I've got an idea.

How about we just scrap fucking roll calls altogether?

If you are attending, then post in the event thread.

That would....

a.) solve the abundant amount of roll calls we see weekly

as well as

b.) increase the activity in the event forum

Posted by jon jon on Nov-16-2006 17:09:

this thread has lost its way a bit, which is my fault.

interesting...

Posted by StereoPrincess on Nov-16-2006 17:12:

well, i guess that would work. the best thing about the event section is that it doesn't move threads up or down in the list.

Where do you draw the line Jon?

You say yourself that you occasionally post local dj's sets, and even have your own posted as well. I don't see someone wanting to put out their sound whether it be in the Dj Promo thread, or in their sig, to be a problem really.

Posted by jon jon on Nov-16-2006 17:14:

my problem is with the excessive self-promotion, not promotion

Not really.

I post them, because as it sits now - everyone posts roll calls as a means to see who is coming to various events. I have absolutely no problem to sticking to the Event Forum IF that is the way Del wants the forum to be conducted.

by "interesting", I meant "good suggestion"

I'm confusing a few times in this thread, my bad. It does look like the quotes go together which is not at all what I was trying to do lol fuck

While we're at it.... how about we scrap fucking photo threads as well..... stick them in the god damn event thread ffs. Because, lets face it - posting a seperate thread with your pictures IS infact shameless promotion.

Today is 'let's eliminate clutterfuck day' on TA, brought to you by the letter's G, E, and K.

it would be better if we had a "sub" forum in tota for just pics... so people could search them also... but im sure del has something in the works.... EVENTUALLY

Interesting. I've been thinking about this for a while now too. Unless I know someone personally, I find it hard to take anything anyone is saying about a party on this board seriously. I know for a fact that this message board is taken seriously by management of night clubs in our scene, so I always find myself asking exactly why someone is posting this "omg best night evar" party review. Even when I do know someone personally, I always take their possible motives for their posts into account. I find that this board is turning into more of an avenue of promotion than a place to find out where good parties in Toronto are.

Also, I have noticed that the longer I have been on TA, the more pressure I feel to be a little bit more careful in what I say on this board. Although I'm a very candid person, and most of the time post what I feel, I cannot ignore the pressure from various sources that I now feel when I press the "post reply" button. It makes you wonder about the "quality" or even truthfulness of the posts posted by other people in my position. Most people aren't as candid as I am.

I think the idea of having a place for roll calls, reviews and pictures is not a bad idea at all.

It should be run just like the event thread where there is only one post for each roll call, review and picture thread, and they are organized based on the date of the event. They could stay on the page for a certain number of days, then afterwards be moved backwards like it is in the "past events" pages. It would make things easy to find, and take them out of the main forum.

As for promotion, while its not my favourite thing in the world, I realize that there are all kinds of things posted on here that aren't my favourite in the whole world. For the most part I can censor what I see based on the threads that I open, if people are getting out of line, I think moderators should be the ones taking care of it, but no need to make any large changes as far as that is concerned.

Graham-

i totally agree with you. i have almost been on this board a year now (i think) ha. but i was reading it way before.... over the weekend @ shannys, 2 of our guests who are lurkers, as well as one is a fairly big dj from the states, all recognized EXACTLY who we were JUST from reading the boards.... and there were a fair amount of us...

now think who else is reading this

+1

With the difference being that i still let it fly... because at the end of the day my feeling is that it doesnt really matter to me if anyone else agrees or not.

sorry to edit your actual thoughts, but this is exactly how I feel.

it's pretty damn easy to skip what you don't want to read.

crying about what is ok and what isn't ok to post is lame...just skip what you don't like and let the mods close/delete what doesn't conform to the forum rules.

a bigger issue than pointless threads is pointless posts. Threads are easy to skip...but scrolling through meaningless posts in an otherwise worthwhile thread is annoying.

e.g. the "omg I love you, you're my bestest friend ever" crap that all roll call, photo and review threads tend to become. I do care to read review threads in particular, even if I haven't attended the event, but sifting through the pages of "omg, you are sooooooo awesome!!!" stuff that goes back and forth for pages is rather annoying. Take it to PM, MSN, whatever...or get a room

how about a COR sub-forum for TOTA? Keep the main forum for reviews, roll calls, music sharing, and music related stuff in general...and have a COR sub-forum for all the other stuff?

some people want to go off-topic, but keep it within TOTA (i.e. people they know) instead of going to the general COR, political, etc. forums

Yeah, because ultimately the photo threads just turn into a second review anyways....

How about scrapping shit altogether? But remember, one man's treasure is another man's shit. Which 'man' do we listen to?

This board is far too political. I joined to have some giggles and see what was going on in the world but mainly to see where my friends will be partying, what kind of time they had and where my friends are spinning.

If we remove all the aforementioned things, this leaves us with cars, naked women, disco balls and debates about girls in suits out of work.

Enjoy.

First: People who complain about this have way too much time on their hands. Ive always said that if you dont like it, dont click on it. Obviously political threads for example arent for everyone and ive noticed that there are those who participate and those who dont.

Same thing for event reviews. Some reviews i read and some i dont. I have the ability to select based on my interest. Why cant others? If im interested in whats out there then i will read more into detail. I think most TOTAs have already figured out who is affiliated with what so its not hard to take a grain of salt with some comments.

People wonder why "trance" doesnt get talked about? Well id argue that dance music in general doesnt get talked about. Because 90% of our scene involves events, music downloads, discussions about albums etc etc and with the ever increasing restrictions placed around here its getting harder and harder to talk about these things.

For example my radio show. I dont make ANY money from this thing. I am not a DJ who is promoting myself. In fact the only reason I do this show is because of my love of music and my longtime (since childhood) dream of having a radio show. Yet everytime i try to talk about it it's labelled as spam?

Bottom line. IF YOU DONT WANT TO READ ABOUT IT, DONT CLICK ON IT. Otherwise STFU!

We already have a forum for reviews/pics/etc

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=3

It's just not a forum that TOTAs go to. (And many of us do not bother to venture out of TOTA)

Hah. I most definitely do not suffer from lack of candidness.
