stereo crushed aria. owned!!

Not really. I'd say overall the afterhour market is diminishing, if anyone took away from Aria's clientele it was Circus. But I'm a firm believer it's more the fact there aren't as many people going to afterhours overall.

I can see a Friday night at Stereo with a headline DJ and the place with a capacity of 800 isn't nearly packed. Circus' main clientele besides its handful of regulars is usually tourists and clubbers. If Stereo didn't have its gay clientele on Saturdays, it'd be painful for them too.

I was around when Aria first opened in competition with Sona and I think JFL has done an amazing job bringing in talent that we will rarely or never see in Montreal ever again. It's a tough market and industry to do battle in, one where there isn't a big enough piece of the pie for all these clubs anymore. I for one am deeply saddened by its closing because Aria was definitely the home for Trance/Techno and headliner DJs in general. I must admit I've only been a handful of times this year but at one point I was going almost every week and I for one will cherish all my memories of the place.

Thank you JFL. Thank you Aria.

What are your plans if Aria is closing, Martin?

None for the moment. When I was saying that I was really tired and that I needed a break, it was true. So you want see me hoping on another after wagon for a while.

Actually, I can't even confirm that Aria is closing, I don't even know.

I need the rest, and november to march are rather slow months. So I will look at the new options towards NYE, and prepare RM 20. I should be back in action around February 2007.

It's not a necessity for me to play, I will do the right move, but will be very patient about where I will contribute next.

I had one of the greatest, most memorable nights of my life at that place...It's so sad it's closing

And Tag. I agree Stereo owns every fuckin place's ass..But don't bash Aria. Remember all the good times u had there, U used to love it

Hypocrites

I wanted to add that A LOT of you are fucking hypocrites. I started posting on MTLNIGHTS in 2002, tranceaddict, I don't remember, 2003 or 2004.

When I started posting on here this really came across as the ARIA forum whereas MTLNIGHTs has always been pro-Stereo. You guys make jokes about Stereo and flame gay people, then you bash the shit out of Circus because they were generally competing with your "Oh so Loved" Aria and since Aria has been declining and is now probably dead, you're all jumping to Stereo or some of you jumped to Circus just because of Louis.

Pathetic.

Posted by LiGHT78 on Nov-03-2006 23:36:

I'll always love Aria, it's just hard to have good words for a club when you go and there's 50 people on the dancefloor.

I miss the times when this pretty much was the Aria forum.

Anyway Kendo, even though I know your post wasn't directed toward me, I don't see the problem with people changing their opinions and allegiances toward clubs for whatever reason.

In the end, who really cares. A club can be my favorite club on Earth, but if I go a few times to find 50 people on their dancefloor, it's over. Doesn't mean you don't appreciate the good times there, it's just time to move on. Clubs come and go.

Posted by Kendo on Nov-03-2006 23:38:

Hey, I have no problem with people switching clubs, I've spent periods of time going almost every week for a year at Sona, Aria, Stereo and now Circus. I think it's another thing when you blatantly flame a place or its clientele only to jump ship when your "It's the greatest place on Earth" club goes down.

Posted by malek on Nov-03-2006 23:39:

is there a confirmation about this?

Posted by malek on Nov-03-2006 23:44:

err what the hell.
some of my issues include the HORRIBLE sound at aria which would make u leave deaf.
and the fact that NO one goes there, dancing alone sucks.
sure i miss aria the way it used to be, but its been a LONG time since i had a good night there.
so I really couldnt care less about the place now.

No that's not what I meant, and I wasn't dissing you. I understand your issues. I meant that if indeed Aria is closing, there's nothing funny and we should care about

1- nice people loosing their jobs (bouncers, staff, Djs)
2- one of our only 3 major montreal afters closing (which is a bad sign about the futur cause afters are not doing THAT good)
3- Minimum respect for the good things they have done, and many good nights.

ARIA will always be my #1, my second home & dancing temple! ... nothing will ever compare to those days when it was at its best.

i really hope it won't have to shut down. i lost my heart & soul at that place.

Thats all fine and good, but i never bashed aria in this thread until you brought this up. I mearly said stereo owns.

Aria is what helped me get into edm...Montreal is the closest major city to Burlington, and my friends and I would ALWAYS look forward to making the 1.5 hour drive up there to party our asses off. When we weren't at Aria, we'd be talking about when the next trip up was, or reminescing about the great times we had. I have met most of you guys there, and even being from out of town, I still consider it my home...there is something so familiar about it. Aria's where I heard edm for the first time live also (Ferry, "The April Night")...there is no way anyone can bash a place that has brought you such great nights. The afterhours business seems to be a very cut-throat and shortlived one...as far as I'm concerned, if one has had the staying power of more than a few years and the legacy to leave behind that Aria has, it will always be respected.

Boo, I'm sad.

i wonder who knows my passord...lol <3
wasn't me

as far as this thread goes, this debate has been going on since last year.It will close when it closes. It is the case with every club...they all have their time until it is time for no more.Even Stereo will close one day...its just the way the business is...

I might bash the club, but more out of frustration than anything else.I still will have many fond memories of the place that will never be taken away no matter what.It is sometimes hard to remain positive when a certain owner likes to act unprofessionally on certain boards. Was anyone around for the infamous jfl battle on mtl nights? You can't play your client base for suckers and expect them to just keep coming back.
The residents of the club will get jobs.(A talented dj always will)
The people working will get jobs(and possibly more tips...it must have been hard serving 6 water bottles in a night...i feel worse for bombardier employees)
The remaining faithful will find a niche or another place to call home(The return of the private eventsa at non club venues are a good sign for the scene in this city.)
It had to come one day...I chose to remember the glory days over the club losing all direction.
RIP and thanks for the great nights.

Tag you n00b, where were you in the golden years of Aria? Its soundsystem was fucking rocking, it could accomodate Techno, Trance and House, and everything in between.

Yeah dude it used to rock, It went to shit ever since JFL said he was making improvements to it. Don't ask me how that makes any sense though.

Posted by Icetoad on Nov-05-2006 19:42:

I am sad to see Aria go. I will treasure the nights I spent there back a few years ago, seeing such awesome DJs like Mauro, Ferry, and Laurent Garnier.

Also, Tag, why do you say Aria's sound system is bad? If you end up leaving with ears ringing then you should wear some ear plugs.

Didn't Aria's decline start with that stabbing that happened around Halloween 2005?

Posted by all-nite-freak on Nov-05-2006 19:43:

speedy j live act.....omg omg orgasm for the ears..
the system is fine...it just isn't set up properly...you don't have to be a sound engineer to notice the difference from before.

instead of carrying this thread out as a rant list your best aria moments..

top 3
3.chris liebing
2.sven vath
1.speedy j( best of anyplace i've ever been..)

Posted by jester on Nov-05-2006 19:55:

This is not my place to say it, but I wouldnt mind Aria to move into another venue, but a smaller one that would cater to like 600 people for the afterhours.

I know its all about the money.

One thing that would resurect Aria (imho) would be every month have a special night with a different record label or association with another club from another part of the globe.

Have a Renaissance night... Bedrock night... Pacha... would be interesting too see in this city.
