Originally posted by tearinox I was reading the DI.FM Ishkur's guide to electronic music and I found that he hates epic trance and dutch trance. For me, these are my favorite genres. Songs like: Paul Van Dyk - For an Angel System F - Exhale Deep Dish - Say Hello Vincent De Moor - Fly Away Ferry Corsten - Fire Ferry Corsten - Punk I'm quite confused with all the genres too. I'm confused with what genre certain songs songs belong in like: PPK - Resurrection Kreo - Burn for you Dumonde - Memory ATB - Marrakech Kaycee - Escape I'm just curious if those songs belong in the "epic trance" category. I'm also curious if you guys like this style of trance or do you guys agree with Ishkur and say "Ferry Corsten killed trance"?

People need to get off their soap boxes and just enjoy whatever they are into. The title of this thread is so pointless and basically was conspired to get people in a tiz about the whole thing. This myth that "epic trance" is indeed an actual genre of music is irrelevant and even more irrelevant is thats its stupid.
Go out and enjoy what you enjoy and if it makes you happy on a Saturday nite in the middle of a club with your hands in the air (like myself) then bloody well have a ball instead of listening to daftys like Ishkur who are so bitter and proably introverted that they feel the need to say things like "Ferry Corsten killed trance" to get a reaction out of people.

"This is the buildup! This is the breakdown! Now's the time to put your hands in the air! This is the most emotional part, everybody! Okay, now it's time to dance again!"
Not for me really.
Your mileage may vary.

Originally posted by thoughtlessjex This doesn't make any sense. Some people like to argue about music when they aren't dancing to it, so why don't you just let them to it and get off your own high horse?

Originally posted by gizzymcg Its simple. Theres a difference between arguing about music and then just making outlandish statements like "ferry corsten killed trance". Such a statement is totally non-sensical and is made to rile people up.
Corsten is awesome!
He's okay.

Sorry guys, I didn't want to rile people up. I suppose my title could've been "toned down".
I was just going through the Ishkur's guide and I hit epic trance, and I thought "aha! this is the kind of trance I listen to." But then I read the description and he talks about it like one of the worst sub-genres.
I don't really mind that Ishkur dislikes epic (is there such a thing? its debatable as proven by this thread) and I wasn't about to stop listening to epic trance just because some guy said it sucked. I found this site trying to find more good trance to listen to and I've found some cool new tunes.
My questions have been answered. I appreciate the insight guys

Originally posted by the_transient I've been to about 10 "parties" so far, and the music is usually so loud and poorly EQ'd that all you hear out of trance is the thump-thump of the bass drum. Then it gets quiet because of a breakdown, then back to thump-thump. Listening to trance on your home speakers is about 100x better.
dj shoko and dj dean

Epic trance is pop music
'Epic trance'
Haven't heard that one bandied around as a description before.
to make a long story short - yes, it's fucking stupid
