It's just the way he comes across as an idiot that kills it for me, i find him annoying. There's other comedians who use political commentary that i enjoy more. Am i missing out? Maybe i'de have to watch the film instead of clips, but his character alone annoys me so i doubt i'de go see it. |
If youre gonna watch the movie, and just watch Borat, than yea, you missed the point. Its not about what Borat is doing, its about how people react to him.
Now gypsy! Give me your tears!

| Borat spanked by angry Yank By EMILY SMITH US Editor November 13, 2006 COMMENT ON THIS STORY BORAT star Sacha Baron Cohen was beaten up by a passer-by after he tried to play a prank as his alter ego. He approached the man and said: I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it. But the bystander didnt see the joke. He took one look at Cohen and punched him in the face. The funnyman known for his Borat catchphrase Jagshemash! yelled for help but was slugged again and again. He was rescued by actor pal Hugh Laurie who had been on his way to a New York bar with Cohen. Rescue ... Hugh Laurie Picture: SPLASH Laurie rushed to help and pushed the man away as Cohen struggled to his feet. A pal of Cohen said: Sacha couldnt resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person. I guess this guy thought he was being attacked by someone unstable and lashed out. Sacha is very lucky he didnt get a much worse beating. The incident took place after Laurie and Cohen appeared on the US TV show Saturday Night Live. The Brit comics were on their way to a late dinner when Laurie suggested they visit a bar in Manhattan. Laurie, 47, told friends he feared Cohen was going to get badly beaten up. Luckily, 35-year-old Cohen did not receive any lasting scars. Studio chiefs have warned Cohen to avoid pretending to be the spoof Kazakhstan TV reporter on the streets. Since the film was launched he has only appeared in character while promoting the movie on American television shows. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is tipped to become the highest grossing comedy of all time. |
Its amazing that as soon as something goes mainstream or explodes, it doesn't take too long for someone to protest against it, and claim it to not be 'the next big thing'.
Thing is, no one ever claimed this to be any such thing. It does appeal to a wide demographic, and it is light-hearted humour. Besides that, what exactly don't you get about it? It's over-rated? By whom? What exactly ISN'T over-rated? It's not over-rated, it is merely popular.

| Originally posted by Danny Ocean Astro, i understand the beauty of the method, and i could appreciate it. I just don't appreciate his characters. Check out this story i posted, the lines in bold: I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it. I guess this is were hes trying to come off as an idiot..i don't find it funny at all though. Dosen't he say similar phrases to everyone else? Im sure the scenario he gets people into may be funny, but him just being there would keep me from enjoying it..i guess it's just me. |

Definitely not my type of humor...but why is everyone going so nuts over him? i just don't see it. I don't think the guy deserves all the attention he's getting either, tool. |

| Originally posted by dj_bas Not really, he just finished up with all of England. Before the Ali G show he did Borat for another comedy show and he went all over England and Europe. I guess with Ali G's success over seas, he was alot more recognizable. |

Oddly, after all my excitement for the film, I don't think I'm even going to bother seeing this movie until it's out on DVD. Borat was absolutely terrible on almost every talk show he appeared on to promote the film, and the immense overexposure has really, really doused my desire to see the film at all.
The sketches he did on the Ali G show were terrific - Why he chose to appear on all these talk shows where the humor of Borat simply (and obviously) doesn't work is beyond me...

oh and i saw the movie before really knowing about the Ali G show. i don't watch that much TV...maybe one or 2 shows, so I hadn't heard of him. i thought the movie was the first time he came out with that.
so i was at a friend's on saturday and we were watching it...hilarious!! he was acting like this gay austrian reporter and he was interviewing football players. lmao
i was dying laughing.
