So "kicking Trance downhill" isn't supposed to have negative connotations?

Like I said: he's not always right. Although he often splits down genres excessively simply to parody the kind of people who insist on categorising everything.

I thought that Ian Van Dahl and co.were just a kind of euro-beat, euro-pop or what they funnily call in the UK as "scouse-house".

Arf. Nobody outside the UK actually knows what Scouse House is, do they? Scouse House isn't euro. Since when did Ian Van Dahl and Ayla hail from Merseyside?

I was reading the DI.FM Ishkur's guide to electronic music and I found that he hates epic trance and dutch trance. For me, these are my favorite genres. Songs like:

Paul Van Dyk - For an Angel
System F - Exhale
Deep Dish - Say Hello
Vincent De Moor - Fly Away
Ferry Corsten - Fire
Ferry Corsten - Punk

I'm quite confused with all the genres too. I'm confused with what genre certain songs songs belong in like:

PPK - Resurrection
Kreo - Burn for you
Dumonde - Memory
ATB - Marrakech
Kaycee - Escape

I'm just curious if those songs belong in the "epic trance" category.

I'm also curious if you guys like this style of trance or do you guys agree with Ishkur and say "Ferry Corsten killed trance"?

There's a sub genre in trance called epic trance?
I thought the only divisions were progressive trance,GOA trance,PSY Trance, and i heard of euphoric trance.it seems like all of the electronica genres just keep splintering off into more and more sub-genres.Oh by the way i love trance.I'm a big fan of all forms of electronica actually. But what the heck is epic trance?

I agree.I do believe that's the only post i agree with.I don't believe epic trance is recognized as a sub genre.

People need to get off their soap boxes and just enjoy whatever they are into. The title of this thread is so pointless and basically was conspired to get people in a tiz about the whole thing. This myth that "epic trance" is indeed an actual genre of music is irrelevant and even more irrelevant is thats its stupid.

Go out and enjoy what you enjoy and if it makes you happy on a Saturday nite in the middle of a club with your hands in the air (like myself) then bloody well have a ball instead of listening to daftys like Ishkur who are so bitter and proably introverted that they feel the need to say things like "Ferry Corsten killed trance" to get a reaction out of people.

No, because it's obviously bullshit.

True.

"This is the buildup! This is the breakdown! Now's the time to put your hands in the air! This is the most emotional part, everybody! Okay, now it's time to dance again!"

Not for me really.

Your mileage may vary.

This doesn't make any sense.

Some people like to argue about music when they aren't dancing to it, so why don't you just let them to it and get off your own high horse?

Its simple. Theres a difference between arguing about music and then just making outlandish statements like "ferry corsten killed trance" or asking ridculus questions like "is epic trance stupid?". Such shite talking is totally non-sensical and is made to rile people up NOT to have a civilised argument or conversation about music

It's a rhetorical device, used to make a point. There's a difference.

Corsten is awesome!

He's okay.

Maybe im just a "lesser being" than you and the likes of Ishkur as i fail to see the point at all

Personally i'm more impressed with Armin and Tiesto and such. But i just don't like it when it's said he killed trance. He's good.Plus it's not dead.

Sorry guys, I didn't want to rile people up. I suppose my title could've been "toned down".

I was just going through the Ishkur's guide and I hit epic trance, and I thought "aha! this is the kind of trance I listen to." But then I read the description and he talks about it like one of the worst sub-genres.

I don't really mind that Ishkur dislikes epic (is there such a thing? its debatable as proven by this thread) and I wasn't about to stop listening to epic trance just because some guy said it sucked. I found this site trying to find more good trance to listen to and I've found some cool new tunes.

My questions have been answered. I appreciate the insight guys

Actually, I find Ferry a lot more original than any of his big Dutch peers. I'll give him credit for that.

that sounds like a lot of the clubs around here. The funny part is, they're RnB clubs and quiete popular with the RnB crowd. I can't help but laugh, because i can't hear the lyrics when i go in there, so wtf are they trying to dance and sing to?

It's not that much related to poor EQing, it's actually a harmonious blend of a stupid DJ that redlines the mixer, poor acoustics, and over-pumping the sound systems. Acoustics in clubs plays a huge part in this.

No. That's what effect it had. Has nothing to do with how good the music itself is. Time to roll the dice.

Epic trance is pop music

'Epic trance'
Haven't heard that one bandied around as a description before.

to make a long story short - yes, it's fucking stupid
