Looks like he brought it back old style somewhat. I wish he still played that nasty dark tribal though.

He played that too. Was amazing how much he did that night with so little time. The guy was relentless.

It wasn't really directed at you but for the most part at couple of people that were arguing with me in the other Steve Lawler thread that Lawler doesn't spin Tribal any longer.

For the most part, he doesnt really. Many of his sets nowadays are much much more electro based. I guess he just decided to switch it up this time. Im sure if he played again in NYC, he might not play any tribal at all. Kinda like when I heard Sven break out hard techno at Nature One. You would never hear him play it in Ibiza or elsewhere since its not his style. Its just one of those rare things.

I have a recent set from Lawler with him playing Tribal in it as well. I just think you haven't cought the sets where he plays it.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I just think the guy is so diverse in what he plays that he probably just gets on kicks where he plays one thing more then something else but you always get a little bit of everything from him.

Like, who the hell would have expected him to play a Silence remix on Friday. I sure as hell didn't. haha

No, you argued that Lawler was a top Tribal DJ....a ridiculous assertion in the days of Julian Poker, Eric Entrena, Saeed Younan, Simon & Shaker and the likes of RPO.

Just cus Lawler throws some Tribal tunes into a set doesnt make him a Tribal DJ...thats like calling Tiesto a Techno DJ when he was spinning Umek all the time.

I wonder if you know what real Tribal sounds like.

Darkest song I have heard all year

Went to Cielo first Friday to hear Jojo FLores, some Montreal sensual house guy. Crowd was good, but the music was not dark. Went to Crobar around 3:30 with my GF and a couple of friends. Comped right in, and I could see why as soon as I came in the main room. The crows was horrible! Up front there were some people who were clearly there for Lawler, but overall talk about a shity crowd.

Around 3:15 I heard the darkest, hardest song I have heard all year. Was sick, the place went dark.

Overall a good time because of the music, only stayed until 4. My girlfriend the next day refered to the dark music as "good sex music", good gay music. I said yes, hence why Victor Caldrone is also top notch.

ANyways, happy to see a post about someone other than Armin, or PVD on this board. WOuld love to know more people into the likes of Lawler, DJ Vibe, Dave Seaman and Victor Caldrone...

Do these guys play like Lawler does? Cuz I'm really getting into this sound and would like to hear other djs who play music like it.

If that ever came to be I would be there everytime he played! Sucks I couldn't make it up for this (school on the weekends sucks!) But I still have wonderful memories of his set in Miami this past March

Glad to see everyone had a great time

Every DJ evolves his style with changing sound in music and it goes for many old school DJs like Steve Lawler, Sven Vath, Mauro Picotto, and so on and on.

Yes he use to be top Tribal DJ. I still say it. Lawler has been spinning a lot longer then the DJs you naming.

I am gonna figure out how to upload on "megaupload" and share Steve Lawler tribal set from club Twilo, NYC. This way the argued point will be set straight, because otherwise we won't get no where.

EDITED 20 MINUTES LATER, LOL:

Here is the link to "Steve Lawler Live Set @ Twilo NYC-Mar-2001"-

h++p://www.megaupload.com/?d=WA4QQP5O ( http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6814994#post6814994 )

PS. If you look at the date and know your "NYC CLUB HISTORY": it was recorded two months before Twilo closed. How cool is that for memorable sets?
My favorite song in the set is "It's gonna be a lovely day for you and me: JUST TAKE THE PILL".

Tracks of the night:

Mono - Fake In
Vanelli - Get It On
Lambert - House In Play

the best thing about this show (besides the music) was the fact that crobar kept it dark, dark, dark for lawler's set. for the 45 minutes that i was there, it seemed that he was going to throw down a dark and dirty set...too bad i had to leave.

He was at Love afterhours with Damian Lazarus back in June. Downright dirty and immoral beats. He was also amazing at the WMC for the Hallucination party at the Marlin Hotel and also pretty good opening for Sasha and Sandra Collins at the Fundacion Closing Party at Crobar in 2005. Three = SICK

I've been out to at least 5 parties this year when he's headlined. The last one, I can't really say much about because of the sulphur/sewage/stinkbomb issue that cleaned us out of Cielo early on, but he tore up at Love back in the late spring, which I believe was the same night that Sasha was there hanging out.
