Regardless of what a woman wears, or how drunk she is, it's never her fault for being raped. People need to stop thinking this way.

Whatever that's such BS. I can guarantee you that more than half of girls that are "raped" when drunk and not actually raped. They just don't want to feel like complete whores in front of everybody the morning after, so they lie about it.

Natural Consequence? No. Expected consequence? Yeah, prolly.

If I'm walking naked in a world where I am responsible for my own safety and well being and men are not held accountable for their actions then yes, I think I could expect the worst.

I dunno. I kind of understand where you're coming from but you and I are of the same culture.

You were raised to understand the meaning of "no." You were raised thinking that a female is of equal value and her wants, needs, feelings matter. You were raised to understand that it doesn't matter how she dresses or how she behaves, you do not have the right to do something to her or with her unless she wants it.

Rape is a very delicate subject, and there ARE cases where women falsely accuse men and it totally ruins their life and reputation. In no way am I making or excuses or saying that many women aren't innocent victims.

For example, say a girl wakes up in the morning next to some random guy. She can't remember what happened last night, she was really drunk, and she has no idea what is going on. She sees a condom next to the bed and thinks she must have been raped. She may not have any memory of what happened the previous night, so essentially she is just "assuming" based on the circumstances.

The reason I am posting this is because a good friend of mine was accused of rape in high school in a similar case as this. That girl put him through hell for months before it finally emerged that he was innocent and she had made the whole thing up.

There can be a very fine line between consent and rape, and when people have been drinking or taking drugs it can become even more blurred.

I don't find the cleric's remarks offensive. They are just inappropriate. If I were of his culture, I would understand that I am responsible for my own safety, my own well being. I would understand that the men of my culture hold me responsible and are not held accountable. I would only go outside of my home with my family or friends and when I go outside, I would cover.

Why? Because this would be the norm. This would be expected and acceptable behavior.

Do you belong to your culture or does your culture belong to you?

It seems to me that those who were raped did not ascribe to the ideal which our cleric here espouses. If we nonetheless consign them as belonging to that culture, then do we not infringe upon their personal sovereignty, much like the rapists did?

On the other hand, if their culture belongs to them, then it is for them to define it's parameters. Neither we, nor any cleric can claim that their fate was acceptable according to their culture - that is for them alone to judge, and there is little doubt as to what their judgment would be.

Culture is a fascinating phenomenon, but it must be curtailed so that it does not consume the individuals exposed to it. The failure of multiculturalism is that it does not propertly curtail the scope and function of culture. Preserving the innocuous elements of various cultures is a good goal, but preserving fundamentally flawed systems of ethics is not.

A friend of mine is a trainee lawyer & she's seen this. One girl who is prosecuting a guy she's defending had been having an affair with her mums bf, her mum caught them, her on top and blatantly loving it, but she cried rape. Apparently she's cried rape 4 other times too. There was also the story of a girl who fucked 4 guys one night & phoned the police for a lift home the next morning. When they refused she said she'd been raped. She got named & shamed a couple of weeks back. Poison like those are harming the poor women who really have been attacked but are afraid to report it due to the shit these others have begun.

On the original note, it's a HUGE subject here lately, esp women & the veil. One woman sued a school after being sacked for refusing to remove her veil during lessons. It is outraging both sides, and the friction & tension between muslims & other faiths is really close to boiling point.

This might be an inappropriate thing to say but this thought just crossed my mind...

Why do these men have to RAPE??? Like if they are really that desperate for sex...they can always go get a hooker or something and have sex peacefully at a motel or something....Rape is a crime and leads to soo many other issues...whereas paying a hooker leads to no problem at all...

Not trying to be funny or anything but I was just listening to the Veronica Mars podcast ( this season deals with college campus rape ) and the writers mentionned how yelling fire gets others peoples attention more than if you were to yell rape or something of that nature. In the fire case people feel as if they are personnaly at risk of danger while in the second case they could be attacked or something of that nature.

/off subject.

Because a criminal mind doesnt believe in paying for sex + the thrill of the action itself spikes up their adrenaline...

most rapes have nothing to do with sex. its about power.

That's not a correct interpretation. His socio-cultural values are at odds with the western world. that's all.

If he goes and preaches this in Pakistan, he will probably get more approval nods than frowns.

He's living in the Western world, and he should tone down his extreme views. But that's besides the point.

You have to ask yourself, "What would IGK do?"
