I've only been to one ultra (8) and I had a f'ing fantastic time, in part, because it was a totally new/different experience for me. Either way, I think ultra would benefit from a lineup adjustment. Keep the major players (pvd, cox, etc.) but throw in svd, marco v and replace oaky w/ a&b and b&j (dare I say atb?). If they did that, i'd buy multiple tickets for myself alone. Festivals are about diversity and the more there is, the better the festival's received. My .02

FUCK YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! OMG YES bring ATB to Ultra! Getting rid of Cokenfold would be a fuckin' GREAT idea...good choices too, man. B&J, A&B, SvD....that's major fresh talent right there!

which is what epd doesn't understand.

it's fine to keep same GREAT BIG DJ's.. but dude every year there are no new highlights.

it's getting old.

Especially for those like me that have gone since 2000..

I didn't say to have a ton of trance but atleast more then 2 to complete a whole entire trance stage. If it is about EDM then it should sport all types of it.

The first couple of Ultra's were very full of ravers... and back then I remembered Ultra been called.. Ultra Electronic Music Festival, Not Ultra Music Festival . Ive been going since it was held at the beach, with the Gatecrasher tent.. god I miss it, and then it was Ultra 3. The best two Ultra's together with Ultra 5 I think it was.. best line up. Ever since its been about the same artists but for major various reasons. Now if we were more electronic it would cater a lot of ravers, and then everyone would bitch about that too no?

The logic behind is that booking DJ's today its 10x more expensive then it probably was back in 2000. Only Oakenfold, Sasha & Digweed and a couple were on top of the expensive bill.. Judge Jules even in the UK, today everyone just charges your mind off. Anywayss... I always like variety, but the business has become so competetive and the such, that a festival like Ultra, with competition like Global Gatherings, has to choose wisely and DJ"s that will bring a crowd. Believe it or not, the DJ mag list makes a difference on who do promoters want on their club and not.. I like B&J and SvD and Cosmic Gate, but most likely promoters will look @ their position.. Last time Cosmic Gate was @ Ultra, they were placed in the back by the bay Id say 10 people were there.. thats risk business for Ultra.
All in all, I really hope Ultra does something different this year. THey had the Techno stage last year, which I believe was new, and had an OUT OF HAND line-up. Awesome awesome.. maybe they could add a trance stage and see how it does. Then they could bring from ATB to SvD and rock it too.. Cosmic Gate would def. rock it and even Rank1, but we all saw what happens when bringing this acts that no one but US know about.

In regards to live act.. Depeche Mode, they'll bring a crowd, Daft Punk, they'll definetly be a win... everyone loved it.

DA and Mel,

Thanks for the replies. Just trying to get an feel on your opinions.

I agree about the trance tent, I think I'd be good for Ultra. Imagine a techno, house and trance tent. Thats what its all about.

Either way, the conference will be the place to be. Can't complain about that.

Now how the hell can I make a grand an afford a week off of school?

DA, I am sorry but it was a DJ set, not a live PA. There was no production, lighting, etc, which their live PAs are full of. And I guess you do not like breaks, because that is what they were dropping, and nice ones at that. To each his own.

You sure? Then again, I can't remember too well, but I could have SWORN it was billed as Chemical Brothers live...

Oh yeah, and back then I didn't like breaks. I do like them now. Michael Warren, who's mainly on CP and VERY rarely on TA, is a good breaks DJ.

I just don't get it.

No trance. Big deal. Trance is a small minority of electronic music. Yes this is trance addict, but can't we appreciate all forms of EDM? Especially for one damn day of the year?

Yes its the same damn lineup... of many of the top DJs around the world in varying genres.

There is nothing like an outdoor music festival of that size... and ELECTRONIC music to boot? Jesus that is a gold mine. Nobody can find that in the US anywhere except Miami Florida.

Sorry for ranting. I'm from Tampa after all.

Trance is still the most popular form of EDM when looked at worldwide. And you say the biggest "electronic" music festival, yet they are not booking acts like it is. Electronic music has always been about thinking outside the box, not just booking the same exact played out EDM acts every year. They booked more pop/rock than trance last year. How is that being the biggest EDM festival???

And yes this is Miami, and that is why some people will not go to Ultra. Because during those weeks of conference there is much more to choose from than just one festival with the same played out DJs over-and-over again. If someone likes trance and is not big on house, and Ultra does not book any good trance DJs do you really think that person should spend $75.00 - $100.00 on a ticket to Ultra rather than going to another conference trance party??? Come on now. An outdoor festival of that size is only as good as the lineup, period. And the venue matters as well, and I agree that Bicentennial is no good for Ultra. Too many stages and clutter. Bayfront is 1000000000 times better.

Yeah I was right in front of the stage. Their live PAs are very huge productions, which this wasn't at all. Just the two of them tag teaming on the decks with the ordinary Ultra light show.

One word.

UNDERWORLD. Their live PA its up there with DAFT PUNK
