I agree Paulie. I think the problem is that the electronic music scene has been hijacked by the fashionistas.

i was just commenting on one part of your post, i think you should relax

Posted by anthony_n on Dec-07-2006 23:30:

Owning your own decks wasnt a fashion accessory like it is now. It was a passion, a desire. With the increase of digital technology and the ability to share music all over the world, i find that the originality and uniqueness of each dj has slowly disintegrated and with that was born the bedroom DJ, in which we are being flooded with.

I honestly think it depends on what you listen to and where you go Paulie. Maybe not in the house, trance or progressive scenes these days, but imo the amount of innovation in techno at the moment tends to generally always translate to that type of reaction such as "wow this is really unique". Matthew Jonson last year, Damian Lazarus, Jooris Voorn, James Holden - all of these acts left me with that impression over the last 12 months. It's impossible however for everyone to be unique howeber. Every secene/city/whaveter needs their warmup acts. Are you telling me that every time you went out to catch a local DJ "back in the day" that they were always completely unique and had their own style? I find that a little hard to believe.

I've heard you and a number of people talk about the "Decks as fashion accessory" arguement quite a few times and i'd be interested to hear where it comes from because out of all the DJ's i go out to see i couldn't put a single one of them in that category.

On the flip-side however, how is it exactly affecting you? I mean, people having internet radio shows from their bedroom - so what? How do you know that they're not doing it for passion. I tell you what, it's actually hard work getting a mix together once a month if you've also got other employment to focus on. Imo it take plenty of passion to do that. But at the end of the day - just don't tune in? What's the big deal?

Posted by Aesthetic on Dec-07-2006 23:52:

I think what Paulie's trying to get at is every second guy on here is posting a mix in the dj thread, and they all look like a carbon copy of asot or something like that.. it takes the flavour and enjoyment out for the listener.. its just like how everyone complains that 99 trance isnt popular anymore, because "it became so generic".. well djing in general is generic now, because every second household on the world sports a pair of shiny 1200's.

Posted by Dean Millson on Dec-07-2006 23:57:

You see i think that's a reflection on the music.

There is less "innovation" around in most genres, bar imo techno.

Imo every ASOT mix looks like the last one, so it's just as generic as everything else.

Posted by Aesthetic on Dec-08-2006 00:00:

I never disagreed with you, I was just using a basis for comparison. I dont even listen to ASOT

I think it's hilarious that you're pissed off about this shit Paulie!
What else do you want people to do? NOT post their promos and go do something else? Maybe some wannabe's are shit but who cares if they are! How's is it in your face dude, are you having 'DJ Promo Thread' nightmares? Maybe some TA's value the opinions of others on here so that's why they post them.
