Titanic I'd guess by popular opinion (though I very much enjoyed and loved the movie).

Cant tell you how many times I've seen it (including at least twice in theatres)

Interesting because it won big, Awards: Won 3 Oscars. Same with other movies quoted in here.

I for one thought Crash to be an eye opening, touching look at human interaction. I put Crash up on a pedistal, the same as American History X.

I would say the worst movie would be something like Lost in Translation.

2. Matrix Trilogy: Yes the first one was great, but the second and third lost all their meaning. Too much action, not enough of the good stuff i saw in the first one.

3. Harry Potter: Loved the books, HATED the movies.

+3 Well Said.

No, it sucked.

Edit: Also, Jarhead. It sucked. Nothing really happened. I fell asleep. Im pretty sure my nap was more entertaining.

I think Requiem for a Dream is a movie that you need to stumble across and then you would appreciate it in a different light. If friends are hyping it up, the overall thought of the movie would definately decline.

It's one of those movies that is a gem before the hype. Sort of like The Transporter, I came across this movie unknowingly and really appreciated it. Then some time later everyone was talking about it.

Oh im gonna get shot for this... Fast & Furious.

First one was ok. Plot was ok. Cars were amazing.
It's just one of those movies that you're drooling over something (usually girls or cars) and ppl think that makes it good.

The sequels though, they all suck.

I have to agree that with the exception of universally criticized films (can you say Uwe Bowl films), or the cult fan favourites, it really is personal preference.

For example, for those who say LOTR was overrated, I could not disagree more. Jackson did what people said could not be done (live action LOTR), and he didn't butcher the plot that badly in the process. There were some slow parts, but the sheer epic scale is unmatched and likely will be for a long time. The main battle scene in Return of the King was of such a scale and scope, that most other "medieval" movies with battle scenes pale in comparison. The extended versions of the movies are even better, adding even more background story to an already great set of films.

I would say the same for Castaway. I found that it really gave a great sense of the solitude that the character faced, and the insanity that would slowly grow on any person in that situation.

War of the Worlds - was sooooo disappointed with this movie; stOOpid movie plot changes

Battlefield Earth - Happily have not seen it.

Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation; LOVED the first one but when I rented this, I should have realized that this slag of a movie went straight to video for a reason...

Come on! Showgirls!! That's the movie hating spirit!!

How about Gigli; now THERE's scraping the bottom of the bottom...

This is simply a movie that you either get or don't get. If you grew up in a certain time period you usually understand the stupidity of the film. Its a stupid funny but not something like a Hot Shots stupid funny... that leans more or less to something like the Scary Movies... I can't really explain more other than to say you must understand the underlying theme behind the film in order to laugh at the stupidity.

As far as something like the LoTR series.. like I said probably one of THE best book-to-movie adaptations.. but seriously those movies just seemed far too prolongued and very predictable... all 3 movies had the exact same buildup... likewise with the new Star Wars type movies.. where they try to have this extravagent storyline for 2hours to try and hype you up for a final battle which is what most are waiting for...

Requiem For A Dream needs to be a movie you see without anyone telling you even remotely what its about nor try to hype it up to be something special. If you happen to be "lucky" and just stumble across this film its a very powerful film that should make you feel... and if you don't feel for this film you must have completely missed the point... more or less refering to my initial statement... you either get it or you don't.

Definately need to add X3 to this list as being one of THE worst films in a very very long time... I can not believe how bad that finale was.. it completely murdered the trilogy in every respect.

Some others:

Spiderman 1&2 -- Spiderman was alright, but the second seemed like a complete rehash of the first with a diff villain.
All of Clint Eastwood' recent flicks... can't bash that Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby movie enough... BAH!
Matrix Revolutions -- The 2nd almost made the list but you must understand the Wachowski brothers didnt give a crap about the storyline after the first... the sequels were MEANT to be eye candy and eye candy only. I didn't add Reloaded simply because the action was enough to keep me entertained and not care about the storyline... but I knew the 3rd would be shear disappointment... and without a doubt it was
Harry Potter flicks -- ah same thing applies here as with the LoTR series...

lol two of the greatest movies ever.

gladiator, 5 oscars...and at least 40 other awards world wide.
LOTR trilogy, 17 oscars...and at least 200 other awards world wide.

I don't see how these two films are overated, but that's your opinion...

LMAO your justification for a movie being good is because it won Oscars? LOL thats as bad as the DJ Mag top 100.

If you need award shows to tell you whats good and whats not then your clearly don't critique a film.. you simply follow the general public.

and this thread is great... we all need to be able to agree to disagree.. but most of you are not explaining why you think its sooo amazing or completely terrible.

yeah I guess judging a movie based on the awards its won, the money its made...the fan base, the box office records it broke, the actors and directors who've done extremely well in the past...

is wrong.

your logic is...well, there is no logic to your post.

lol and the logic to your post is let everyone else decide for you if its good or bad? Just because the majority of people might think a movie is great doesn't mean you should follow suit... and I'll relate this to the DJ Mag Top 100 which appears to have just been updated.. you go take a look at that list and justify why 95% is such a joke.

I guess we'll take your logic into account and focus on the highest grossing movie of all time: Titanic

Well while were at it, James Cameron directed the Terminator flicks, Abyss, Aliens, True Lies.. why yes he has some amazing films on his resume.. does that mean ALL of his films are a masterpiece?
