nahhhh...although I did enjoy a number of tracks, for the most part I found Marcus's set to be a bunch of boring generic trance. I guess thats trance for you and I should've expected it. I probably would've enjoyed the set a few years back though

Agreed.

Honestly this night was amazing, in every sense. Markus, believe it or not, I'd never rlly paid much attn to and wowwww did he ever kill it. i'll def agree that i have not heard such a good trance dj in a while! infected had me moving and smiling from ear to ear the whole time! i just couldn't stop... was so happy to see them for the first time as i just turned 19 in july. by the time rank1 came on i was thinking i had no energy but Piet was throwing down everything i needed to hear... the man can most def read a crowd! the crew was amazing... as dannie said =) absolutely awesome night, thanks to everyone. jay and alex were missed on the dancefloor =( but there were def others to keep my energy going!
the end!

oh and tons of tunes that brought back old memories... was very nice =)

Hey no prob! But save your thanks for E2IKIEL, he gave me the passes I was just a middle man. Glad I could help though!

I officially feel like I got beat up and dragged across the Koolhaus floor while everyone danced on top of my corpse.

Great fuckin night!

i never leave untill the dj leaves....he played some classics at the end (rank1)....such as

motorcycle - as the rush comes(gab and dresden mix)
3 drives - greece 2000
kyau vs albert - Walk Down (KvA club mix)----HOLY SHIT...UN-EXPECTED

Markus Shultz was fucking amazing...especially when he dropped

tocadisco - music loud
Dogzilla - without you

i diddnt stay for IM set...but when i came back at the end i was actually quite enjoying the sound they produced so...good stuff

rank 1 is nice to his fans....alot of people handing stuff for him to sign but he still cant really understand that much english....i guess people dont understand that still....i dunno how many times i yelled [email protected] but it never got played...they shut him down even though he still tried to stay on as long as he could....eventually some big security guy came on the stage and told everyone to get out when piet was sitting there looked like he was a about to get arrested with a sad but funny face lol

anyways that it for now till more stuff comes back to me

Posted by FunkyCrew on Oct-01-2006 17:22:

k, review time!

arrived around 11 with 2famous4u, got in fairly quickly... walked around the complex a bit, KH was fairly empty and hardly anyone was dancing

biggest surprise of the night - Dima! wtf, jokes are becoming your second nature ( )

Nathan was pretty good, although I def liked his set better at State Theater, Life's A Beach party (also was nice meeting him, awesome and friendly guy)

I believe Markus came on a little bit late, but oh boy!! he has not let me know last night as always, amazing track selection, the vibe was just unbelievable! tunes of the night for - Helsinki Scorchin', Your Loving Arms, Without you (), I actually had a more than a live performance of this one
I took like 50 pics of just Markus alone

was it just me, or was Rank 1 playing way heavier stuff than usual? His set at US10 was definitely a bit different.. although I was dead tired by the time he started, Piet def dropped some amazing classics

IM were def NOT my cup a tea

as always great TA turn out, as I told Dave, all the TA's who I love and cherish came last night Mikey (<3), Cam, Sam (my dance partner!), Kat (thank you for the ride and the pass sweetie!), Mada and Kelly!! I love you, ladies, Rob and Dan (Rob thanks for an offer of help, I found myself a ride earlier), SunnyBunny (every party needs a bit of a Sunshine), Pavel, Sean, Brant, Del and his lovely Lady, Dannie & Drew and probably a dozen others I didn't grab to take a quick shot you made my night hundred times more enjoiable!

i had a blast, left around 6ish but was still going.
markus was good, not great. i thought he was a little slow at times.
infected mushroom isn't my style but they did rock, some good beats at times.
rank 1 was amazing!!! first 2 songs or so were kinda slow but it picked up and got me going crazy. too bad i couldn't stay and see more of him.

can't wait for 10years.

met funkycrew and saw a few other TA's, looked like you guys were all having a blast.

see ya all next weekend.

