Hey guys, hope you all had fun at the party and if not, you don't have to not post negative stuff about it (bc of so much TA involvement), go ahead!
Just to clarify a bunch of things regarding the party, here are some points...
As far as the sound, we're very annoyed by the shit job the sound guy did for us early on, totally didnt go over the levels or anything but kept the levels at the usual levels for their regular deep house sound, which obviously, with trance, isnt gunna fly... looking back on it now, i realize that, but at the party, it didnt really occur to me that was the case... so next time well have the venue ourselves (not sharing it with the saturday night afterhours) and the sound will be ALL OURS ;-)
As far as martin roth getting off early... yeah we were really annoyed by this... it had nothing to do with Roth, he woulda been on til 4, it was the Shelter guys and their weekly deep house afterhours... once again, we are never doing our parties here on saturday ever again, for this reason and a few others, it was extreme confusion and we had the idea we would go on until at least 330 and probably 4, but they changed everything up on us the night of, which didnt make us too happy... another clarification, the dj afterward was not our party, its a separate party from ours, so is the crowd, its part of the weekly saturday night deep house afterhours... anyway, hope all this sheds some light on some of the stuff that probably anoyed you bout the night, hope you give us a nother chance next time, i guarantee itll be 10 steps up and it will not be a night shared wit the saturday night deep house parties, but [/b]OUR OWN[/b] from start to finish! we have some big things planned in the near future, stay tuned!
PS - an hour of Eco's set was recorded as well as an hour of Martin's set, in high quality 192, spliced with the sound from a wall microphone on the crowd, so we shall have that up ASAP for your pleasure! also pics and vids soon
As far as the Shelter crowd, I have a lot of respect for the staff and the patrons. Sure it's easy to call them crackheads for staying out until noon, but I think the vibe at Shelter parties is something to be admired. They've been going strong since the mid 1980s, and the staff are all great people (although I'm very surprised a drink was 12$, that's insane). Back to the crowd though, I think it's more of a spritual thing than a crackhead thing. Victor Calderone crowd at Crobar at 1PM is a crackhead thing, these people are simply there to enjoy a vibe that you can't find in any other club in the city (too often), like their own little "Shelter". And when you really look past things like physical stuff or clothing or dancing styles, at the end of the day, they're having fun and are with their friends. The crowd at Shelter all knows each other for years, and it's like nothing we have in this city anymore. Of course it's not everyone's thing, but different strokes for different folks... My only complaint is their accomodation of the earlier parties (10PM until the beginning of their party)... It's a lot of confusion, money-wise and music-wise, and we have decided not to go back on Saturdays for this very reason. Much respect to the staff though, and once again, thank you everyone for coming!
As far as the drinks go.....some bartenders were charging more than others for the same damn drinks. The one guy downstairs with the gay ass pony tail charged my friend $16 for a tangere and tonic. We asked another bartender how much that drink costs and she told us $9. I wanted to bash his head off the bar....fucking clown.

Got in just before 4, basement was crowded and had a very nice vibe. Music by Luzz/Tyas/Deepspell was on point as always.
I walked upstairs expecting to hear some 140 bpm trance but was taken back when it was some dark minimal. I look up to booth thinking "Wow! Martin Roth is playing this stuff?" saw the DJ and then said to myself, "Wow, Martin Roth is black?" then someone told me about what happened which is not cool.
Props to the guys who put this party together. It was a very solid turnout and it takes a lot of balls to go to a place that established to strike a deal to bring in a new sound and crowd. Respect.
It takes a lot of tweaking when a place is used to one crowd and have to deal with another - especially for security staff. Mike's party downstairs was great too, and it was fun to see a lot of friends there.
I'm sure I was walking through many peeps the TA board, and we need name tags I think LOL because it would be nice to meet you guys in person.

(exit teen nights)
Anyone remember when Fabulous was supposed to perform and never did ?
Hi hi everyone.
Just got back to Miami. MmMmM 71 degrees ftw!
\o/
haha.. Anyways Tom and I weren't supposed to go but I am a horrible gf and all my bitching and complaining lead us to going. w00t!!
We both had a great time. Martin Roth is so kick ass. Such a nice fella and he played great..
Another YOU Another ME =
So nice to meet some more NYTA's. You guys are so nice
I had a great time except for 1 thing.
What is up with that resident dj's attitude. OMG. He was in such a hurry to get Martin off. NO RESPECT AT ALL! Then for his 2nd track I see him going crazy throwing jackets around the floor flinging a towel across the booth to look for some keys to open up the back lock. So damn rude.
Ugh.
He was a major asshole. I HATE YOU MR RESIDENT DJ @ SHELTER. If anyone knows him feel free to link him. Learn some manners and atleast let the GUEST DJ's last song finish, so the crowd can show some respect. Martin flew from Germany after all.
Anywho. I had a blast. Martin gave me a VANDIT shirt.. woo hoooo

^ Dat pic is G
First off want to thank Michael from Massive as well as Eco for settin up this party, you guys put alot of effort into it, and you can definitely see that by the good turnout throughout the night.
I never made it upstairs to hear Roth or Eco b/c we were goin 2 for 2 for 2 in the basement, so couldnt really go far from the booth. But i had many friends that were upstairs and said the music was on point.
Had a blast throwing down a nice dark and dirty house set with 2 of my favorite locals NY djs...always a pleasure to spin with good friends. I want to thank everyone and especially the TA's for comin out to this event. Lookin forward to Sullivan Room the 29th with Datt and Sean...
mad props to Ryan, Luzz, and Deepspell, you guys ripped it sick! can't wait to do this again! great vibe in the basement!
Eco, despite anything negative that may have ocurred, these boards are full of nothing but positive feedback about you and your party, anything sketchy was entirely unrelated to you so as far as your concerned the event was a smashing success, got to hear your set and martin's for a bit, though I was downstairs for the most part but from what i caught from your sets, both you and martin killed!
good seeing alot of you out there and thanx for the support for these types of events! it's really the cornerstone of the scene.

| Originally posted by ProggieGuy The DJ that came on in the basement for the afterhours was just as much of a prick. His name is Galen Mica. I hope you're reading this. Otherwise it was a great job by Tyas, Luzz and Al. It was definitely worth the trip up from Philly. Luzz, I'm glad to see you got your headphones back. |
both upstairs AND downstairs... i saw a lot of Shelter regulars staying DOWNSTAIRS to groove to Ryan, Chris, and Deepspell's set, even after the deep house party so rudely started up on main floor... interesting haha
