I was treated like absolute shit in France, and in general, by the French the entire time I was in Europe. Granted, this is 3 months after the invasion into Iraq, but honestly, in every other place I travelled, people didn't instantly write me off the second I opened my mouth. Sure, we spoke about politics and differences between cultures, but everywhere else people judged me for who I was. The French? The second the majority of them had me pegged as American it was immediate rudeness. It was ridiculous - And consistent, it wasn't an isolated experience. |

Lots of Americans are completely disconnected from what their government is doing, and now you got real proof (a wakeup call) that the actions of your government have a direct effect on how regular Americans are perceived. In other words, what's happening in the world is not some video game that is brought to you by sanitized and scripted American networks like CNN, it's actually fucking real. Quite an insight, isn't it? |

| Originally posted by Masonious Considering our GDP is the highest in the world, and almost equivalent to that of the entire European union, not to mention 11 times higher than Canada's and 3 times that of Japan, which has the 2nd highest GDP, we're doing pretty well for a country filled with people that are mostly, "stupid as fuck" - which is a brilliant way to express your feelings about another's intelligence, you must be a Shakespeare buff. |

| Originally posted by HardTranceProd Dude GDP has nothing to do with intelligence. America is doing well at the moment because it has lots of natural resources, a market economy, and a strong military. But 92% of Americans are religious, lots of them reject science and believe in Intelligent Design, the vast majority has no grasp of the outside world or geography, I could go on and on... |

While most of what has been said is generalisation and is questionable, America's external policies have made it the most hated nation in the world. So don't expect sympathy or friendship from other countries as you have had the ability to change this for many years but haven't.
The French have always been rude, and trust me, they're much worse with Brits than they are with Americans. But I have to agree with them on one thing, Americans are by far the rudest and most obnoxious tourists in the world, hands down.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the more volume the airport has the greater the chances of running into employees with attitude...
It's the nature of the beast.

Well they aren't friendly when entering the county. But after you pass customs my experience is that most US citizens are very friendly and nice.I really had a great time visiting the USA, did some roadtripping and it was really a blast. When you tell them that you are from Amsterdam/Holland they all want to know about the red light district and the coffeeshops. They also think that we dutchies are constantly stoned and go to the hookers 3 times a week.

I think in every country their are friendly people and not so friendly people.
Bah..people are just being jealous. Rudeness comes with the arrogance of being a super power. you mess with me and you get fucked. End of story.
If you want to enter into USA, get ready to be subjected to humiliating checks. Yes, we think you are all terrorists unless and until proven otherwise.
re: original post
wait, so you're telling me that you want to get into this country AND be treated with politeness and respect?? It's one or the other budy, one or the other LOL
America.... fuck yeah!
Seriously, America rules. I'd rather be rude than a bunch of pussy footers. We get shit done here. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I cross Us customs by land pretty often and for the first while they were real pricks. After a few months they started recognizing me and even know me by name lol...no more problems.I can get were they are coming sometimes as i've seen Chinese citizens and what not attempt to cross sans passport. If I saw this shit as much as they do i would find it hard to be friendly too.Honestly the Canadian Customs officials are more rigorous and bigger pricks.I always get hasseled more coming back in.
Apparently the mexican/us border people are the worst. They call mexicans thonks because that is the sound you get when you whack them with a mag lite. That doesn't look good for you guys.
The rednecks are pretty bad but most of the city folk are friendly as long as it isn't NYC
