I figured as much, you see it on those 'free' online poker tournaments as well...

Fingers crossed they get weeded out quickly

Then, i bought a book about internet poker, started playing seriously and turned it all around. Went from -$200 to about +$150 in a month, and that's US dollars.

If you are thinking about playing online for money, i suggest you wait until you are a decent player and have developed a solid game, otherwise you will get burned very quickly.

what book?

havent won anything on my cash ins down about 150us but ive been playing freeroll tournies the last few months. came 25th in a tournie of 6000 which aint bad.

im waiting till im ontop of my game before i cash in again.

Simple but effective! Discipline is probably the most important factor in playing online IMO.

Alright, just had my first Australian Poker League tournament... much better than I expected...

Positives: Decent players, not random drunkards... we were worried about teh blinds going up every 15 mins... but it wasn't too bad... game goes quicky, finished in 2 hours... decent night out.

Negatives: Didn't know how to shuffle lol... oh, how you get 500 chips if you order a drink... that was the fuckin catch... shit... any idea if the national poker league does this? As this really irritated me...

Overall, about top 30 of about 15 x 8 players, lasted 2 hours... pretty happy w/ myself

yeah npl does it as well. the venues have to make money somehow. they cant just put on free poker every week and lose money. its not big deal though, just dont buy anything. you dont really need the extra 500 to start IMO theres so much dead money on the table anyway

Posted by Tholius on Nov-16-2006 23:54:

Yeah you're right... initially I thought it might make a difference consdiering the blinds... but if you play solid it doesn't really matter... Espec @the end where a 500 chip is pretty much in significant

A few mates play on full tilt and party poker, in US dollars. If your half decent and patient there is money to be made no doubt. You also need a little bit of experience to understand when your in trouble and when your not. Obviously not for everyone, but no doubt money can be made playing poker, especially online.

My mate's sister works for the Australian Poker League. Apparently the guy that started it is rolling in the money. The clubs pay about $5-$10 per player to the APL every night when the poker tournaments are on. That is with the assumption that the players will spend money in the club, but half the tightasses there just drink water all night and dont spend anything.
