Its like Xabi was shooting at an empty net since goalie didnt even touch the ball.

BULLSHIT

Are you saying ANY goal is lucky because of a goalie fault? He was caught completely unawares as he thought there was no way someone would shoot from 70 yards (damn right) so Alonso was not only technically brilliant but strategically a step ahead of the game also.

No luck boys, pure fucking skill.

Oh c'mon now, how is it skill that the goalie tripped? That's just old fashioned dumb luck.

LUCK is what allowed this goal to happen. Goalie had BAD LUCK and slipped on the grass, else he would have easily deflected the ball.

Xavi had SKILL in hitting the net from mid field.

LUCK > SKILL in this case

BULLSHIT on your bullshit - the ball was in the air for nearly 3 seconds - nobody has that slow of a reaction time. He wasn't caught unawares, he slipped.

its ok .. shes a scouser ... they arnt used to success in the premiership so let them have their moment of fun

Alonso definitely deserves more credit for his self-belief alone.

Steven Gerrard was clear on the wing when Xabi took possession, and would've been the ideal man to distribute the ball to rather than greatly risk giving the ball away to Newcastle with a "fluke" shot.

Considering Liverpool were only up by 1-0 at the time with just over 10 minutes left to play, to even consider trying that takes a helluva lotta nerve. No doubt, Benitez woulda bollocked him had he not scored.

He slipped because he saw the ball coming and shit himself! Got all flustered and fucked up. That, my dear boys, was a brave move on Alonso's part (yes Syd, he would surely have been bollocked had he not scored) that caught the goalie off guard which caused him to slip....

Raveed, I am not a scouser, I am from Stoke-on-Trent.

In the current climate of the diving Italians and cheating Portuguese, let the cheeky Spanish Scouser have his glory.

luck and skill go hand in hand in football...

I think the goal is beautiful, well done.

See what happens when you shoot at the net? Maybe the Leafs can watch some Football and learn how to play Hockey? (opening can of worms...)

Posted by samhouse on Sep-23-2006 16:00:

hah go liverpool!!!

for someone who's been playing soccer all his life i just want to say to all of you who are saying that this goal was a fluke, you haven't played a competitive soccer match in your life. xabi alonso deserves all the credit in the world for this goal. 99.99999999% of you would not have even hit the net from that position even if the goalie went to order a beer and have a joint while he was drinking it. this goal is top 3 this year without any doubts. btw great game this morning reds, hotspur do not look good at all this year though.

sad part is that a lot of people say they are suffering because of carricks absence in center midfield but hes not exactly doing very well at old trafford so far ... hope fergie gives him a lot more game time

Posted by geroin on Sep-25-2006 18:05:

he has actually tried that kind of a shot a few times before and once almost made it but the goalie caught the ball in the last second, so no not a fluke

yes mentally it is hurting them that carrick isn't there even though i belive carrick is a little overrated. the problem with spurs now is their lack of goalscoring. they will rebound however uefa spot is out of the question imo.
