Bullshit thread. Something easy can be good and something hard can be bad. I can make a lovely sandwich in 2 minutes, and i can make an advanced dish in 2 hours that tastes like shit. There is no direct relation between (level of) skill or effort needed and how the result is interpreted.
Then DJing and making music are two different things. There is a demand for guys who play records in a continous mix because ppl like it. A pianist with 30 years of training who can play blindfolded will not satisfy the needs of those ppl. In that context he sucks, but that does of course not mean that being good at playing piano is shit, it's just a different thing.

To those who think that learning to DJ is easy: you will be surprised how many dj's there are who have been doing what they do for 8+ years and still cannot go through playing a 1 hour set without trainwrecking at least once.
Examples: Tiesto, Pete Tong
..... Pulsedriver, Blank & Jones

You def. have no idea about DJing, you might as well drink some poison and go to sleep.
You're saying as a dj you have to "act?" Well, i hate posers man. I don't go to a club to see an "overweight chump" play 80's choons, I go to a club to have a good time and get some proper education.
Djs have it easier than musicians? It's like separating chlorophyll from plants. Djs are musicians, most of what you call "djs", usually have their own studio and make their own tracks. The mere action of composing and writing makes you a musician, the whole idea of arranging music, mixing, eq'ing and playing for the entertainment of others, makes you a musician. Therefore, djs are musicians...
I've seen straight faced djs that bring the house down every night they play. Djing is not easy, you can play cheesy records all the time, that's easy but all it makes you is a freakin sheep.
Once you're looking under the kompakt back catalog and digging for "Guerilla records" on your basement, or playing that long lost track on WARP you can consider yourself DECENT.
Go to bed...

Both Musician's amd DJ's are entertainers. They use their skills to take people on a journey and help them enjoy music. Each has it's own set of skills.
I am a musician and a DJ, and trust me, neither one is easier than the other, they both require extreme dedication and passion. Lord knows, they're not the best paying jobs in the world!

This is why I am all for the Ableton movement. With so many djs now being excellent producers, there could be the same live element to a DJ show as a rock/classical concert. In fact, I would argue that in the near future, it won't even be an arguement: the best djs will be the most talented musicians in the world, as they will be able to produce at a world class level (and show those skills live), while having truly spontaneous shows all the while having the structure and flow that isn't there for the vast majority of concerts for other genres.
I think DJing does require skill - just not in the way you are thinking about it. A musician tones his skill to play the music. A DJ brings the music to the people and the mixing, crowd interaction, song selection and personality are skills they use to do so.
