There's an option in iTunes that updates the tracks on your iPod as soon as you start iTunes with iPod plugged in. You can turn that option off.

How often do you guys defragment your iPod's harddrive?

Also, rockbox has been able to do this for a while and also, I hate iTunes, because I run on an older system I find it to be a massive RAM whore.

Well, yeah, it wasn't really a full 2 second gap, but still, it's better when the gap is even shorter.

Btw, I restore my iPod's HDD whenever I'm updating my music on it.

Unhappy

Anyone else have regular battery problems? 3 times my sis has had to send her ipod back to get it replaced/repaired, the IPOD has the sad face icon on it and she's tried restoring and everything.... bah :/

I never loved my iTunes so much. Version 7 is what I call an awesome update. The design is great, the software is great.
Not only the gapless Playback is great, but some of the "smaller" improvements (such as "album interpret" tag) are VERY good.

Coverflow was also integrated very well once again, and it works like a dream. Of course you need the covers of the tracks/albums etc, and the tags have to be well entered. Otherwise it will result in cover chaos. But my personal collection is carefully tagged and I love it.

For me version 7 makes iTunes the best mp3 organizer available..

It would be HUGE if iTunes/iPod read cue files.

Untill then, yawn.

yes, its not the mp3 files itself, but how itunes and the ipod plays them. go checkout the demo and download the new itunes 7 for yourself.. i just did a quck split of armins ASOT 265 and wow, ive never been so amazed with my itunes.. im going to buy the 80gb ipod tommorow and dump my entire essentialmix archive and ASOT archive (and yess i have them all since ASOT 001)_ and im going to go on a cue searching spree. there goes my weekend.

No, it is the mp3. Mp3 compression requires several ms of blank space at the begining and end of any song. Just simply how the frames require setup.

A) How long do i have before it deletes everything with it's update
B) Will I be able to add songs or it's going to update with the new library and fuck me?

lame encoded mp3 has a header that can do gapless...

I hear various people from hydrogenaudio.org confirm that it is very close to true gapless(only 20ms delay or so), and it is definitely not the crossfading shit.

Grrrrr I've got Itunes 7 installed and everytime I open a video up in any other program or actually use software like MSN voice chat and stuff it makes itunes pause and crackle with the sound.... ffs! any idea how to fix it? I have 2gb of ram so the RAM aint an issue

Posted by Dilmeet on Sep-14-2006 19:31:

wait so ITUNES 7 can split the mp3s? i don't understand

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Sep-14-2006 19:32:

Being a winamp/WMP user myself I don't know a lot about iTunes, but are you telling me all this time the Apple tools were listening to sets on their iTunes and iPods with a 2-sec gap between the songs?

And this is a revolutionary update they call it?

I'm surprised Apple didn't try to patent gap-less playback. God knows none of the other media players out there have that.

Same here.

The skipping got to me so fucking much that I untinstalled 7 and tried to reinstall 6, but because my library was created with a newer version of iTunes than the one I was trying to install (i.e. 7 changed the library with all the gapless shit), it wasn't having any of it.

Fuck.

Posted by Enjoy on Sep-14-2006 21:52:

Although the new gapless feature is neat (no need to keep cue files anymore), iTunes7 sucks because of its sluggishness.

I only just downloaded today so I've still yet to give a verdict.

I'm still prefering version 6.
