to say that you've had some great insight and advice to people that I as a crappy noob DJ have enjoyed immensely. Enjoy.
I always hate to see or hear about this but good luck to you.
As a person who is new to the scene, I can understand where you're coming from and wish you luck in future endeavors.
Muchos respectos.
Absolute best of luck in whatever follows mate, you'll always have our support.
It's a shame when that time comes but I hope that in your mind what you will be doing now will mean you're moving on to bigger and better things
Best of luck mate. Everything has been said by everyone, so I'm not gonna repeat it all, but enjoy whatever life brings you after this!
Re: Nem is hanging up the headphones...
I'm not in the least bit surprised, and understand what you mean 100%.
I share the exact same viewpoints as you, and quiete frankly, i think Djing will be completely different, or perhaps even non-existant in 30 years from now.
BTW, I love every single track that i've heard on ur list (top 5), and will try to listen to the others
. Damn.. wish i could've heard u play.
Best of luck, and I respect your decision.
Best Of wishes in the Future. Your input was always appreciated here in the booth. Hope your not gone for 2 long ~
respect to you, good luck with the future.

Maybe Im just hanging onto something that isnt there for me anymore. |
Good luck! Also, have fun in India. It was a shame we couldn't get together last time you were down, but if you'd like to know about some sick clubbing nights in Bombay- let me know, I'll hook you up!
Best of luck to you Bro.
You've been a great help to many and your legacy will live through them. as they pass the knowledge on.
Thanks for everything and much respect.
Dave
much respect and best of luck nem!
Hey Nem, I want to say and recogfnize that you have been the most helpful person in TA for me.
You haven't answered directly to me, but I've searh and read your post, and I have a learn a lot from you.
Your list it's very nice =)
Thank you for Everything, and I wish thew best for you and your family.
See ya
Pepa
Thank you Karl, for helping me as much as you have in the last couple of years here. It's because of you that I've learned a great many things, from simple programming suggestions all the way up to essentially holding my hand as I learned the ropes of harmonic mixing, and I couldn't be more grateful for the lessons I've learned.
Massive respect to you my friend, and may the rest of your journey in life see only the finest of days. I'm not usually one for words that have any religious or spiritual significance, but, for the rest of your days...
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
Cheers,
Rob
Can't believe I missed this thread! See what happens when you're out of town on business for a few days? I'll just echo some of the others: I'm a noob bedroom DJ, but your posts have always been helpful, well-reasoned, intelligent, and sincere. I don't recall you ever bashing someone for asking a "noob" question. I don't recall you ever berating someone for his or her question. Thanks for all your insight, and enjoy your time with your family. I often look at mine and wonder where the time has gone so quickly. This year it's kindergarten and fourth grade, and before I know it they'll be asking for the car keys and date money.
Enjoy your vacation, and I do hope to see you back here again soon.

Best of luck. I will miss your insights into the world of djing and I hope you find what your wanting to do.
much respect to a man who definitely deserves it - Nem, again, best of luck on your future endeavors.
however, i must comment, don't let the new blood get you down, these days, gadgetry has made it easier and sound a bit overcooked in many cases, but the sound of someone doing it oldschool and doing it well is unbeatable.
i understand this isn't the only reason, but i just felt the need to comment on that.
and this comes from no veteran DJ, but from some new blood, rather. while i myself favor toys with many bells and whistles, to this day, my favorite DJ still spins his vinyl on 2 tech12s and nothing more, and delivers better sets than anyone else i've seen live.
