hey fuck you man for not caring. Im not sure why you didnt see those other threads since they are not so recent that it would force you to sit and refresh your computer screen all day. It gets friggin annoying when the same thread is posted three times. You get all these responses and you got to check up on three different threads to see them all. In the future, check to see if thread has already been posted like this one.

I agree.

The things that i really respect oakenfold is, that he brought the sound to ibiza and england from new york. Furthurmore, trance music would not be the same today if it were not for him. His discography and history is very significant to what has evolved today.

Also i have a beef with people hating oakey for doing other stuff aside from trance, like rap/hip hop or whatever. Even before his famous trance sets of 99, hes been doing sort of whatever in new york. He signed snoop dogg and fresh prince (will smith) to him label in new york (not perfecto).

For me, the apex of the old school Trance era was when Oakie dropped "Not Over Yet" at Gatecrasher. There has never been a better track to drop at a better place and time.

Just blew my shit away.

I saw Ferry drop this tune a few weeks back, it blew my shit away, I couldn't believe how amazing the moment was when I recognised the tune, I was so incredibly happy. I'd have loved to have been there when oakie dropped it

yeah well basically you could have oakie playing cheese (like pvd and ferry are guilty of more often than not, do NOT flame me for this) or going prog like tiesto (and armin on occasion)

he does player deeper trance but its not like in 99 only HE was playing those tracks, cuz everyone did... except for his white labels..

and its not like there's 5 classics in the past year you could really name that havent been already caned by everyone.

so he could be, just another trance dj, or expand his sound.

true..... i see what your saying

You meant the event at Lotherton Hall in 1999? The first track in the set? The first time I heard it, my spine just went soft

Posted by izzywillynilly on Mar-21-2002 16:27:

So what are breaks?

Posted by Devbert on Mar-21-2002 16:53:

Trance has changed. Not for the worse though, it's just different now. But memories of that shit still linger in your mind.

Oakie was the most over-hyped DJ on the planet playing at one of the largest venues ever, and it was a lethal combination of timing and skill.

Right when the synth's kick in, and the crowd starts to realize what song it is, then the vocal's hit them, and they go nuts, it's fucking trance bliss.

It literally cannot get any better then that. The moment that defined a genre in my opinion.

Posted by izzywillynilly on Mar-21-2002 22:02:

again, what are breaks?

He looks in his Oakenfold folder and clicks on the China(Rojang)Essential Mix. An hour of some of the best trance mixed anywhere. He is happy.

Definately up there with Robert Miles as to the Dj's that got me started in Trance. His style from back then i really miss.

Posted by El Mariachi on Mar-21-2002 22:16:

yea what are they

Posted by El Mariachi on Mar-21-2002 22:17:

I've heard a some of sasha's cd compilations and they sound too.. boring. Like its not even trance, just like.. I dunno.. elevator trance?

But his NYE mix we sweet.

Posted by Devbert on Mar-22-2002 02:49:

The first or the second hour at Rojan in China?

Posted by patticus on Mar-22-2002 02:53:

both hours. its wicked... very original, a lot of tracks he never played anywhere else but about on par with his 99 EMs

Posted by discojoe on Mar-22-2002 03:17:

breakbeats kinda like drum and bass. Fast beats. Not steady like trance

well... basically d'nb is breaks played at 45. heh.
and 'not steady' i guess he means to say that the kicks aren't four beats a bar, the kick drums are on off-beats...

which makes it more ... funky

Be Cool!

well we can talk about that oaki was great at 99 but we live in year 2002 and in this year and in 2001 he really sucked....and this is essential not what he has done. this is my opinion

Posted by izzywillynilly on Mar-22-2002 15:38:

oh, so breaks is short for breakbeats?

yeah but we've been discussing the fact that his sets THIS year have been good, not what he has done in the past 2 years.
And Jan Drivers mixes are good as well stiffmaster

I've liked most of the newer oakie that's been playing lately. It's different, I'm referring to his Ibiza CD here, but it ain't bad.

Posted by Devbert on Mar-22-2002 22:44:

And it's just your opinion that he sucked in 2001.

I didn't think he was nearly as good as in 2000, and definitely not 1999.

But I personnally feel like he had some good sets in 2001, just played a little to mainstream for me.

Just my opinion.
