REVIEW
---------------------------
First off, I gotta give KIMIKA (Specially Jesus) props for booking JZ in Tijuana. TJ never seems to disappoint. I had a blast. The system in that venue was amazing for a rented system. The place is a restaurant, but the system was ace. The patio was amazing, it had it's own system feeding off the main stage and couches everywhere. The girls, OMFG!!! I fell in love. Literally. I had my eyes on this girl since Desyn Masiello @ Tangaloo last year and I never though I would see her again. But what do you know! She was there, and to make things better, she's my friend's girlfriend ROOMATE!!! Hahahahaha
Anyhow, we got there around 11pm and the place was going off. The warm up DJ was amazing. He was playing a lot of fresh tunes. Then, within the first 5 minutes I was there, someone asks if I was from LA. I said yes, and what do you... It's SHUNI!!!! A TA!!! I didn't even know we had TA's in Mexico! hahahaha it was awesome meeting you Shuni! Then we ran into Karla at the bar. She's a former TA too!!! Boohoo!!! I haven't seen her in years. Last time she went out with us was last July for Independence! I keep walking and BAM! I ran into DJ Coronado. He was one of the openers for Desyn. Then I see my old friend DJ Antonio Luna from Mexicali! Wow, I went there not expecting to know anyone and before you know it, I had friends there! Anyhow, I took a group picture, except I'm missing on it!
So the party is going off, and I was barely catching a buzz, when James goes on stage. He sees me, and comes up to me WHATS UP MATE!!! Oh man, that made my day! I was not expecting JZ to know me. We have never even met before. That felt awesome. Thanks JZ. Ok, so I sound like a groupie now hehehe. Julia goes backstage, and I hang out with my friends upfront and JZ begins killing it. Man.. he was on fire! I don't know what it was but I enjoyed his set a lot more than his LA sets. But it's ok, that happens with all the DJs. It was simply amazing.
Wow, when JZ dropped Inner City - Goodlife, my panties got wet! Simply WOW! That song is amazing and it has been one of my favorite since it first came out back in the early 90's. Then soon after, he dropped Depeche Mode - People Are People and the crowd goes insane! This party was pure insanity. So JZ finishes his set at 3am (when it was supposed to be over), but the crowd was so into it, he went back on and kept going til a bit past 4am! At this time, the club was still full but it was time to go home. Man, when he finished he did this wicked outro... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU... it was a robot voice, he scratched to it, and did some weird effects. He even typed THANK YOU on the laptop and raised it to the crowd! SIMPLY AMAZING.
You can tell JZ loves what he does. Well party was over, and it was time to go home. Then to our surprise, JZ asks Julia and me to have breakfast with him. WOW! That was awesome. We accept and the promoters take us to a little Fonda (hole in the wall restaurant) with some amazing home made food. We were there for well over an hour and we got a chance to hang out with TJ biggest promoters and JZ. Everyone was down to earth and very welcoming. It was a really awesome time. The promoters even told me that they were expecting us and that it was a pleasure to have us over. I think JZ had something to do with this!
hehehe
So we're there and JZ is sad cuz his audio interface broke.
He looked very worried and said that he needed to get it fixed before his next gig in Mexico City the next day. We chatted a bit, and I gotta say, he's very down to earth, very simple, not a show off, and when you hang out with him, he becomes one of us. That's awesome! He begins taking pictures, and then he turned on his laptop and took that weird picture of me with the promoter and those of Julia and him. Hahaha
I noticed JZ had a Nintendo shirt, and he had one in LA before too, so I asked him if he loved Nintendo. He starts laughing and straight out took a Gameboy out of his pocket! hahahahaha And guess what game he had on? STAR WARS!!! Hahahahahaha
It was getting really late, so we take off. We say good-bye, and Julia and I take off to the border. BIG MISTAKE! The line was ridiculous. The promoter had warned us that it was going to be at least a 3-4 hour wait to cross but we didn't believed him. Man, I wish we did. He was right.
We decided to crash in downtown, and did a little exploring the next morning. Ate some Tacos El Guero, and drove back home. The line was bad, but not 4 hours bad. It was only 1 1/2. Much better.
If you guys ever have a chance to go clubbing in TJ, you should take advantage of it. The scene there is on fire. The next big shows coming up are LEE BURRIDGE, TIESTO, and MAURO PICOTTO. Sorry, the only date I'm allowed to tell you guys is Mauro on December 7th. See ya guys there!
James & Kimika... Thanks for your hospitality, you guys are amazing!!!!