Got there to catch the last half hour of markus schultz, which is who i wanted to see most. I wish i got there earlier He was playing some killer tunes. I cant beleive i missed 'your loving arms'...i remember how insane is was when he dropped it a G2 canada day. oh well.

Infected Mushroom??? total cheese fest...I used to like there older psy-trance style. Those s#!ty lyrics and guitar tracks ALL SOUND THE SAME. Left the kool hause to check out Mark Oliver in the guv. Wasnt into his set .

Nathan Barato in the galley killed it while i waited for rank 1. Got bak to KH just before 4 to see IM playing what sounded like the same song when i left earlier. boooo

Piet knows how to build a set. Regardless of Who played before him he got me in the mood once again. Played some killer tunes, and threw in some classics as well. Great time. I am never dissapoined with Piet's sets.

RANK 1 4 LIFE!!!!

no shout outs cause i dont know TA,s...yet, maybe at guv 10 year next week

see ya there

oh ... and it was!!!!... FUCKEN PHENOMENALLLLLLLLL!!...
i couldnt stop moving.. just couldnt... and thats all Im gonna say bc really words cannot fkn describe my feelings during Markus.. all i can say is WOW... he just floored me... end of story... my heart beat stopped.. bc.. i'd died and gone to heaven... lmao..hahaha

so for my review... ended up picking up funkycrew we got there at a great time... barely waited in line... i had my passes which was awesome.. thanks to joe... went to support nathan ...saw him do his thing... he was fkn great as always... never ever dissapoints.. he can blow the roof off like a hurricane... and still make you wanna stay... hes just awesome.. ahha..when no one was dancing i went near the centre with funkycrew and we just started busting a move... ahaha was so much fun.. thanks 4 coming with me kris.. u rock...

honestly was great to see familiar faces out... i had to leave early which sucked oh well... i went by gallery to check out val and he was doin a sick sick job... good on you my vinyljunkie friend.. :P...

after that I took a trip to the drink to see joe & fab on the decks.. was good to see fab stirring up a storm...

So...I didnt wanna stay in the main room.. but I went to see some friends.. and mark oliver suprisingly was doing a good job when I was in there at the beginning.. and when I was walkin out... so good on him...

Laslty...before I left went to say hi to my friend George Williams in the Acid Lounge who was doing a fkn-fantastic job.. id like to mention no one ever mentions his name.. but I think this guy deserves alot of credit.. hes in this room every saturday night doing his thing... and seriously is really damn good...so that topped off my night when I left...

overall.. in the words of sean cassidy.. it was a "wikked wikked" night... didnt get to stay long but i was 110% satisfied.. lmao.. so thank you guv.. for an awesome ultraspin 11!!! ...

Posted by dj_souvlaki on Oct-01-2006 18:12:

absolutley fucking phenominal. markus shulz spun one of the best sets i have ever heard. just amazing. bomb after fucking bomb. i went mental when i heard above and beyond air for life. just amazing. i was speechless. my legs hurt. my back hurts. but if he came back again today i would be on the dance floor shaking my ass again.

i wish they kicked off infected and kept him on for another 2 hours. he was soooo good.

infected mushroom sucked. hands down worst group i have heard. always brings out a shitty crowed.

and i dont know what dj it was but he played daft punk in the gallery. again i wentmental.

Posted by legendary_waz on Oct-01-2006 18:14:

Gonna keep this one short...

Made it in around 1AM to a crazy Schulz set that was just banging and got better as the set progressed. Schulz spun just as I expected.

Infected Mushroom definetly has the Kool Haus moving, but psy trance is definetly not my thing, even though they have the hard pounding tunage that I enjoy.

Finally, stayed for the first two songs of Piets set. I heard from a few that he played a great set, but I personally didnt like the way he started off...well I just thought that was def not his style...it was def harder.

