Probably some sort of a hub to network the two laptops and / or connect other instruments with the laptops.

looks like an m-audio oxygen to me, nice setup, but as stated, overkill when 2 techs and a good mixer can do the job.

I don't think the Oxygens have pitch bends and modulation wheels. This has me baffled...

ahh found it, it's an Emu Xboard 25.

my question is what the fuck is the controller on the left used for. I saw him using it on thursday at Metropolis and couldn't figure it out. In retrospect perhaps it might be for on the fly time travel.

why does [vd seem to attract so much abuse just for useing technology?im not a dj but i dont c the problem with movieing with the times and useing all the technology availeable.is it justa reason for pvd haters to attack him?id the tunes r good in a set who gives a fuck whether ur useing decks or whether ur useing a nasa pc too mix?r djs just expected to use 2 turntables & viynl just because thats what used too b done?

Ya just for the record, not sure how many of you here use Digital shit to dj with but yeah...

There is no way in hell he could possibly make use of all those MIDI knobs/faders/pads/thingers/etc throughout the course of the night, especially since he's only using 1 laptop for Ableton live, dont forget that the xone:3D also has 8 MIDI faders + how many MIDI knobs?

I agree with whoever said this was overkill, Sasha is the man for having that Maven designed, and Sasha spins with 10 decks! (Virtual )

For all that gear in that picture, to tell you the truth, his sets really don't seem that creative and unique with all that gear. I thought it'd sound a lot more expanded and dynamic but I don't think you can really do that with trance, for how I've heard him mix, why not just use 2 CDJ's and a mixer? The sets really aren't that special...

when's the last time you saw him? me and nefardec saw him thursday at metropolis and he pushed the technology to the limit doing absolute amazing things, although he didnt have his other laptop with him i just assumed he quit using ssl but he brought it to play vanguard.

Posted by jupiterone on Nov-27-2006 06:19:

I heard some of his sets recentely, last time I saw him was in central park so i doubt he was using that then. But then again, I dont really follow up much on trance anymore.

That is a multi-port soundcard. There was a large thread over at http://scratchlive.net about his setup. I never really understood why he used SSL injunction with Ableton. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

To follow up: I think this is the thread about it.This is the thread about it. I will say, it is very large, but interesting to read.

I wonder what he's using Traktor on the left laptop for

btw. I wouldn't care what he uses, if his sets wouldn't decrease in quality constantly. Seriously, I noticed that his sets became worse the more technics he used

Posted by DaveT on Nov-27-2006 09:59:

I wonder if he just uses a different software setup on different nights. Just whatever he feels like.

When I saw him in September here in SF, he had Ableton Live running on both his laptops with the Xone 3D.

He was real good, but felt he used a lot of effects to cover upsome subpar transitions.

Hehe, nice setup anyway, also from aesthetic point of view, which is not so important, but nice to see.

Posted by jahnlay on Nov-27-2006 11:02:

It's great to have 2 laptops, just in case you have a crash. It's easy to use all that gear, have you ever seen a Rick Wakeman or Emeson, Lake and Palmer gig? The keyboards are everywhere! He obviously has found a way of working that allows him to express himself well, which isn't easy regarding the lack of perfect controllers for Ableton.
