i'm at home right now, but my comps at the club still... so i wont be able to tell you what tracks i have that are around 170 right now but some artists with a good number of songs w/ 160+ bpm that i know off the top of my head are almost anything by dem franchise boys, purple ribbon allstars, a good number of tracks by lil john, and a few other artists. i dunno, i use mixmeister to analyze the tracks and from what i hear it is very accurate...

its cool.. its probably 85 bpm in all actuality. i see some dudes dancing to it and it looks like there bobbin up and down 170 times a min though. its hard to explain but they just stand there and bob really fast and do shit with there arms and talk to eachoter and its all gangsta and shit... but yeah whatever ill take your word for it...

eh,

beat counters rely on certain frequencies in the bass to measure the beat, from my knowledge. THere's a seperate circuit, so they can only hear the part of the track which represents the beat... SO you have the BEAT DECTECTION... and then the BEAT COUNTING part of the unit...

Basically, i think that when it comes to uneven, unsteady beats, they're pretty inaccurate.

nah.. i don't think thats 170 bpm either, its getting up there probably around 145-150ish. you guys are paying attention to the wrong part of the beat.

the way music works, its all about phrasing, and the time signature its written in. no matter how fast the beat sounds like its hitting, even with all the crazy percussion that drum and bass has, or the dirty south hip hop beats with that fast percussion, you have to listen to when the beginning of the music phrase occurs and the end. split that into measures and then determine when the downbeat is. no matter how crazy the beat sounds, hiphop and edm is almost always written in 4/4 time. so kinda like breakbeats, where the kick usually comes in on every other beat and doesn't hit on every down beat, same with hip hop/drum and bass. of course i understand people throw in extra kick hits to spice up the music, but the main bpm determining kicks come on the first and third hit of the 4/4 measure.

i dont know if i was clear in my explanation, but next time try feeling the beat through the beginning and ends of phrases instead of where you actually hear a beat being hit. then you will realize the beat is much slower than what you originally perceived.
