I love the guv but in moderation. I could not go there every weekend...maybe once a month at max. What I love is the fact that guv is an experience rather than just a regular club night. You have to mentally psyche yourself up for it to enjoy it given the craziness of it. Where my love/hate relationship starts is the fact there is too much choice in where to go given the abundance of rooms. I love pretty much like all the rooms for different reasons as they each have their own atmosphere but hate how anytime I end up somewhere I want to be somewhere else. It's the "club hopper" in me where I'm just never satisfied staying in one place. for too long.
Took a well deserved hiatus from the GUV complex, but will be returning on November 11th to the Gallery for Eric Entrena!
haha a girl i met a couple weeks ago was talkin about Guv... first story out of her = tripping into one of the sketch circles on the floor... does that still happen?

I luv the Guv, and always will. So much variety in every room. If I don't feel it, I go to another room. If I feel like another kind of music, I go to another room. If I don't like the DJ, I go to another room. It's having several nightclubs in one place, one admission price. Club hopping on Richmond is a pain in the ass if you want change, the Guv is easy.
Its drawback like others have said... on big headliners, there's big crowds, and when I can't dance to my fav DJ or sound, it kills the buzz. But that's not too often for me, though if one person only goes on big headliner nights, that's the impression they're going to get. If I drive almost an hour to get downtown, other clubs won't cut it for me.
i love the venue. like abercrombie said, so many different sounds. if one room starts to bore you then just go to another room.
the drink/skybar is my home. i will never have anything bad to say about the music or patrons.
as for the best sounding system in the complex, i'd have to say the drink. the only thing that i dont like about the drink are those things hanging from the ceiling. i dont like the effect it has on the lighting.
LOVE the guv complex. KH is my home
I love just being about to bounce around from room to room and hear a whole bunch of different sounds all in one night.
Koolhaus is my favourite room though, all my best memories are in that room.
As for Guv Complex on a regular night, couldn't tell ya. I only go for big events like Labour of Love, Guv Anniversary, etc.
I'm not much for small clubs like Footwork or TiL. I like being able to get lost in one room, being surrounded by people just moving to the music. Crazy lights and a pumpin sound system.
in a word... asians.
i agree w/ a lot of the pro guv comments, the abundance of rooms and sounds is awesome. HOWEVER... i'm not rlly a fan of the all access events, too sweaty and no space to dance.

H-a-t-e it.
Over crowded, Snotty, gino-esque people(who come off as unappreciative know-it-alls in terms of the music), packed with sweaty shirtless guys, and chicks with far too much plastic surgery.
IF they bring in good enough talent to the gallary/orange room/drink, I'll go on an all access(which is even worse than guv regular nights(because its even more overcrowded, and take 45 mins + to get from one place to the next) but tollerable if I stay in the one room ie. gallary/orange room/drink.
Also I hate how you get all psyched out for big events there cuz of the line up and then you get there and its a huge let down, cuz of the atmosphere/sardine-like conditions/over abundance of sweaty shirtless guys rubbing against you/no room to dance and/or too hot to dance.
All in all, i'm boycotting guv for a while.
I might get an itch to go back next time they bring down the Freestylers or Icey.

guv room is ok, craziest lazers but usually too packed
kool haus is better tho but its in the same complex, so guv complex as a whole is the best club around Toronto id say
I Love it!
I Love iT!!! BUT!!! Only During special events when the entire complex is open to wander, but even than they implement one way crowd control (LOL 2006...Gawd!!!) But I still love it.
Sure the crowds are large on occasions, but that just goes to show how many people out there love it just as much as we all do, on occasion.
I have super fun times when I go, even if you get separated from your group youre bound to run into someone you know always!
You run into the weirdest and coolest people there at the same time.
I've been on regular Saturday nights and its awful, for me.
I think The Guvernment is one of the BEST night clubs in North America!

the same djs every year
just hate it cause its packed
otherwise its all good.
I've only been once.. Labour of Love 06 and I was quite impressed with the crowd.
Guess I can't really form an opinion yet.

I can't stand the crowds of idiots.....but I love the lasers and DJs.

Originally posted by hardcore trancer There are more white and persian crackheads there then anything dude. At least those people are there every Sat supporting the scene regardless of which super star dj is playing unlike you who is only there when there is a big dj.I wonder if asians complains how fucked up and racist white people are. Bottome line it is a after hour club and most people are fucked but for some reason people choose to pick on the asians which I think is wrong thing to do.I'd have the asian crowd anyday over the "cool white crowd". |
Hate it? No. (except for all access events)
Dislike? Maybe.
Up until fairly recently, Guv was my favorite club. These days, I'd much rather go to Sonic or CZ. When I do make it out to Guv, I find myself spending the majority of the night in the Gallery.
I do however hate all access events. The last 3 or 4 I've been to I just couldn't enjoy myself for a number of reasons. Some include: how crowded it is (gotta go to the bathroom? plan 20mins ahead lol), usually too hot, crowd is a hit/miss etc.
*Note: I know what to expect from Guv and am not complaining, just stating why I choose other venues.
