I think he was just complimenting me on how I rock so much, but wanted to make it look legit.

Some more rock:

Bitcrush
Broken Social Scene
The Spinto Band
Art Brut (more new punk, fucking awesome uk shit, if you can get into it, fucking great live band as well!)
Two Gallants

Lots of great artists on there, but lists like these prove nothing.

fuck what it proves, it's just music.

What can I add to what has already been said?

I definitely agree with Tool. Aenima is one of the best albums ever made.

If you want something trippy, check out Brian Jonestown Massacre - Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request. You can get all of their material for free on their website... they give it away!

If i did, i would've mentioned that i wanted postrock, shoegazer etc. I thought people would read the list of bands i wrote and then make their recommendations out of that.

But yeah, i guess i should've been more specified to begin with. Should've mentioned that what i meant with "expanding my horizons" was getting into more bands, not other genres of rock. My bad.

The mainstream rock i posted is in my opinion much, much better for most occasions. I don't see the fact that it appeals to more people as a bad thing, actually quite the opposite. You can't play postrock stuff at parties. Post rock works great as soundtrack for example (28 Days Later!), or when you sit alone by the computer, but it's nothing i listen to otherwise.

Also thanks for the replies people! Can't say im a big fan of P.O.D and the likes, but there seems to be some recommendations that i should enjoy. A special thanks to |Thrax|, you seem to be pretty much spot on!

And please don't post more youtube clips, my computer can't handle those very good.

In the heat of the moment i forgot to mention one of the best discoveries i ever made. Finnish rock band Poets Of The Fall, their song Late Goodbye was featured in the end titles of Max Payne 2. I loved it so i checked their frist album "Signs Of Life" and it completely blew my mind, i loved every single track. This year they released their follow-up "Carnival Of Rust", yet another great album, not really quite as good as the first imo, but it has many highlights and they are at the same level as all the fantastic tunes from the first album.

If you haven't heard em, this is probably exactly what you're looking for. Melodic, emotional, "poppy" if you wish, rock. Just a lot beautiful music, no bullshit.

I guess the suomi dudes on here are familiar with them, it seems like they're huge in Finland but here in Sweden no one has ever heard of them.

Poets Of The Fall - Signs Of Life
Poets Of The Fall - Carnival Of Rust

My favorite bands, as of now:

Bloc Party
The Verve
Foo Fighters
Smashing Pumpkins
Radiohead
Oasis
Coldplay
A Perfect Circle
Refused
U2

(Snow Patrol is also good, but i so wish they would have another singer that didnt sound like someone taken from a american high school movie or something..)

Anyone care to help me out here?

To get back to the original question, we have fairly similar tastes it seems. I'd highly recommend looking at some of the following bands:

The Stone Roses
Keane
The Cranberries
Death Cab for Cutie
New Order
The Cure
The Counting Crows
Guster
Collective Soul

I think with your tastes listed, these bands would match fairly well.

Posted by Danny Ocean on Dec-02-2006 20:03:

i'de also recommend
The Prize Fighter Inferno - My Brother's Blood Machine

it's Claudio Sanchez's solo project. It's a blend of acoustic and synth pop electronica beats. Concept album, tells the story of a troubled family and two brothers who have a machine that take the souls of those who do wrong.

This has been done many times, but I always like to see what other ppl listen to. Lately as far as Rock:

Porcupine Tree
Blackfield
Buckcherry (I'm listening to their 1st CD again)
Led Zeppelin

Good band doing the rounds right now is Wolfmother, reminds me a lot of early Black Sabbath and Led Zep, both of which wrote some of the best music in the 70's.
I still listen to a bit of Nirvana, Stone Roses and U2 once in awhile.
From the 80's... bit hard to recommend one I'd favour out of the lot so I'll start typing and you can go looking for them.
Depeche Mode, Police, Concrete Blonde, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Crowded House, Noiseworks, New Order and Fields of the Nephilim.
I guess I could also throw Ministry into the mix there too, one of my favorite bands ever
And anything by Jello Baifra and Henry Rollins in their many guises, but thats maybe a bit more punk/hardcore than rock.

I mostly listen to Industrial, Darkwave and EBM these days mixed in with a bit of D&B and Trance once in awhile.

The #2 album The Nephilim is worth owning alone as well just because theres not a bad song on the whole lot, especially "Last exit for the lost"
Carl has one of the sexiest voices in rock <3

Heh theres a lot of bands thrown around in this thread and the majority aren't anywhere near what you are looking for so ill try and name some that are relevant.

Vega4 - Very much like Snow Patrol
Fields - A new band that don't even have an album out yet but there are tracks out on the net, have a similar style to Bloc Party to a certain extent.
The Fray - They have been mentioned already but have a likeable piano rock sound and are worth a listen (I'm assuming that Sweden is similar to the UK in the fact these guys haven't had any radio airtime unlike America where they are pretty big).
Razorlight - Their lastest self titled album has been huge and im a big fan of it.
Hard-Fi - Maybe a bit more of a UK Indie sound than the bands you named but a good band nethertheless.
Liam Frost - Upcoming artist who has a lot of buzz surrounding him. Very listenable
The Kooks - Absolutely massive album. Fantastic band

Ok Theres a few to check out. Ill give another list now which arent exactly what you asked for but if you like the ones i suggested you may like these too :

Little Man Tate
Milburn
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
Larrakin Love
Guillemots
Editors
Yellowcard
Damien Rice
Straylight Run

Thanks for your effort, but i don't know. Tried some of their tracks and they sounded a bit like Nickelback. Perhaps i forgot to mention that i absolutely despise anything that sounds like them.

I suppose it's a bit hard to make recommendations seeing as the bands i listed are pretty different (indie, britpop, hardcore etc). I think i might like some of the bands DRM mentioned though!
