i really like her voice. even if the track isn't his best work, the girl can certainly sing. she's sings a bit in the movie Clueless too and i was even impressed with her voice then.

I'm replying to both of you:

How the hell is playing a song "butchering" it? Some songs in my mp3 collection I listened to over 50 times. Am I butchering those too? Or is it only getting butchered when it's sent over the airwaves?

I'm so sick of this attitude that just because z103 plays a song, it somehow ruins it. This Is Not Miami made it into countless House AND Trance sets, I've heard it a LOT more than I should have, and I don't even listen to z103. By your "butchering" definition, the same underground where the song should be kept (A nice big to that too btw) is butchering it also because nearly every DJ put it into their set at least once. so why aren't you whining about the underground butchering songs? Oh that's right, because you "belong" to the underground.

Ahhhhh I think cosmic fur captured the whole "underground" issue bang on...

Agreed ...

if you dont like z103, dont listen to it, and if it pisses you off that someone started a thread on it ... then dont read it ... SIMPLE

LOL "new" in relative terms of the universe maybe... LOL

i dont mind Z103. at least if your stranded with the radio, you know you have a chance of finding SOME sort of EDM, wether or not its what u listened to a year or + ago. and sometimes u have to wait for it for a little bit, but at least you know you'll hear SOMETHING.
my only beeef is (and someone quoted it earlyer)
the hosts. the hosts are so fuckin retarded. get a life and stop talkin like your god all mighty. not to mention when they interview people they're totally ignorant. GTFO the radio you tard baglers. they need an EDM hour hosted by someone with some backround knowledge who can devote certain days of the week to certain types of EDM.
imo.

Posted by Jayx1 on Sep-22-2006 16:47:

I dont have any problems with radio playing GOOD music.

And no more conversations is a good song.

But my problem is when a station like 103 takes it upon themselves to call it a new song when its already a year and a half old. It wouldnt even be so bad if it were charting elsewhere at the same time. But it seems like 103 arbitrarily issues its own stamp of "newness" anytime it feels like it. Maybe Danny D went to europe last summer and heard it? i dunno...

I have to commend 103 though for playing a lot more dance music lately. However id like to see them actually start playing it when its released, not when they feel like it.

I also heard a rumour that Flow 93.5 was slowly changing formats and playing more dance to compete with 103. If thats the case then it's good times ahead for Toronto.

One of the main reasons why toronto had such a strong underground dance movement in the 90s was because it was spearheaded by such a strong commercial dance radio presence. There is no denying what Dance/Energy 108 did for the dance music community in the early to mid 90s.

Lets hope these days are upon us once again

I think the problem is.....all these tracks are tracks we have heard in the club for months on end and then finally Z103.5 plays the tracks by then we have moved onto new tracks.

Almost every one of those tracks listed at the beginning have been played to death in the clubs already.

...and lots more...of course there's lots of cheese mixed with all of this, but I was impressed lol...at least for the first 30 minutes, cause the last 30 are all hip hop crap

all the tracks u mentioned above ARE CHEESE

edit: oops

I forget what song they played yesterday as their "dance" song on the 4oclock 4play...but I remember it being an awesome song and I cranked up the music..

In my opinion....the definition of cheese is "when a track/song becomes a commercial success and is overplayed on the radio".

Whether I like the track or not doesn't matter....once it has been played over and over again on the radio it becomes cheese. You can only put so many holes in swiss.

Posted by Johnny Bounce on Sep-22-2006 18:22:

You guys are all correct. Really cheese is an opinion of each individual person. Some think its cheese, others think its awsome.
EDM people have more knowlege of music, therefore making z103 tracks cheese. People who don't know or care of EDM will listen and love it regardless of how many times its played. Over and over and over.

We pride ouselves on playing music before it hits the clubs.
z103 prides themselves on airing tracks after they hit the clubs and attract the widest audience. Then playing it till its death.

We find it, they play it

This is not miami was on my hitlist even before miami this year. And z103 aired it just now.
If I had a suggestion for them they shouldn't say, NEW or HOT OFF THE PRESS or just released as it makes them look a little outdated. Why listen if you dont always hear the freshest music ?

They are daytime and we are overnights, the market is a big world of a difference. EDM is coming back and i'm personally making sure it comes back even bigger than in the 90s

Have a great weekend.

Yeah my only critisism is that they call old tracks new...

Why not just play them when they actually are new?

Stations such as 246, energy 105 and some college radio shows definately fill the void when it comes to this issue thats for sure. Problem is that most people listen during the day and get their direction from the more commercial stations. And if they are mis-informing people its not a good thing.

Because the "underground" doesn't "butcher" songs. Sorry but I doubt respectable DJ's like Mark Farina, Lee Burridge, Demi, Danny T, or anyone else like that plays the same songs every set for god knows how long. Butchering means overplaying it. Whether it's z103, the Edge, or even some club; there's only so many times you can play a certain song.

Posted by geroin on Sep-22-2006 19:35:

i'd say how about z103 sticks to their lousy shitty outdated euro and hiphop. If you're playing outdated songs and claiming they are new then don't play them at all. Watch the amount of gino bambino's when sander will be here at TIL jumping around in the circle screaming HEY HEY HEY HEY!!

I know for a fact that Deep Dish management called Z and told them to remove Stevie Nicks "Dreams"

i hate z103, the only thinbg it will do to great tunes is play it out, the next thing u know, ginos are gonna be totas, hey paulo did u hear the new corsten song, i was at pollazzo and it was pumping!!

KILL DANNY D

Posted by magikb on Sep-22-2006 22:54:

I never listen to the radio usually ever, but I need to put some new and different cd's in my car so today I was listening to it. I normally will listen to a rock station or the Edge, but as I was flipping through channels I passed z103 who were playing some kind of Bob Sinclair remix of Hold On.
I don't mind once in a while, but if I listened that that station every day I think I would have to kill myself.. lol.
Anyhow, to each their own. Someone is obviously listening to them out there

At least you have a radio station that plays some HALF decent stuff...even it is over played. I'd still rather hear overplayed tunes than shania twain, alanis morisette and endless amounts of rap.

Posted by sticky_shoes on Sep-23-2006 19:59:

I don't mind listening to Z103.5 sometimes (or other top 40 station for that matter) it has to some degree "variety"...

And if I happen to listen to a song that's overplayed...I just switch it to another station...or switch it to CD...

When I have enough money...I should get one of those transmitters...oh well
