I still like Sander Van Doorn. The recent remix of Take Me Away restored my faith in him after a few lackluster sets. I'm not ready to start judging him this early in his 'breakout' year as many are calling it.

i pretty much agree with demoted, every since his essential mix, his recorded sets have been going south. he was pure fire at the beginning of 2006, but his last identity mix was MEHHHH. that being said, he's still one of the most phenomenal performances i've seen live. his 4.5 hour north american debut at 1015 here in sf was truly a journey through everything edm and none of his hour mp3 sets can even begin to reflect that. so i'll wait till i see svd live again before i pass judgment.
cliffs: svd extended club set > svd mp3 mixes x11tybillion
He will be replaced by Sean Tyas for the second half of this year imo.
yeah i thought his essential mix (06.25.06) was shit too. its too boring. he didnt bring anything new to his set. it just sounded like one big song
Again I think we're being to critical of his mixing. A DJ is just a DJ. Now if you're into scratching, beat-juggling and all that jazz I can understand being this anal about it. But the guy's job is to play tunes that people will shake their booty to and do it as seamless as possible. I try not to criticize a set unless I listen to it live and in person as it is an entirely different feeling. I bet most of the people who were present for that Essential Mix (assuming it was recorded live at a club) went absolutely bonkers the whole time.

I'm not tired of SvD... he is still carving his own (slightly dubious) niche in the hard/techy side of trance...
However, I am getting tired of 100 threads about him, making it appear he is gods gift to the next best thing in the scene.
He's hardly 'made it' yet.

Im gettin a little tired of the similar loops and basslines he uses. The remix of the Arctic Monkeys is pure gash imo. But is under his "Purple Haze" guise where there is real variety and touches of genius. As long as he can keep making the progression in that guise then ill be happy.
Would love to hear a new "Sandler" tune as well right enough

As for other top jocks not having their own sound...
Paul van Dyk: crap/pop/tech house (including stuff he just found from 2005) sped up to 138-140bpm. Spliced with some uplifting and hi nrg trance, a few techno and acid techno tracks thrown in for good measure.
Tisto: popish house, some "prog"ish house, vocal house, prog trance, and every now and then some epic/uplifting trance.
Armin: his crap taste in progressive trance with an occasional tech house track thrown in. From then on it's gripping on for whatever's left out of the epic/anthem/uplifting trance teat and watering it down for all it's worth.
Ferry: mostly his own productions which are generally clich tech house trying hard to maintain a trance feel. Then throw in some melodic/uplifting trance tracks in there.
At least that's what I hear. I'll await the chuckles at Tisto playing prog house, but whatever, that's my take on it. They each have their own sound, it's just usually crap. They're all trying desperately to branch out into house to garner a larger audience.

You can't get tired of someone you never really cared for in the first place.

Originally posted by Soeder indeed! he's got his own sound, can't say that about 99% of trance producers these days! I'd rather have him boore me to death with this sound that go with the damn flow this fuzz about him scares me, same happened to Marcell Woods and now he's on the bordeline the euro cheese. Fame is a curse!
(though the bit's and crushed remix was the best remix I've heard but nothing beats the orignal imo)

Originally posted by Demoted Back in the early 2000's and late 1999's it was mainly trance/techno as far as I have heard. As for the early 90's, house and techno. He didn't really have too much trance in his sets until 45rpm. I could be wrong, but this is just my take on it.

Originally posted by sandstorm03 just cause trance, techno & house sound differently through the years, doesnt mean he wasnt playing it all along... he has gone through different stages as has every dj, but his sound has basically stayed the same through time.
