Luv the photochop, Abercrombie approved

It's sad, he will be missed. However, he never was too careful, was he? Swinging his baby around a croc worse than Michael Jackson, nearly lost his life from a Cobra. Am I the only one who thought 'Darwin Award'?

Posted by geroin on Sep-05-2006 06:04:

he was playing with fire, it was bound to happen one day

Posted by cf2thousand on Sep-05-2006 06:20:

I found out this afternoon, and was in a partial state of shock and absolute disbelief.

I keep thinking of his infant son (the one he dangled infront of an alligator), and his poor wife Terri.... Sucks man ! Big time...

This is truly a sad sad story

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Sep-05-2006 06:26:

so does anybody know why he was stung? The reports are pretty vague..."he swam over the stingray, etc". I heard it was only the 2nd death from a stingray in Australia's history since they rarely attack anything. He was probably fucking with it in some way and was unlucky to get hit where he did since it can usually be treated easily.

He was an entertaining guy though... a bit arrogant and wreckless (that thing with his kid an the croc was silly) but overall, he did a lot of good things for nature.

R.I.P

Just cuz it was bound to happen one day doesnt mean you shouldnt pay your respects ... he did more for animals then we ever thought possible

At least he died with a smile on his faced doing what he loved ! AMEN To that

RIP.

Posted by Vivid Boy on Sep-05-2006 11:51:

the only thing i feel bad abt all of this is that he's prolly the only man who ever died who has the whole world saying "i told you so"

Posted by Abercrombie on Sep-05-2006 15:18:

Here's the video of the last moment b4 his death.

Police have been handed footage taken as Irwin, 44, filmed what was to be his last documentary. It shows him swimming above a stingray when it lashed out and speared him in the heart with its barbed tail, manager John Stainton told reporters.

"He pulled it out and the next minute he's gone," he said.

"The cameraman had to shut down. It's a very hard thing to watch because you're actually witnessing somebody die ... it's terrible," Stainton said.

Police said it appeared Irwin was just watching the ray.

"There is no evidence that Mr Irwin was intimidating or threatening the stingray," Queensland police spokesman Mike Keating told reporters.

Marine experts say stingrays can deliver horrific, agonizing injuries from the toxin-laden barbs, which can measure up to 20 cm (8 in) in length and cause injuries like a knife or bayonet.

"It's not the going in that causes the damage, it's the coming out where those deep serrations kind of pull on the flesh, and you end up with a very jagged tear which is quite a pronounced injury," said Dr Bryan Fry, deputy director of the Australian Venom Research Unit.

quote:

Environmental documentary maker Ben Cropp said Irwin was swimming alongside a bull stingray, probably weighing around 100 kg (220 lb).

Stingrays are normally placid and only attack in self-defense. But Irwin's cameraman was filming in front of it and it probably became frightened and lashed out.

Stainton said the cameraman only became aware of the attack when he noticed Irwin bleeding.

Ya know... doctors say the worst thing you can do if you're stabbed by a knife is to pull it out, you must leave it in so you don't bleed to death, and have the surgeons remove it.

Granted the barb is poisonous, but perhaps he killed himself by removing it?

It is sad, but it is something that is expected in the line of business he was in. It's a matter of safety and odds. RIP.

Very sad news. Crocodile Hunter Steve brought many hours of entertainment/infotainment to my life and it is unfortunate that new generations of fans will only know him through re-runs.

His wife and children always were a big part of his life (and shows) and ultimately the man died doing what he loved best - teaching the world about nature in wild and daring ways. Steve put a unique twist on his wilderness/conservation passion and pioneered a captivating way of spreading his message.

RIP.

+1

I am just hearing about this today as I am watching TV. It is really sad to hear and he will be missed by many. Even if you didn't like him directly, you couldn't help but to keep the channel on to see what would happen next. Such a shame.. RIP

"I have no fear of losing my life," Irwin once claimed. "If I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it." And you knew he was for real. Irwin was a fair dinkum Crocodile Dundee without the fake tan or the facelift. He epitomised the legend of the Aussie bushman

fucken top aussie!

i'm gonna get mangled tonight
in honour of the great man.

Such incredibly, sad, sad news! Im almost beside myself in disblief! I loved watchign this man do his thing!
