For me player of the 90's was Baggio. The guy was incredible before his knees just gave way.

Aristronica...what you on about different kind of players? All the same type of player.

there's no way that you can tell me Zidane, Del Piero and Bergkamp played the same roles for their respective teams.

Zidane was more of a playmaking threat, a central midfielder with superb ball distribution skills, yes he scored - but on freekicks and long dribbles mostly.

Del Piero was a full-on striker. Never held on to the ball for longer than a quick run into the penalty area and I'll be fucked if you show me a run longer than 20 meters from him. Clearly, as I've stated before, he was a specialist on one-timing the ball with deadly accuracy no matter whether it was from the penalty, free-kick, or a pass served anywhere his feet or head or knee can reach it.

Bergkamp is actually one of my top three favorite players of all time (DP and Solskjaer being the other two). The man was very well rounded as a striker. He could pass and shoot with both feet. But I think the beauty of Bergkamp was that he made other players better too. Look at what he did for the likes of Kanu - made good players out of average ones with his vision and deft passes. In some instances when Del Piero might shoot the ball, and often score, Bergkamp would pass it off and get an assist.

Now I'm not saying one is better than the other, I'd hate to play that game especially when there's people in different positions on different teams. But to back up to my original statement of the thread - Del Piero was the best first touch striker of the ball that I've ever witnessed... and I watch an unhealthy amount of football.

god i miss montero. he started sucking in the later years of the 00's, but he's vintage juve. i think he holds (no source) the record for most bookings in all of serie a... heck i wouldn't be suprised!

edit first half of the 90's. baggio was my childhood hero, but he slowly faded after the '94 world cup and his move to milan clubs.
