I'm sorry, but I can't see why a 12 minute track wouldn't fit on a vinyl...

When I was about 8 years old vinyls were still pretty much the shit, and I had a few of them, which contained 4 or 5 tracks per side. So I can't see why a 12 minute track wouldn't fit.

Of course I'm not the authority on vinyl, so I don't know if I'm missing something

i am trying to releas my first ever electronic dance music track. - yoo hoo!

i am not a DJ and am unexperienced in many many matters with regards to what is needed.

i have a RADIO EDIT (3.30)

and now working on CLUB MIXES.

Have you been in the scene long?
Does the song like...not suck?

one of my club mixes seems to be going on and on and will likely be 12 minutes long.

is that too LONG??

If it isnt boring, no

quote:

I AM ALSO thinking of releasing the 12 minute CLUB MIX - JUST in a shorter version as well - say 8 minutes.

can a 12 minute piece fit on one side of a 45 R.PRM VYNIL record[/QUOTE]
yes
quote:

CAN a 12 minute piece only be released on CD.

vinyl and cd

quote:

do DJs not like 12 minute pieces incase they think its too long

depends on the dj, but the original-original of
Pryda - Aftermath was 14 minutes long and that got a few plays before the shorter 10 minute version was released

So is the radio edit, your song? or do you have a radio edit that you're thinking of remixing?

There are no set rules, but a club mix/version can be around 4-15 minutes
6-12 for trance, 4-8 for techno (unless when you say 'techno', you dont actually mean techno). Generally speaking

Got a sample of your song?
You sound like you're 15 years old

There's no such thing as too long.

It can, but it will be a really shitty quality....waaaay too much compression. It will be beyond listenable.

I recommend: Don't do it. 7" 45s are only for radio singles...ie: tracks 3-5 minutes in length.

This is not a music production issue, this is an audio engineering issue and shouldn't be any concern of yours, the producer. If you don't intend to press your music to wax, then the size of your music doesn't have any constraints.

Sure. There's no reason why it can't. Singles are released on CD all the time, though they are usually supplemented with remixes and reworks to give more added value for the purchase.

No. I told you this before, why don't you ever pay attention to me...it would save you tons of grief from asking the same stupid questions like an idiot.

The rule of thumb is: ALWAYS GIVE THE DJ MORE THAN HE NEEDS.

You're not giving him songs, you're giving him parts of songs (theoretically) that he will combine with other parts of songs to make a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

There is no set length to the music you release, but the more music you can give him to work with, the better things are for him.

Remember: You don't get to decide what DJs do with your music. They do.

This guy is quite obviously either a troll, or an absolute utter fucking spastic. In either case, he is a fat piece of worthless shit.

THANKS ISHKUR for the advice.

i actually meant a 12 inch vynil at 45 RPM.

IS THAT POSSIBLE

ALSO THANKS Nsonic for your answers. they are a real help.

with regards to members here questioning my musical skills, i am okay at classical and world but cant seem to get this ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC easily. i dont have natural groove so everything is done analytically.
because of my classical background i cant sense how loud the drumming parts should be in comparison to the melodic parts, i tend to naturally have them much quieter than other recordings. and when i do raise the drumming volume it feels wierd for me to listen to it.
even though everyone who hears it says it should be louder.
GO FIGURE.

i have been working on this for 12 years, but at the same time have been experimenting with a new beat.
by the way ISHKUR your website electronic music history has been instrumental in me beginning to have a bit of an understanding of all this - greatly appreciated A I guess heaps of people on the globe have as well.

You can compress 23 minutes of music on one side of a 12" vynil without there being any noticeable difference or loss in quality.

Beyond that, things get a bit dodgy.

First of all PMSL @ DJ Mikey Mike Response.

Second of all, 12 years?!?!? WTF working for 12 years on the same tune?

thats 15 seconds of the tune every year to get a radio edit :P

Posted by Dojomaster26 on Sep-30-2006 03:35:

That better be a damn good tune, like "To Be In Love 2006" or something...

Really, make the songs the way YOU want to make them, then let the engineers and other people on the label worry about the technical details. Whatever they do, I guarantee that they will not (intentionally) make your song sound like crap on vinyl...

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-30-2006 13:44:

Don't be silly, obviously he doesn't mean he's worked on that particular thing for 12 years.

Posted by Subtle on Sep-30-2006 14:16:

making long tracks, makes you look cool.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-30-2006 14:48:

There's no way in hell this track will be any good, because so far he's asked countless questions which any knowledge of the genre will answer instantly. As I've told him- if he's so fucking interested in the conventions, he should just go and listen to lots of music and hear them himself.

Posted by Belgian Bonzai on Sep-30-2006 23:51:

The longer, the better imo; it's easier to edit than to extend. However, should you like only introduce a new instrument every say 32 beats, that may well qualify as boring. But it's been done, interesting long tracks; Endre - Starport Indra comes to mind (I think that was 13m+). I hate it when the climax breaks down too soon.