The night was a brief one, but I didnt expect much seeing that I just wanted to get out and well...dance...

Posted by Vogon on Oct-01-2006 18:32:

Mark Oliver's Opening set was just what I needed to get pumped up for Markus Schulz.

Markus Schulz - Great set. I really enjoy it when Markus is on decks spinning great tunes.
I was surprised to see Charles Khabouth and several other management on stage taking stock of Markus and the crowd

Here are some of the tracks Murkus played as part of his so enjoyable set.
Dogzilla - Without You
Alex M.O.R.P.H. vs Rank 1 - Life Less Ordinary
Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms (Markus Schulz vs Elevation intro mix) - Tune of the night, have been waiting since June to hear this one.
Aalto - 5
Above & Beyond with Andy Moor - Air for Life

Infected Mushroom were very lively and quick paced in their set. I was just waiting for Rank1 to hit the decks.

Rank1
Piet was as good as I had expected. Great closing set for the night.
Plenty of space to dance, comfortable temperature, and great tunes to damce to.
Opening with Age Of Love was just fantastic after IM.
Other tracks of note:
Armin van Buuren - Shivers
Rank 1 - TopGear
Rank1- Airwave
Cygnus X - Superstring
Motorcycle- As the Rush comes
Gabriel & Dresden feat. Molly - Tracking Treasure Down
Armin van Buuren - Controlfreak

Overall I had a great night. Markus is one of my favorite DJs to see live.

Posted by samhouse on Oct-01-2006 18:54:

Walk Down tune of the night imo...

sick

Posted by Engine9 on Oct-01-2006 19:08:

Shulz didnt disappoint, exactly what i expected from him. Pumping and true trance. I am going to see Shultz everytime he comes to Toronto!

First time seeing Infected, they were pretty cool still. ALtho i dont htink the buddy on the guitar was playing anything. I liked 85% of their set, sometimes the builds were too much but something refreshing none the less.

Rank1: Age of Love W000T, that was a sick opener. Airwave is always great =) a couple more sick tracks that made me not want to leave.

Posted by smuncky on Oct-01-2006 19:16:

im not at all suprised that markus' set was awesome. everytime ive seen him its always a choonfest

Posted by Sean Cassidy on Oct-01-2006 20:04:

WIKKID WIKKID EVENING

Barato opened and played well - more proggy and techno wizardry.....this DJ can be diverse and I love it when he plays different styles

Marcus played well - Loving Arms got played (G2 REPEAT) but so good because we have never heard it hammered weekly here in Toronto (unless in our own homes) and you know in Europe is was played a plenty - plus a defining track/benchmark of the summer for me personally. Dogzilla....to be said again - Awesome memories for this track and the fact that is seems to have made a comeback (played by Armin/Ferry/Marcus....and others?? is great. Lisa Loo where were you.

Infected Mushroom - 3rd time opening with City of the Future and sounded like the same set from the last 2 times they have spun here - love the energy put forth but to samey same for me and the rock sounds are overutilzed - I love psytrance but this is not psytrance - it is commercial rock trance with a bit of sillyness - good music to kick your pills in but I never last more than hour listening to them - this time they played for that hour and I stayed for only 30 mins.....maybe I missed some good tracks...I will await other peoples reviews to temper if I did miss or make the right choice to change rooms.

Mark Oliver in Guv - played awesome - house electro remixed pop tracks tribal and high octane house.....

Guv Patio - awesome conversations with random people - different vibe - less sketchy and freak festy - thank god there was weed readily available for once on the patio (haha everyone asking for papers and 3 people whipping them all out at the same time......funny quip of the morning a random enquiring "do you have papers??" and I responded "no but if I had papers I would have weed and if I had weed ---- we'ed be happy" - pure poetry in the context and environment - I crack myself up sometimes

No Drink for me tonight (never made it up there - kinda pissed about it actually) but I heard Addy killed it in the Drink musically again.......Habibiiiiii....trademark Indian/Arabic vocal snippet/signature trademark - love it!!

