I disagree. If you are in a situation where you know you are going to die you can accept it.

People are just scared of dying too early and unexpectedly.

Personally I'm more scared of at some point spending my days in some chair with no-one to talk to or care about me while pissing and shitting myself and realising that I'm probebly losing my marbles at the same time. With nothing to look forward to, and memories of how great life can be while realising you'll never do any of that again ever.

I find that FAR more scary than death fuck dying at 90.

I don't want to die, but I'm certainly not afraid to die. If someone was truly afraid of death, they wouldn't do things such as skydive, or bungee jump. I want to do both of those things.

Yeah totally depends on the situation.

But I dunno really because everyone accepts that they are going to die (at some point). But it's the knowing you are going to die that seems to cause the problems, and the manner.

If someone told me I was going to sleep and not get up I could handle that, but if I was in the middle of a road with a bus comming straight at me I'd be shit scared (not for every long though lol).

There's a better chance that you will die in a car accident. Just because you drive your car does not mean you aren't afraid to die. Like I said before, we convince ourselves of these things and live in oblivion as a feature of mortal sentience - maybe it's evolutionary that we are aware of our own deaths but choose to ignore it most of the time.

Put a gun in 9/10 people's mouths and they will be afraid. The rest are either stupid or visibly insane.

I try to put the thought of death to the back of my mind, but whenever I get thinking about it it scares the shit out of me.

I don't know. Never thought about it, I've got better things to do.

If there's an afterlife, then death is of no significance. If there isn't an afterlife then you won't be around to regret dying... so it's of no significance either. Spending your limited time here worrying about death is hence irrational.

I've stared death in the face more times than I can care to remember. It always backs down first. I am a fucking rock.

Why do people cry when someone dies? because deep down they know they'll never see them again. If Aliens exist will we try to convert them to christianity?

It is not something that needs convincing. If you are born without an innate fear of death, you are not a human being, mortal in this state.

One of man's greatest fears is the unknown - when faced with such things he reverts to his most basic, animal state. There are some things, however, that are even worse than the unknown - like knowing what it is that lurks there. If you say you're not afraid of death, it's only because you've never actually seen it before and can only speculate with uncertainty on what lies beyond it.

Maybe it could be argued that humanity has an innate predisposition towards religious dogma, so it is possible for us to truly overcome the fear of death by belief in a benign afterlife? Yeah, because religious people aren't afraid of anything.

Maybe it could be argued that placid acceptance of one's own death is something that everybody comes to terms with at some point and that, as rational beings, we are able to overcome this fear of the unknown because fear is an irrational thing. Because human beings are really, really rational creatures. Yep, that's us. Rational as can be.

Let me try and clarify things though - "afraid to die" and "never falling asleep again because I'm petrified by the fear of death" are 2 very different things.

We are comfortable in our illusion of safety, some of us comfortable enough to taunt what it is that this illusion guards us from?

I've come close about 3 times now, closest was a coma for 5 days. Honestly death is inevitable. Accept your fate and live YOUR life, the way you think is right or atleast try to. When the day comes imagine it as your first birthday the 1st day you breathe air on your own thru your own means.

Philosophically the idea of death to me is mystifying and almost scary, but at the same time I accept its finality.

whell im in the bonus round of life right now so im just happy with what i have. im not really affraid, atleast i dont think i am. i dont know it depends on so many things how why when where i die. who knows i dont do anything dangerous but i do do alot that will affect me later in life. hum good question.
