yeah, saw a couple weeks ago. you're most likely right... if they weren't adding parking... it would only make the parking situation on Vine Street worst. LOL

Posted by Cool1g on Oct-08-2006 23:45:

that lot next to Avalon may just end up being a parking garage...

Sam Nazarian who owns Privilge, Area, Hyde, the Lobby, 50% of the Abbey, etc., has been planning to open up a big club on Hollywood Blvd near Ivar. The City of LA told him he needs additional parking so he was buying a lot on Vine to convert into a parking garage to be used for valet to his club...i thought that is what is going on next to Avalon.

now this was a good 6 months ago when i was told this and I know Sam was getting tired with the delay with his project approvals and has thought about walking away from the deal....

on a slightly related topic does anyone know if Crobar is still supposedly going into the Fox Theater on Hollywood? i have not seen any work on that venue at all...

I dont think the Avalon crowd is ever gonna change, i think its just gonna get worse....if only the walls in Avalon could talk....damn Ive personally been partying there for 3 years, and the change in crowd in the past 3 years has been immmmense....I think Vanguard is gonna be the new washer-central pretty soon...as soon as the head E-tard snaps out of his roll and realizes that Vanguard is being promoted by Giant now and no Avalon anymore.....lol......and has soon as the head Maytag realizes, all the little GE's and Kenmore's will follow him...

anybody wanna take a guess at who the head MAYTAG is...?

Anyway, personally, I don't understand what everyone's problem with Avalon is. I've never had any issues with security at Avalon, and I have a feeling that people that do have issues are bringing it on themselves. Same with the line, never had any problems. i understand how these can be nonissues for you if you're a regular there, you're accustomed to the process and you know your way around the velvet rope, but from an outsider's perspective--say an out-of-towner, new-in-towner or the sporadic clubber--and probably the majority of the people who walk into the club, they have to deal with what i'm talking about. i got lucky the last few times i went with you guys where we all cut into the beginning of the line and made it in in under 30 min, but otherwise i would have had to file into the back like everyone else. and did you notice how out of hand the front of the line gets when that happens? the line for lawler was literally a clump of people up front that straightens out in to a line at the end. maybe my perspective is skewed since i only go to avalon on some of their biggest nights. i'll shut up now

I don't think there will be major Washing Machine's at Vanguard.. unless it's Tiesto/PVD night or something.

-Vanguard has tight ass security, greasing the doorguy doesn't work as much as it does at Avalon. Besides, at Avalon.. no one searches you..that's always a bonus for them.
-Vanguard ends at 4AM. That's wayyy too early for Washing machines to stop partying.

And remember, Washing Machine's actually pull a lot more weight at Avalon than you think. They may not know the promoters or even what deejays play..., but they know the CLUB OWNERS/staff. which obviously will always outrule the promoters anyday.

Washing machines don't really bother me..plastic ho's and g'd out meatheads do though.

I completely agree with you. In all honesty, I have never had a problem getting into ANY CLUB ever! Whether it's in LA, San Francisco, Miami or even Mexico. I think the major problem here is that (go ahead flame me for this) TA's ARE WAY TOO PICKY AND SPOILED!!!! Being like that takes away from the fun. Sometimes you just have to accept things for what they are and just have fun.

If you guys ever went to the old PALACE (Avalon now), you guys would HATE IT! You guys bitch about the sound system left and right and become a bit too materialistic. Many of you have told me that you guys love the system at MAYAN. But I bet you guys that you didn't know that Mayan's system is actually a PEAVEY System that's VERY VERY VERY OLD.

Luckily for Avalon and most clubs, TA's are only a very small percentage of their cliental. If not, imagine, they would go broke! Most people that go out aren't as picky as most of us here are and they seem to enjoy themselves.

Running a club is no easy business, promoting it is even harder. Learn to appreciate things for what they are.

At the end, if you don't like Avalon, then just don't go. It's as simple as that. I'm sure Avalon won't miss you.

Posted by blitz6speed on Oct-11-2006 18:39:

Beleive you me.. Avalon misses me and my people.

Sigh.

Im not even psyched about Giant this year since the last time i saw armin at spundae was SUCH an aweful show that was saved bigtime by ATB. I hope theres more then Ferry there to make it happen.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Oct-11-2006 19:02:

jesse i couldnt agree more. the things i complain about are specifically the coke/meth heads. the sound seemed fine to me and washers, although they are annoying i get over it real quick, i still try to have fun. i have yet to NOT have fun. i guess only 1yr edm clubbing isnt long enough to not have fun.

Posted by DjWoody on Oct-11-2006 19:05:

I hear you on that one. There's too many drugs in this scene. And honestly, that saddens me. It saddens me to think that for many people to be able to enjoy any form of EDM they have to be on drugs. That's sad.

