good review though

Fair enough, but you don't buy an LP to play in the club.

Went to his set as recent as last saturday at zoukout in Singapore.

have to say although his mixing is good he's track selection was utter shit when i saw him a while back. as i remember before leaving he played 2 mixes of rocky your body rock and two mixes of punk.

his recent productions havent appealed to me either. it seems he's aiming for the pop charts rather than the dance.

Well, I'm surely not a professional on this thing of evaluate Fery Corsten, because I don't know much but, one thing is certain, for me, Fery corsten as he is now, is kind of boring.... I listened to Fire and was like "mehh", then it come the ron van den beuken mix, and rock the house completely. Much, much btter (for me of course).

But his productions of the past years were much better.

Posted by gizzymcg on Dec-13-2006 17:46:

Ferry used to be amazing but the "LEF" style has done nothing for him and imo he doesnt even play that much trance anymore. Should go back to what hes good at because the LEF stuf is just pure gash

Posted by jonSun on Dec-13-2006 23:39:

I never got into much of his early stuff except for his Trance Energy set from 2000. Thanks again Monty But the last couple years his live sets have been great. Some good productions too.

Posted by ibizzzaaa on Dec-14-2006 00:37:

I saw him in Charlotte, NC back in October, and I have to say that I was a bit nervous about Ferry not trying to play a good set because, come on - it is Charlotte, not Miami, NYC or Atlanta. But my doubts were in vain. Ferry played for just a little less then 3 hours. His set flowed well, got everyone dancing, no one wanted the party to stop. Although he did play a lot of his LEF tracks and all the usuals such as Breafast "The Air Between", Super8 "Get Off", BT "Somnabulist (Mark Norman Remix)" and others, I also heard many unreleased productions and his classic remix of Barber's Adagio For Strings. No messing around, just got behind the decks and gave the crowd exactly what they wanted.

My respect for him has really grown after that night as not every DJ in Top 10 would work this hard for a crowd of a mere 100 people (yeah, it was in a pretty small club) in a city - clubbing scene of which is not that big at all. He is not my favourite DJ, but his sets are definintely much more interesting and well played than those of many other trance DJ's.

He's great live too.

oh yah def, his WAS MUCH BETTER, then g &d's artist album.

I will try to upload the set within the next few days.

Posted by raynbo on Dec-14-2006 19:26:

I really like his productions, especially his new style. It makes a nice change from the majority of stuff I've heard played around lately.
I'd really like to see him live, but I think it'd have to be a longer set for me. I've heard some of his shorter ones and they're too full of his own work, but I guess that's what happens.
I just hope he doesn't turn into what PVD used to do and make every production and remix sound the same.

Posted by Polt on Dec-14-2006 19:42:

I see where many of you are coming from when you view his LEF album poorly. I think that LEF is just of refreshing. It is an album I'd listen to for fun. It definitely isn't like his previous works, but that is okay with me. He wanted to try something different, and I think he succeeded.

I agree with the majority here. His new stuff, whilst being good, is not a patch on the Ferry of old. The guy has a back catalogue of pure classics.

Posted by sherifyosti on Dec-15-2006 09:41:

Iwanna say that i have a classic radio show for him

Shows his real roots in 01 ,but without any ID

i hope can upload it later

Posted by DJ Patski on Dec-15-2006 11:18:

I havn't heard too much of his old stuff, can somebody make some recommendations?

I'm loving his new stuff (Especially Beautiful & the original version of Fire)

EON - Talk To Me / Pocket Damage
System F - Needle Juice
4X4 - Indigo

I was a big fan of Right Of Way and his sound during the RoW era a few years ago. I definitely loved the buildups in tracks like Star Traveler, Right Of Way and Kyoto but I dunno, LEF just didn't cut it for me. I also liked the tracks he spun during his mixes a bit more back then as well. He's still a solid DJ but as I'm not a fan of the direction he's recently taken I don't listen to him as much as I used to.

Posted by Xtatica on Dec-15-2006 13:29:

Again like most here I prefer his remixes - he can stand well on his own but his remix talent is awesome.

Posted by TheVrk on Dec-15-2006 15:19:

As big a trance fan i am, i've never really gotten into Ferry.
Never hated his stuff, but just never REALLY got into 'em

Could probably list more and more!

Not really feeling his newer stuff, Cubikated is good though, sounds great on a big soundsystem.

Take a look at his live sets over that past year or so, every other tune he plays is a ferry production.

His best set, is his 2hour mix on radio one in March 2000.

You asked for opinions, and he gave you his.
That is all.

1994-2004 - brilliant
anything after - horrendous

Ferrys' problem was that the thing he was best at, the full on uplifting dutch trance went out. Everyone was looking at where he'd go next, he even had a spell of playing borderline techno stuff in 2004, but then he seemed to go into the row/lef stuff which was an abonomation. Best works were 97-2001 imo, and he played a lot of good livesets too back then. Now It's not worth it at all, sad really.
