yeah, you're right, it's not spam. it's way worse than spam. spam you can just delete without even opening/reading it. here you have to participate to something you don't want to, otherwise you see this annoying "not-spam" in every fucking thread you open. what a great way to "market" it.

Yes, and in the time you spent typing that up you could've clicked, put an X in 5 boxes, clicked submit and have opted out.

With regards to 'marketing' - it's an internal poll - hence, what incentive would you suggest I provide? A monetary one would not apply, so, what else? Rather than speak in expletives perhaps you could bestow your wisdom upon me.

It's amazing that on a relatively ad-free forum that when you prompt users to participate/opt-out of something that a select few choose to react with such hostility. Thanks for giving back.

i have nothing against the poll itself, just the way you're "marketing" it. i've always hated forcing anyone to do anything and that's pretty much what you're doing here IMO, forcing people to participate in the poll. i didn't vote on it because i haven't heard enough djs this year to give a proper vote, otherwise i probably would have voted before this "marketing" campaign started. if i now had my favorite 5 djs figured out i probably wouldn't vote because of the "marketing".
that's just me though. personally i have a hard time understanding why you decided to do things this way.

i can't call it spam, so i called it "marketing" as i get the feeling you're getting some sort of gain from this as you use such agressive ways to get it through. also english is not my mother tongue, so it was kinda diffucult for me to think of a term better than "marketing" for this situation.

Yes, the many hours I spend putting the poll together mean that whether 10,000 users or 50,000 vote is the same amount of effort to me - however, the results will be more accurate with a higher # of votes.

If you opt-out you can always go in and place your vote later.

I don't see it as aggressive - aggressive is a pop-up or forcing you to vote right after you log-in to the forums - before you can even view a thread. I'd never do that... also, for the record, I did this exact same thing last year too - only difference being that you probably voted before I activated it.

it's agressive and in your face, and a lot of people just don't care. You should go about it differently instead of forcing me to do it. I made up results. I didn't fill in what I believed. I just did it quick to get it out of my face. I hope your poll ends up completely retarded!

i think you've already said more than enough. You're just another jerk who's happy to promote his own radio show & get people to do things for you, but the moment you have to give something back to the site you get all bitchy as if it's your god forgiven right to be all stuck up.

Woah Tranceaddict in training ! Sounds like you are biting off more than you can chew! I have gone out of my way to help people when i knew the answer to their questions, I have stimulated intelligent conversation, I have made various friends and have been a productive member of tranceaddict for about 3 years or so now. Sometimes I say things a little tongue in cheek because you guys get so uppity over everything and it's fun to see the responses, but more often than not I am helpful.

As for my radio show, I have gone out of my way to try and get people on tranceaddict exposure on the internet. I am trying to give back to the community. I have made a lot of friends on here and do what I can to help new people out. A lot of people have been very kind to me on this site and answered many of my questions and whenever somebody has a question about mixing or music they should feel free to ask me about it. When people ask dumb questions like "Is trance dead?" Or "do you think tiesto likes ice cream" thats when i post obnoxious comments.

So Ian, why don't you put in some time on this site before you start lecturing others?

boom tish. If you did any sort of check, you'd see I have over 18000 posts on this site. That's what, a good 36, maybe 37 times what you have. Thanks for trying though, I appreciate it

This site on the whole has turned in the last 2 years into a spamfest where anybody who has a digital label, a radio show, or a cracked copy of fruity loops wishes to use the traffic of this site to help themselves. In this time, the overall spirit which was abundant 3 years ago has disappeared, replaced with the spam + "post a fucking sample" everytime a track is mentioned that's new or hyped. People who have given a lot to this community have left because they cannot handle all of the shit caused by this new attitude. All that is being asked is to pick 5 names, type them out, and click a button. It doesn't take a dj scott edward to figure this out surely?

18,0000 posts, 100 posts, it's all the same

tranceaddict is voluntary
i shouldnt be forced to enter polls. I shouldnt be bothered every time i try to post with TRANCEADDICT SPAM

Its no better than any other spam, it's just endorsed by tranceaddict. There are other ways tranceaddict can go about promoting this.

Indeed. Don't like the way things are handled? Don't come here then. Simple as that.

Where as this was a childish thing to do, a lot of others will have inadvertently done it too. After a few times of seeing that post, it becomes very irritating. Many people wanting to vote, but in their own time, will have just entered 5 names without giving it much thought in order to get rid of it.

I opted for the 5 x's in the end - but initially, I did quickly place 5 names in the box before promptly deciding that I hadn't given my vote enough thought. It doesn't give a good true representative if the person ended up just sticking 5 names in on the spur of the moment, which is no doubt what some people will have ended up doing.

Couldn't agree with a statement more.

All these "polls" do is illicit kneejerk reactions from thousands of people who really haven't given a second of thought to their vote.

It's how I voted in the TA poll. And out of my 5 votes in teh DJ Mag poll, only one meant anything, and it was because it was for a friend.