Posted by R!CH on Oct-11-2006 19:06:

yeah i guess i am spoiled, i usually get into clubs in under 5 minutes without having to grease any bouncer and it wasn't until avalon that i've ever seen rampant open drug use throughout the club in any direction or been threatened by a 250-pound crackhead for trying to walk around his breakdancing section

yeah. my buddy loves the music but hes so shy he cant let loose without drinking or candy. i dont need to drink to have fun but i do it cause i normally enjoy myself even more and im a bit more relaxed.

If you have to bribe a bouncer to get in, than that's your own fault. Either you showed up late and the club was sold out, or you are the type of person that can easily be taken advantage of.

Yeah, I'm the other way around. When I drink, I don't tend to enjoy the music. From that moment on, the rest of the night becomes a socializing event. Perfect example Saturday... I didn't enjoy Mauro, instead I socilized the entire night.

lol i've never paid a bouncer a dime in my life. i think that was my point. anyway around here there's no such thing as showing up late if you have will call. you print out your ticket at home, walk up to ruby skye at any hour, hand the paper to the bouncer up front and continue walking in. average wait is about 10 seconds if another group happens to be walking up ahead of you. there is no line, it's like walking into a movie theater with your ticket in hand, which is the way it SHOULD be if you aren't searching people. if anyone can justify the waiting and slow moving lines at avalon, i'd be really curious to know what the issue is cause i HATE lines. especially pointless lines. i think the line is intentional though, which is even worse.

the washers, some people aren't bothered by them, but i tend to be annoyed when some chic next to me is whipping her hair in my mouth and face, or when some guy is pushing on me and elbowing my kidnies over and over causing drink spillage all over my clothes and shoes. or even just having to look at their vacant, zombielike expressions. i guess you can excuse all this is being picky and spoiled, but i only go out to the club to have a completely positive experience, which i get pretty much always without having to make excuses for other people.

the reason all the meatheads and crackheads gather at avalon is because they're allowed to do whatever the fuck the want inside. this deteriorates the experience for everyone else. i understand the avalon regulars are jaded and pretty much accustomed to this kind of stuff so you think i'm just bitching for the sake of bitching, but to me there is nothing premiere about the avalon experience. they have an excellent club set up and some excellent bookings, but no vibe. seems like everyone just files in and sticks to their own groups inside.

finally i don't know how avalon selects their openers and closers, but i've never been so shocked by such dreadful dj'ing in any club i've ever been to. yeah most people in avalon can't tell john digweed from mark taberner, but that's because they are so tweeked out of their minds you could be playing broadway music and they'd be acting the same. does that excuse avalon from being the only club i've been to with shitty openers and closers? i emphasize: the ONLY club.

bottom line is avalon is a club with plenty of lost potential and this comes from poor management, poor policy and just a lack of concern or pride. they are able to get away with this because they can get regular business on their name and location alone. all they have to do is book popular djs and it's nearly impossible to fail. this doesn't mean i won't one day go back, but if i do it won't be for the club, it'll be because they have some monster line up that i haven't seen before.

Posted by R!CH on Oct-11-2006 19:58:

i will say this though... steve lawler was the one night i had at avalon that was a complete success. good music all night long and a good crowd that actually smiled and danced and no incidents of having to defend my own floor space.

The whole line situation is to make Avalon look like its "poppin'" Why should I have to wait if I already have my ticket? TO MAKE AVALON LOOK COOL AND ATTRACT PEOPLE DRIVING BY THAT IS WHY! The crowd is getting worse and worse every time I go. Drug use is so rampant that it is labled as "normal" so therefore we should get used to it. Why are things allowed to get so out of control? I don't mind if people take a substance or smoke whatever as long as they don't bother me, but that's just the thing, as Lex said the washers whip me in the face with their hair, they elbow me in my back, they touch me with their sweaty arms, I have to smell their disgusting breath. They have no repect for themselves or the people around them.

Then we move onto the straight out crack heads. How is it that they are even allowed in? Last time I was at Avalon a true crack head with missing teeth, a sucked up face, and looking like he came out of dumpster with a stench to match was out of control. He was straight up moshing out on the floor and he started slamming into some females, then he slammed into me and I grabbed him and tossed him on the ground. He got up with closed fists but I was ready for him and took him down in a flash. Why was someone like that even allowed into Avalon? Because the security and management don't give two shits as long as they get a dollar. This guy would have been kicked out of a McDonalds for looking and smelling the way he did, but somehow he was allowed into Avalon Avalon has become a safe haven for those that want to party beyond just drinking alcohol. Does Avalon have the power to stop it? ABSOLUTELY, but do they choose to? NO! I feel unsafe when I am at Avalon, is that ok? I guess I should just settle and let the situation get worse until Avalon is forced to clean up it's act by a DEA/LAPD raid.

Oh and I hardly wait more than 10 mins to get into any club. I just smile & bat my eyes and I'm in!
