That's my motto!

I used to have the same problem, but I cleaned up my act this year. I just made the decision to change my ways, and stuck to it.

I guess it's because I'm genuinely interested in nursing, and truly have a desire to do well and learn something from doing my assignments. That's really my only motivation.

Although it helps that there are absolutely NO exceptions to the late policies. Most of the time we aren't allowed extensions. Our shit is either handed in on time, or it's a zero. They take this really seriously, and I'm glad. It's part of our professional development...and I could use some help in that area!

Once you get into keeping good habits, it feels good. The sense of accomplishment, responsibility, etc...keeps me focused. I also find that setting small goals keeps me on track. Like, I actually write my goals down as more of an in-my-face reminder that I have shit to do. And when I DO get those things done, I look back on all those little things (that actually add up to big things) and think "Wow! I did all that!", and that's how it motivates me.

Really it's just something you have to change with the way you think and how you approach getting your tasks done. Gotta be in that mindset!

Also, like lucid said...rewards and punishments work really well, but only if you enforce them. I won't let myself go to any parties unless I get ALL my work done that's due for the next week before the weekend even starts. Not only do I get the work done, but then I have the WHOLE weekend to fuck around. Nothing worse than going out on Saturday, knowing I have to go home to homework...blech!

i think its safe to say I'm TAs biggest procrastinator. I say smoke a bowl if you think it'll make you more philosophical. Otherwise buck up and just do the paper.

6 Pages down, 4 to go...

Weed did help.

do a fat line of meth. you wont sleep for a few days, but you'll spend the entire time writing. and if you decide you've written enough, you'll do the most meaningless tasks you can think of an not get bored until you sleep.

Grrrr. I am frustrated.

I have about 10 pages more to type today for a Philosophy midterm and won't let myself leave my apartment until it's done, but unfortunately it seems I'm finding anything and everything to do around the house instead of work.

So far I have:

- Cleaned my room, the bathroom, and the kitchen
- Vacuumed the entire apartment
- Talked to Bas on MSN
- Posted on TA
- Organized/Burned new music
- Gone to class.

I can't seem to motivate myself what-so-ever to do any writing - In fact, the only thing I have done well is sticking to my guns and not smoking any pot until my work is done, which may seem a foregone conclusiont o some, but unfortunately I smoke a bit more than I probably should.

So, anyone have any recommendations for what I can do to whip myself into shape? I hate the fact that I procrastinate so much, so often, but I can't seem to find a way to beat it.... Am I just a lazy douche?

Ack.

/wasting more time not doing what I should be.

you are preaching to the choir, sir.

i have three exams next week, one monday, wednesday, and friday. and each of those days i have 4 other classes to be preparing for. and then i work 25 hours a week. and i can't get myself to read any of the damn material.

you just have to force yourself. start somewhere like actually writing it on paper...that way at least you're writing something. it'll help you get ideas out so you can form basic arguments. then just hash it out. procrastination actually helps me because i think
i work best under pressure, but i can definitely relate to being like okay enough's enough let's get this done.

now that you have no more chores to do sit down with your material...it should help.

I always found procrastination to be a positive force towards my performance.

After all, it was only when the time was so limited and the situation so dire that the work was sufficiently challenging to necessitate my full attention. Whenever I tried to complete work early, I found it impossible to concentrate completely on the task at hand, often taking frequent breaks and subject to many distractions. Without the imminent threat of failure, my motivation to focus was insufficient.

So that is why I embraced procrastination, rather than struggling against it. And it served me well... but it is not for everyone.

adderall usually tends to do the trick for me, but the zero appetite and insomnia that are followed are shitty

Told ya

If nothing else works for me, then I just get a little high and within an hour my creativity skyrockets, which in turn motivates me to start writing.

You have to make the choice to just stop procrastinating, enforce some good habits, and stick to it. It's allllllllll in your head.

THE END

Oh, and I love butth4x.
