CSKA got a draw in Portugal, which is pretty strong and Russian teams isn't very good outside Russia.

Hamburg lost against Arsenal, but I think van Persie dived and got their GK sent off. Rosicky scored the second goal for Arse.

Manchester United won over Celtic, 3:2, Sure was a good game. I still hate Saha though..

Steaua won over Dynamo Kiev with 1:4 in Ukraine which is a fantastic result even though Dynamo hasn't impressed for a very long time. Still happy for the Romanians.

Copenhagen got a draw, but Benfica could've won the game if they had luck with the post in the end of the game. Fair result though, and not a spectacular game.

AC Milan won over AEK Athens with 3:0 and Gourcoff scored his first goal for Bilan.

wow rosicky's goal is awesome Rockabye where are you ?

The shock today was Steaua hammering Dynamo, i knew the romanians had some quality but thought they were too unexperienced for the Champions League, guess not.

Disappointed at our lack of something extra to beat CSKA today, we dominated the game and had some chances but in the 2nd half impatience and anxiety took over the crowd and the players. This is a game we had to win, but it's only the 1st round.

I knew Benfica were on crap form so not surprised at all by their 0-0 in Denmark, I thought they would even lose.

That's probably why you thought it sucked, but I love tactical games and the Liverpool-defence was pretty stable.

Not many good chances, but the tempo was great and ofcourse, Liverpool didn't allow anything. They were close to win this game though, Gerrard with the shot in the post.

yeah I only watched the 2nd half, but omg did it suck, PSV wasnt even really trying out there it seemed and liverpool was like eh .The tempo was horrible in the 2nd half i saw.

now Celtic vs Man U was alot better and not just cause it was 3-2

The referee decided this game. It was no 100% penalty for Arsenal and the sent off was way too much.

We played very well in the first 10 minutes but after the sent off the game was shit...

Posted by zoric on Sep-14-2006 12:35:

Peter Frjdfeldt fucked Hamburg yesterday after van Persie's dive. It was nothing else than a yellow card to van Persie.

Unfortunately, Arsenal won the game after a bad call from the referee..

Why the fuck Real always has to lose Lyon every year, WTF!

Because Lyon is a really good team?

I don't think it was a penalty, but the ref by pointing to the spot had to show the red card to the keeper. It was a more than clear goal opportunity.

bump

Bad day for us in the Portugal-England rivalry. As for upsets, only slightly surprising to see Lille forcing Milan to concede points in France.

3 *great* matches to choose from tomorrow: Inter-Bayern, Valencia-Roma and Bremen-Bara. Lots of entertainment, don't forget you can also catch Spartak-Sporting as it starts earlier (Russia and timezones...)

I dont think any team deserves to win this trophy more than lyon do .. they been by far the most consistent team in europe the past few years scoring big wins and playing great football only to fuck it up in the quarters

Posted by fastmp3 on Sep-27-2006 05:27:

if lyon was in spain/italy/england, they would never be champions. french league is too weak, that's why they're dominating

This result put my mate out 350, he was none to pleased that milan were disallowed a perfectly good goal as well.

Betting, it's a mugs game.

Now, the all time Champions League scorers' top-2 is in Madrid: Ral (53) and Ruud (45).

Yeah I agree, I'd be quite happy if Lyon finally made it this year. It's a bit strange since they don't really have top superstars, just a large number of effective players who work really well together.

French league is indeed weaker, but they're improving. And I honestly think the current Lyon would at least challenge for the title in any league, they're too superior to all other teams in France.

The most impressive is that they've been surviving by selling a single key player per season, yet managing to improve the team year by year. I really wonder if we (Porto) couldn't have done something similar, we could still be a top squad in Europe just like Lyon.

If you don't include qualifying goals Take a look at this website: http://euro.futbal.org/EC1.scorers.php, Shevchenko has at least a word to say.

For sure I don't include them: qualifying round is qualifying round. As the World Cup is not the same as the WC Qualifying Rounds: you gotta achieve on them to play in the real tournament.

Posted by noikeee on Sep-27-2006 15:23:

Fine, I agree qualifying shouldn't count, just saying Shevchenko deserves a mention as he's also only been overtaken by Ruud yesterday. An extra motivation factor for the game in Bulgaria perhaps.

Well, I guess that didn't motivate him.

Sheva looked very lost today. If he doesn't get in gear anytime soon, he may find himself losing his spot to some other guy.

Posted by fastmp3 on Sep-28-2006 06:35:

i love sheva but i hope he keeps on struggling, it will teach him not to ditch Milan

Posted by fcuk on Sep-28-2006 07:27:

Sheva cannot adapt to the English style of football, shame on him for leaving Milan.

Posted by zoric on Sep-28-2006 10:28:

You really expect him to adapt to the English type of football after a couple of weeks?

That's impossible as we all know, English football is way faster than Italian and it takes time for you to change your view of playing with those faster players and faster thinking managers. Speed is a valuable quality which Scheva has, and I'm sure he'll adapt, But the process takes time.

You can't adapt to another type of playing football, when you've been in Italy for 7 years, and suddenly you just adapt to the English game after one night, Impossible.

These things take time..

Posted by noikeee on Sep-28-2006 13:04:

I'm actually quite surprised to see Sheva underperforming, players that move from Italy to England tend to become stars, not the opposite.. English football is faster but italian football is tighter, forwards should feel more confortable in England.
