She sure does... Just one question she is all excited about her new doors, but wtf shes 500 pounds and can't take care of herself. Where the hell is she gonna go?? If she can't take care of herself, then how the hell is she going to be able to even make it to the front door?

He would be a good caretaker for "drunk fat Lisa" and "drunk fat Margaret."

As long as he would keep TA running so we could feel some connection to the outside world.

New Developments For 500-pound Woman

A Chattanooga woman's dramatic saga continues. Fifty-two year old Peggie Johnson is morbidly obese, weighing more than 500 pounds. Her husband and daughter faced a Hamilton county judge for the first time Wednesday on charges of neglect and incest.

The more Channel Three talks to Peggie, the more she warms up. Now, she reveals how she got so big and what really went on behind the scenes in her Rossville Boulevard home.

"I still care in ways, but I'm tired of the way I'm being treated by him, him being with my daughter, them throwing it up in my face and they don't care," Peggie said.

Peggie Johnson is fed up with the actions of her thirty-four year old husband, Charles, and twenty-three year old daughter, Mary. "Charles and Mary would never hardly do what they were supposed to do or anything for me," she said.

The two are charged with having sex and neglecting to care for Peggie, who's too heavy to care for herself. "It's hard because you depend on someone for fourteen years, to just drop it all at one time," Peggie said.

A Hamilton County judge ordered Charles and Mary to stay away from Peggie until the case comes to a close. "I bring her meals over here, fried potatoes, she love fried potatoes, but I've been here several times, they throw food at her, they'll eat right in front of her and not ask if she wants any," said neighbor Sandra Everett. Everett has stepped in to help care for Peggie while Charles and Mary are gone. "I think she needs people that'll bring her spirit up and not bring her down no more," she said.

Just a year ago, Peggie weighed 350-pounds, it wasn't until a broken leg confined her to her bed, resulting in various diseases, that Peggie put on the extra weight. "Different things was going down and I just sort of gave up a little bit and one thing led to another and then when I broke my leg, I've been in this bed," she said. Peggie has a disease called Lymphoedema, which is a swelling of the leg where fluid collects and sores break out. Doctors also believe she may have an under-active thyroid which has contributed to her weight gain. As far as the future of the case against Charles and Mary, the two are free on bond, but are not allowed anywhere near Peggie. The step-dad and daughter will face a grand jury sometime within the next three to six months or even longer.

This story is gaining national attention from so many people reading about it on this site. WRCBTV.COM got more than 40,000 hits Wednesday through links from other websites.

First of all, when were these people deemed "caregivers"? Is there some sort of law that says if you are related to someone who is incredibly fat and cannot take care of themself, that you are thereby legally bound to take care of them?

I cannot possibly see how this is their fault! They shouldn't have to be taking care of this woman. She should be in a hospital of some sort under strict diet and muscle rehab. This isn't the job for some yankee husband who is banging his step-daughter.

I wonder if you'd be so adament about this had the woman had celebal palsy, severely handicapped, or was 80 yrs old and just frail. Whether they were being paid to be a caregiver or not, that's who she depended on.

i think people generally assume that this woman became obese as a result of gluttony from the initial article. But after a few more news reports it does appear that she suffers from certain types of health ailments causing her enlarged state, one of which is an abnormal thyroid gland.

I know abnormal thyroids can lead to being excessivly over or underweight, but 800 pounds?

Also in one of the videos you can see sugary pop bottles and chips by her table, im not saying its pure gluttony, but i do think it played a factor aswell.

Shes also a diabetic, which can often point to abuse in sugary foods i thought? I know this definatly isnt always the case, but a possibility. (Dont quote me on this, this is just a thought )

What people fail to realize is that food can be just as addicting as drugs for some people. Add in the fact that there's such a thing as 'emotional eating'- one may be overweight, then be depressed that they are the weight they are, and then eat more out of depression.
Its a vicious cycle.

Having spent over a thrid of my life being very overweight (up to 300lbs) I know all about this cycle, however, at some point people need to take responsibility for their actions. I know it can be hard but if she can't seek help that is her failling and her's alone. The very worst thing we can do for any persons stuck in a downward spiral of their own making is to pitty them as many do. That just allows them to continue their self-destruction comforted in feeling that they are a "victim" of circumstance rather then the author of their own demise.

that begs the question as to whether the state of Tenessee offers social services that cater to these types of problems. i'd be curious to know whether this woman would have received any help had it not been for all the media attention being put on this.

It also begs the question did she seek any help?

heh i guess we'll never know. she seems to be doing it now!

edit:

i think you can pretty much seperate everyone into 2 camps: those who place the onus on the individual and those who feel that it is beyond that individual's control, whereby the onus is now on the caregiver.

what i'd like to know is whether the husband bothered to seek social assistance if he was so fed up with the situation. i can't imagine how that woman would have been able to do it on her own given her state. she probably can't even get up to grab the phone book!

This is a really sad situation. I am glad to see that the caretakers are being charged with neglect!

as for the incest that's just sickening!
