You answer your own problem...

Your dad is allowed to be imperfect because he is human. Isn't that the basis for why people who have stupid opinions/responses to "death/insert any topic"?

Guess you didn't read the part where I said "I'm not looking for clarification, I have my own opinion. I just wan't to know what you all think."*

Also, that bit about my dad was just to emphasize my point.

*I already have MY OWN answers. I want to know what other people think.

this reminds of something I read a while back. I believe it was on someones blog or something of sorts perhaps a magazine article?

The person ( female I believe ) went over the creation of new life extensions by way of the internet, forums and blogs. This mass of material gets built over time yet unpreserved and usually lost the minute it has been posted.
In the future it would be good for families to take into account these online lives of the deceased ones. Maybe make books, use some quotes ... at least not put all that to waste.

That was me.

Heart failure.

Now the reasons why he had heart failure? Who knows.

agreed 100% jennypie

when DickRenegade was around he IMed me a few times, each time asking for advice. I tried giving him the advice he wanted but he came off as nothing but immature, arrogant and completely into himself. I dont know why people got upset at me when I expressed this after he died, because if its anyones fault my image of who he was is tainted, its his...

It's really strange that this is coming up now. I knew Dick Renegade from a few other drug forums and heard he died a while ago, but I didn't know he was here too. I imagine it might be related to the drugs he was doing at the time, as he was pretty young and a heavy steroid user and was said to be relapsing to an opiate addiction. RIP dude! It sucks, he'd just became an MD and all too..

So he was a druggie?? Yeah, a real shining example of a Doctor. LOL.

I guess... My dad was a doctor and had problems with alcohol, just because you're an upstanding student doesn't mean you're immune to the same problems as the rest of society. I've known a fair amount of doctors who use illicit drugs too.

Do you know what it's like having to tell people they're going to die or not be able to use a certain part of themselves again for the rest of their life everyday? It's a really mentally taxing job.

Posted by Ian on Nov-11-2006 00:20:

brilliant post jenny. What POA didn't realise is that we didn't have the liberty of knowing DR like he did. We got to know him through his actions here, so of course, many of us thought that he behaved like an ass. Using your piece, simply put it means that we were "those people" who thought like that about your dad, and poa is "you" Maybe some people can change their minds because of something like death, but I see that as being wrong. My morals say that if someone likes/doesn't like me for who I am alive, i wouldn't want them to use death as a reason to change that opinion. It's life, and one thing many people fail to grasp sometimes.

It's not about being an outstanding student. It's about taking one's role as a health care professional seriously. I have a very strong opinion that I think it's highly unethical/unprofessional to advise people on their well-being if you aren't healthy/well yourself...especially if your problem is drugs and alcohol. It impairs your thinking and judgement, ffs. That's not the kind of person I want giving me medical advice and/or treatment.

It's unacceptable, imo.

As a matter of fact, I'm a nursing student and I'm going to specialize in palliative care.

Posted by Fast Turtle on Nov-11-2006 00:32:

Well, that gives you a right then, but still, this sort of thing does go on and will continue going on as it's a part of the personality society itself and no one is immune. I guess, I don't feel one way or another about it, so long is the doctor is sober when he sees me. The personal life of physician is not my business. My dad would never treat a patient while intoxicated, and he would tend to 60-70 hour work weeks, constantly being on call. He was a good fucking doctor, even if his life wasn't perfect.
