I was a resident at a local Hip-Hop club for about 6 months, and I wasn't allowed to play anything that had even a remotely 4/4 beat to it. The best bet I had was to play 4/4 remixes of Hip-Hop/Top 40 songs. Otherwise I would be harassed by people until I put the Promo Only CD back on. Believe me, that was NOT fun... Your best bet is to go with remixes of the major Pop hits, but even then you won't be able to play more than two of them in a row. You can find some good Top 40 remixes on the Ultimix/Funkymix CDs (a remix service series)... I've had some shit like that happen to me as well: Drunk Chick: Hey DJ, can you play something I can dance to? *House music is playing* Me: This is 'Dance' music. Other people are dancing to it. *There WERE people dancing* Drunk Chick: No I mean music that I can dance to! Here's the problem with the local Top 40 clubs: You can't please everybody, no matter what. You play 50 Cent, they ask for Yung Joc. You play Yung Joc, they ask for 50 Cent. Play too much 50 Cent, and they ask for House or Trance (usually it's "can you play that Crazy Frog song? I LOVE Techno!!!"). You play the cheesy Dance song, they ask for Hip Hop again. You can NEVER WIN in a Top 40 club. |

lmao @ the crazyfrog comment! i started off as a house/trance dj. i got a couple of gigs at some clubs in the area and they all wanted to hear hip hop. i had to learn how to spin hip hop or lose my job... i learned and i love it (but when i'm at home its all house/trance). i dont mind hip hop at all now ~ it is a totally diff style and i enjoy seeing the crowd happy and dancing. i dj for the crowd not myself.
but yeah if you cant do hip hop dont dj for a hip hop crowd thats common sense.
i'll tell you what though, if you know how to spin hip hop, you can make a good living because; like it or not, its what most people wanna hear...
whats some good baltimore hiphop?
so close yet so far...
i dont know if you can get baltimore club from beatport or any of those mp3/wav download sites. you can listen to clips of the tracks to see if you like it/them.
you could just type "baltimore club" in a limewire search engine and listen to a few tracks...
