hit and miss for me. He would never be the reason I went to a club.
if he didnt leave the bass off for 5 minutes at a time he would be a lot better...cant say im a fan
His skill has come alond way from before...I have no problems with him at all...Personally I think he is one of Toronto's best house dj's.
Anyone at Mark Farina - System a couple years ago when Addy opened?
Other than that, he's held is own and deserves credit. When you play every night you're bound to be off once a while.
the reason why i have respect for him is that he doesnt play your regular electro house that every dj has played in this city
he has his own style, his own mixing technique and he does have a good ear
Not that any other local dj is worse than him but i personally like his style more than other djs even though other locals are great too.
Addy does have those times where he doesn't do it for me but other times i go mental, i could be extremely exausted walking into the gallery with my jacket on to leave the club and then i stop and then 5min later take off my jacket and start going nuts to his set.

and he did..
IMO, we have WAY better local talent than Addy, but not to take anything away from him.
I know its a matter of personal opinion, which makes threads like this kind of pointless. One mans trash is another mans gold. We cant all agree on whos good and whos not. Too many vairables.
If you want MY opinon, Addy is just ok. My feelings are medium so to speak for him.
Who do I like you ask? IMO, Miss Blu, and Simon jain are amoung the best local DJ's Ive seen in a LONG fucking time based on technical skill, track selection, and the way they can take you on a journy through the night. When you combine all three of these catigories, and even if all three arent a high score individually, when brought together with a high average, that makes them top notch in my books.
my 2 cents
Habibi is WIKKID WIKKID
and based on the hundreds of sets played over his career (I am sure very few/select few people have even heard even 10% of them)
and bashing/trashing based on that ten percent is hardly fair nor lends credibility upon the person doing/talking the bashing/trashing
a review on the other hand is one set from a specific party (and that description of how it affected/related to you - for you that is real - true story)
this thread is too general for some of these statements made .....a shit show thread of controversy and bitterness can only become of these types of threads when people lose focus of the larger picture these DJ's try to envision or portray - growing pains and all
and this goes for any other DJ out there marking their territories - locally or globally
always so negative.....
Not WIKKID WIKKID

I go back to my analogy about making a movie...
When you use a camera to film something you have certain tools available to you, ie. zooming in and out, focusing, lighting changes, etc.
These things need to be used effectively otherwise the result will be jarring.
Think of someones home videos that you watch. When they are constantly moving around, zooming in and out to show the new christmas present you got, it can almost make you motion sick...
...then think of a professional movie. Sure there are zooms, cuts, and camera tricks done, sometimes even things done that are jarring, but they are used in a way that almost make you forget that you are watching a movie and not experiencing it yourself.
Here's my comparison. Addy is very good technically. But he is like a person making a home video who has all these new tools to play with. He's using the mixer to show you how good he is at using the mixer and has forgotten that it is more effective to use his tools in a way that blends all of his skills into an awesome sounding final product that has the person UNAWARE that the tricks are even being done(think digweed), instead of making you motion sick.

I'm not sure if I really agree with the analogy but interesting none the less...

I gotta agree with Shanny here. Very well said.