Rank 1 - HOLY MOTHER FUKKER TRANCE CHOONAGE - Soooo hard and techy and trippy - classics thrown in between - Airwave - As the Rush Comes - Greece 2000 - Awakening......(come on people help me out here.....) honestly had more fun listening to this set than out of anything I have this year - make fun and judge me for it but for me personally I loved every moment of his set......when I listen to DJ's I never dismiess them as shit - you will never really hear that from me - NO ONE IS PERFECT and TO BRING IT 100% every time is too high a standard to maintain - no one is 100% everytime in any situation....(unrealistic).....a DJ should have expression and push boundaries - delve into unknown areas when possible - a DJ plays to the crowd (it is his job afterall) but if I don't feel educated from a DJ's set when he/she plays a set here in Toronto (especially an international) - than I feel jipped......dancefloor education is a very important aspect of the "DJ culture/Mystic and Allure" in my opinion - again I have said this many times - a set should contain 50% new tracks - 25% top 40 right now and 25% classics......which Piet did marvelously - he BROUGHT IT UP BROUGHT IT UP - belted out a classic - plateaued - than took it higher... higher... higher... than belted out another Emotional Anthem/Classic either original charting remix or updated - then again took it higher and higher again.....

I literally had my eyes closed and internalized the sounds.....and I was transported to a massive rave/warehouse party in my minds eye - I became the music - moved to the music - became a musical instrument basically.......no word of a lie - because of my ability to sense/anticipate tonal changes and notations in EDM - I was perfectly conducting the beats.....perfect room to dance - the teasing of the tracks - track transitioning - connecting with the DJ - glances - the WIKKID WIKKID mantra - smiles and pumping hard chugging beats.....

IN OTHER WORDS THE BEST SET I HAVE HEARD THIS YEAR........because of a combination of all the right elements at the right time (i.e. friends...NADA WHERE WERE YOU?????? He Played SHIVERS....FTW!!! and it sounded soooooo good.....i screamed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NADA WIKKID WIKKID!!where are you???? fucking song.....oh yeah! WHAT WHAT.....dance that shit - PLAY THAT SHIT - mix that shit....HOW CAN IT END THIS WAY (WHERE MY NADA AT??) DONT LEAVE ME LOVE ME jesus Nada where are you???...DANCE DANCE DANCE all the while smiling and feeling good about thinking of you presence beside me...Nada if you were there - I was so ready to tear it up with you so I had to dance for the both of us...I did us proud bitch...MUAH!!

Set ended at 6:30 we were left wanting more - bouncers told us to get out...BOO....and Piet came down and talk to everyone - reminded me very much of Christopher Lawrence from a previous Ultraspin event.....sorry Jamie he did not play that Breathing (breaks mix) I am sure he very well might have as he did an awesome job of playing peoples requests and making people feel special by the fact that he played THEIR song....I still think that song requests should be accepted/pondered for play by the DJ in certain circumstances and Piet is one to be interactive with his dancefloor (an awesome quality in a DJ) and a probable reason why we enjoy his appearances here.

I introduced myself to Piet and gave kudos...then went into the main room - brought the WIKKID WIKKID - listened to good house music whilst conversing with good friends on the patio (now satieted musically) and relished the lingering moments of the evening/morning knowing too soon it would be over.....

After partying currently at the moment with Brant and my lovely roomie Trance@Vixen and friends in our new place....in the span of writing this review (2 hours and 27 minutes) - conversations had were nothing but quality and positive affirmations of understandings and respect and what true friends do for each other.

