What the hell. Get it right, it's all 'techno'.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Incidentally, one of the clues in a newspaper crossword puzzle I saw today was "electronic dance music", with the fitting word being 'techno'. I almost murdered someone.

Well, it is actually electronic dance music, so what is your point?

Point is that it's a subset of EDM, while most people (in the US) equate techno to encompass all of EDM.

whatever, because people are soooo used to know EDM by simply saying techno

Check "Ishkur's Ultimate Guide To Electronic Music" and you will see that Trance and House and their thousands of different styles are very often exchangeable with lots of crossroads over the last 20 years...

House without Trance and Trance without House will never happen.

so what if people were going to a trance event, eg Armin or someone like that. what would you call that?

As for the word trance and it's usage, it's the same in India... we just call the trance parties trance, house parties house, regardless of subgenre.

As for Isra, there are a lot of DJs and Labels on Isra which is neat if you are into 'psy' etc. Meh...

Welcome to Tranceaddict, where we have enough users that pretty much every genre of music is likely to be represented.

Don't be silly, AvB and other uplifting/epic trance people have always been called trance in Cape Town, what clubs did you go to?

Vortex was always billed as a psychedelic trance party, and no epic trance dj was ever billed as house.

Even if the purists disagree, when most people refer to trance, they mean the epic trance which most other people hate.

4 years clubbing in Cape Town, I frequented the following venues where the main rooms were dominated by epic trance and hard house/trance.

Boiler Room
Pure
Unity
Gallery
Studio 47
96 Degrees
C2K

Attended raves with over 8000 (club scene isn't as big as some cities) people to see the likes of:

Non trance:
Carl Cox
Leftfield
Orbital
Lisa Lashes

Trance:
Judge Jules
PvD
Tiesto
Blank & Jones
Dumonde

Trance tracks that were all the rage, such as Carte Blanche, For an Angel, Greece 2000, Wizards of the Sonic, Memory, Dreamland, and Synaesthesia, and they were never referred to as house by any of the clubbers that attended these parties.

Everyone I met called epic trance = trance, hard house = hard house, house = funky, and psy trance = psy trance.

I lived there, literally every weekend for 6 solid months, the owner (Donald) was so impressed by our loyalty, that by month 3 we had complete free VIP reign, and knew all the staff/bouncers/etc by name

I miss those days
