You should have gotten a clue that she was ugly from the moment he had a hard time finding a picture of her. Obviously she gets hidden away from public sight and she doesn't make it to the front of the family picture book cause she's fugly.

Just a quip from historical perspective, marrying first cousins was done for a long time (even up to Victorian period IIRC), most to 'keep the money in the family'. Seems the upper class did this a lot.

For example, Canada's first Prime Minister Sir John A Macdonald married his first cousin.

It's viewed as disgusting in Europe. I think spastics are a result of cousins shagging cousins.

The effects of inbreeding over a single generation are not much, you might have 5 more birth defects per 1000 live births. Over several generations, however, the affect can be multiplicative and quite pronounced.