I hope everyone who left this party had a good feeling in general - because honestly - if you dont let the VIBE FUKKERS fuck with your vibe and the beats are good and you create your right head space - you would have had the same experience as I and many people that were there as well......the vibe tonight was different - (loved the lighting and look of the Kool Haus tonight!!) much younger clubgoers - who were up for it and brought it.... and lot of house heads WHIPPING THE TRANCE OUT OF THEIR PANTS!....I loved it - Piet played trance and the normal poo-poo on trance naysayers lost it on the floor..FUCKING WIKKID!

So ya that's about it.....

beyond 10 out of 10

above and beyond it

Thank you to everyone that benefitted from the free passes we had available as promoters - the "TRANCE ADDICTed" crowd was well represented thank you for making my night a success on so many levels.

I did see a huge amount of passes randomly discarded in the club...which made my heart sink.....but none of them had COURTESY OF SEAN CASSIDY - which made me happy ....because that waste of passes made for someone else to pay 15/20 dollars at the door - the least you can do is be honest - will you use them?? if not then please give it to somebody that can....these Ultraspin events are a way to GIVE BACK to regulars and when those "favour" passes that people wastefully and selfishly succeeded in negating their usefulness happened it makes me upset because I could have been given the to be handed out by me for use by guaranteed entry people (my loyal guestlist base) to ensure that the RIGHT people gain entry to the events I promote for.

Guestlist is a PRIVELIDGE and a GIFT - I might as well be putting 15/20 dollars in your pocket - so thank you everyone that made a point thanking me and telling me about the awesome time you had - that is exactly what I love to here - that I made it possible for you to attend and enjoy the music with me.....which is why I thank you for coming out last night and hope to see everyone at GUV 10 YEAR next weekend....a milestone in Toronto clubbing History has been reached - let's celebrate it!

this was my first event EVER and i had such an amazing time. Gota agree that Markus nailed it and a half. Air for Life was sooo amazing live. IM ,although uber cheese i agree, still had the whole place (including me) with hands in the air so you know the did something right. Only stayed for a bit of Rank 1's set, he played siiick music thouhg. Age of Love / Plus Life Less Ordinary, always good. And the track i was waiting for the whole night...E-Craig - Home(vocal mix, i think)....sounds so amazing loud. Helsinki Scorchin deserves honourable mention also, love the build up.

PS. Wish i had some ladies to dance with and not just with my two buddies, lol.

I LOVE Markus Schulz!! I wanna marry him and bear his children....and I'm not even gay! That's how much I love him. He never disappoints me.

I loved IM's set........THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT......THREE YEARS AGO!!! For fuck's sake guys....if you don't have anything new - stop fukin' touring! Jeesus wept. Seriously...if this had been my first time seeing them, I would have absolutely loved them. Unfortunately, this was about the fifth time I've seen them and I just could not get excited about the same old shit.

Rank 1 started off a little slow. Of course, almost anything would seem slow after IM's 290 bpm shit. He got into his groove eventually...right about the time my last E kicked in....coincidence? Who knows?

ya great night.

markus was going at it!! his set was great but there were a few songs that i wanted to hear and they were never dropped... why would he not drop david west - make you mine?? i think it would've been appropriate. and "year zero" as well

IM sounded different than in the past. it was kinda weird

Rank1 was flying!!! just what i expected! he was really nice throughout the set signing autographs and chilled with the crowd at the end.

big shoutout to everyone!! good crowd!!! great to see everyone woooot
OH!! and a shoutout to the "bayern munich team" (you know who you are). i should've worn my jersey as well.

i always bring my lil notebook to write down tracks (LOL) but i'm kinda not up to date in the traceworld so i couldn't really id many but i'm pretty sure i heard:

4strings - into the night (purple haze remix)

and that song that is probably a remix of Rui da silva - touch me .... i think it's called "hump me in the morning" (kinda wacked title but i think that's it)

also, the last song piet dropped was incredible... i never heard it before and as usual i was running around asking ppl if they could id it (LOL). nobody knew, so i asked piet at the end and he said it is by airbase (some song from the afterglow label)

didn't he play awakenings??
