I also need to buy a video card for my little brother and don't know much about this stuff.
I am basically looking for a mid range card for games like new gta and nfs

I saw these two cards: geforce 7300 gs (PCI e) and radeon x1300pro

are they good?
any better recommendations for mid range cards?

the pc is P4 2.4gh
512 ram
the power supply is 330 or 350 w max I think

I'd have to change it?

thanks in advance

This is the one I'm getting with my PC which I pick up on Wed. Woot!
Asus Extreme AX1600XT (Silent Edition) PCI-E Video Card w/256Mb
http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?...&l1=2&l2=8&l3=0

It's based on the ATI Radeon X1600XT chipset.

For the record, I've never had a problem with ATI chipsets....ever.

That really depends on what else is in your system.
The more components, the more wattage you'll need.

According to ATI's website, they recommend a min. of a 350W P/S for using their Radeon X1300 PRO.

Nvidia doesn't mention anything on their site but I'd say the same for their card; min. 350W P/S.

Dude If your gaming stay away man!!!
It not the chip thats are the prob its the drivers. Also just try and phone ATi and see how long you wait for support. I think that is going to get worse over the next while too due to AMD taking over!!!

What's the big hubbub with support, lol? I've never had to call support for a video card EVER. All the info you need is out there on the Internet. You'd get a solution a lot faster if you look in the right places rather than relying on phone support. Same goes for drivers - you just need to know where to look.

haha kingston. i go to university here which is why i'm in kingston.
did you know the first CC was in kingston? lol
anyway yeah, it's a shame customers can't get more attention. it's just employees don't really get any incentives since we're not on commision.

That's only true if you don't have the bleeding edge technology.
But then, all new technology has revisions in drivers even after they've become public...

Im running AMD bro!!
Just alway had probs with EVERY ATI Product I bought.

I had old RAGE series cards that never gave me issues but that was back in the 4/8 mb days!!! lol

I just recently bought this ATi HDTV Tuner and to get that thing working was a nightmare using their drivers and Utilities.

If is used a 3rd party PVR/Player utility and the Driver that came with windows(supplied by ATI) then the card worked like a dream.
Also they are refusing to release 64-bit drivers because basically they have a newer HDTV Tuner card and they want people to have to buy it! Dirty imo. So now I have a useless $200 card if I want to run 64-bit OS!

You'll also notice alot of games have to come up with patches directly related to ATI driver issues.

Don't get me wrong ATI make good hardware and excellent High-end stuff and I would love to buy canadian but their drivers suck!
