I was going to get in it with you but you are not worth my time, you are not constructive, you are offensive.

I had said that this thread was borderline...it has now crossed that line.

Ciao.

Second, how is this thread borderline anything? Yeah it's annoying when people who are born into your country, claim your nationality, use your country's medical care system, etc turn around and say "Well I'm not Canadian, I'm ...". No you're not. You're not Italian, you have a Canadian passport, you take advantage of everything Canada has to offer, you/your parents are born here, YOU ARE CANADIAN.

Why do people insist on denying that fact? Should I ever become Canadian, I would say I am Canadian. I will tell my kids their background is Belgian but would make it quite clear that this is their country.

(And btw last i checked, being Jewish means you practice Judaism which is a religion. Completely different topic.)

Borderline = the entire topic is "borderline" offensive, which he has since crossed IMO.

and

Being Jewish does not AT ALL mean that you just practise Judaism...that was the point of what I was saying...and not at all a differant topic...it is all about ignorance.

The way you were talking about your friend implied that at some point her family practiced Judaism. Which would make her Jewish because they practiced it. If she no longer practices their religion, then unless she is a subject of the ancient Kingdom of Judah, she is not jewish.

And second of all, how is historical fact offensive? My ancestors were raped by Vikings, Saxons, and a whole bunch of other invaders i'm sure. You don't see me crying offense.

which one? the one about "italians" calling canadians "cakers?" or "non european?"

All i did was point out an event in history that was true.

In fact, the whole point of my thread was how i was pissed off at the racism behind those "european" comments. All i did was point out the truth of the whole affair and suddnely im the racist?

??? What racial remark? Holy shit people, calm down with the racist card. Just because he said italians are "dark" doesn't mean he's being racist

exactly...

i guess i should say they are albino? WTF?

Posted by bass drive on Oct-09-2006 23:34:

lol relax loca

jay, I was talking about this

quote:
just pull out that map where it shows italy as part of the byzantine and ottoman empire and explain to them that they are dark because the byzantines raped their ancestors.

I was just pointing out that this explanation is not accurate (for the most part)

the "racial" word was ment from an anthropological point of view. like sub "racial" divisions of Europe (Mediterranean, Nordic, Alpine...)

btw, I agree with you that what she said was very stupid

haha i know......i mean what i wrote

Posted by Jayx1 on Oct-09-2006 23:39:

aaaah well i do know that it is definately one of the explanations as to why they have darker skin. They (italians) have had many influences from africa and the middle east through successive invasions of their peninsula and subsequent invasions of their own empire into asia and africa. This is why most societies around the mediterreanean look very similar wheras europeans to the north are much lighter. Its also why northern africans are lighter skinned than their counterparts to the south.

The reason i point this out to those who claim they are "european" and that northern european are lesser european is because when talking about ancient blood lines, the exact opposite is true. And i find it to be a hilarious irony.

BTW id never ever claim in reality that an italian is any less european than a swede for example. Because we are talking about history, not present day life. But its just fun to point out this history to those who insist on insulting northern europeans with their ignorance.

Ahh makes sense. Sorry for jumping on you like that but i'm so used to people pulling the racist card that I thought you meant he was being racist because he used the word "dark". Which would not surprise me at all considering some of the posts this forum has seen (anyone remember the "italian diving" racist incident? )

Posted by Jayx1 on Oct-09-2006 23:45:

still waiting for 747's answer to the question i posed.

Posted by loca on Oct-09-2006 23:47:

He's reading up on his "majour"

Posted by 7-4-7 on Oct-10-2006 00:12:

Italians are not all dark - north vs. southern italians (light/dark)...look into that.

History is quite clear about how the southern Italians became dark.

I never used the term racist.

I am not Italian, my father is. I just happen to be interested in my fathers culture it interests me.

more than just the Byzantines came through Italy, and their affects are clear to this day.

however

Italy as Romania...emphasize Rome or Romanland, the history is clear...the actual state of Romania as we know it now is actually a derivative of the Greek speaking territory where the "Romaioi" lived.

Keeping mind that Italy was not an independant state until 1870, it was declared a Kingdom in 1861.

If I have missed something, go ahead ask again...cant be bothered to go through the nonsense of half the shit I am reading here.

if you have had a jewish mother, you are jewish

it doesnt matter where your from or how religious you are or even whether or not you are aware of your bloodline

so, how does that fit into your argument jay?

never said they were. But compared to say a belgian, the italian country as a whole has a darker hue to the cmplexion.

yes, as i pointed out

quote:

no but you implied it.

quote:

nothing wrong with that at all! I encourage it

quote:

Yes i know but they were definately one of the influences that gave italians a darker hue compared to belgians. And when i stated this you said i went "over the line"

So again i ask... how is citing a moment of history crossing the line? What line exactly? How is it offensive?

quote:

hence why at one point the country was called Romania thus being the latin term for rome and romanland. Roma is the city and Romania was the country (empire)

quote:
Keeping mind that Italy was not an independant state until 1870, it was declared a Kingdom in 1861.
yes but you would also know that "italia" was used to describe the peninsula as whole long before that.

quote:

here.

you missed the answer to my question.

my mother is catholic... im not..

so how does that one work?

Talk to an orthodox jew about a non practicing jew married to a non jew and im willing to bet on what theyd say...

i believe the word disowned would be in there somewhere.

Posted by 7-4-7 on Oct-10-2006 00:36:

I never used the word racist, I understand the term well enough to know that it would be a misuse.

I say the term offensive, because you are offensive. History is separate, this is more about respect for other cultures.

Ignorance exists amongst all cultures, I agree. However disrespect is also a form of social ignorance.

If you have a question ask it again, or move on. I really dont feel like fishing through this crap to determine what your question is.
