Your observations fit most of the facts, but I would have to disagree with your conclusions... and everyone in Anglo Canada knows who Roy Dupuis is
I think the angle that you aren't considering is that the division is by complicit design.
The purpose of which I think can be understood by asking the question "What makes a country rich?"
Imagine a book of Canadian History that is 100 pages long. If you remove all the 'friction' between Quebec and the rest of Canada how many pages do you lose? And how much richness do you lose?
Now imagine a book of Quebec History (i.e. Records the Identity of Quebecers) that is 100 pages long. Quebec culture wins huge dividends because of the division.
***
Simplified analogy... if Canada were (Chip Wagon/Casse Croute) Fries, then the craque would be Salt... without it, the Fries would be bland.

What do you care what us stupid anglos think? We're such a minority in this province!
We may be stupid when it comes to the seperation issue, I've lived here my entire life and still cant figure out why it's in Quebec's best interest, but the truth is who cares what we think? You dont need Quebec's english minority vote to seperate from Canada! You need all the french people and immigrants that had their votes illegaly thrown out by your saviors the PQ
Insert generic malek response: Go pop pills (there I did your work for you)

You are making a fundamental error on what it means to be human.
The record of civilization is not a trip from dystopia to utopia in as short an amount of time as possible. It's a journey that understands that civilization has its foundation and its expression in stories and through story telling.
We all innately understand that conflict is the perfect catalyst for stories. The perfect cultural example:
Luke Skywalker *with* an Evil Emperor is a heroic leader of a rebellion.
Luke Skywalker *without* an Evil Emperor is a moisture farmer.
In a example that is more Canadian I'd offer the story of Voice of Fire, the painting which presently hangs at our National Gallery. If you replace the purchase of that painting with the purchase of a group of seven painting then you would have gotten 10 minutes of conversation and 10 lines in a newspaper article. But as it was, it generated millions of hours of conversation on the nature of art. The conflict enriched our culture.
If we jump to Western Canada, when they gave power to Preston Manning they weren't being anti-Canadian, they were creating a new piece to play in the story of Canada... 'The Western Reformer'. If they had instead elected 'Joe Liberal' then the story of Canada wouldn't be as rich.
Civilization fosters story telling first, and progress second. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Life is not made to be a story

Perhaps I have placed too much importance on the word 'history', as it is just a coarse record, and only one aspect of the importance of story.
Look at sports. Sports contain a set of rules which are designed to create stories.
"Did you see that goal?"
"What an amazing punt return"
"Wow, I can't believe our team battled back and made it to game seven!"
Now look at daily life. Culture provides us with a set of rules which are designed to create stories.
"Remember on New Year's eve when?"
"Do you think I should ask her to dance?"
"I'm so stressed I have a job interview tomorrow"
To maintain the parallel observation. Hockey is a finely tuned game. It creates all sorts of stories within it (goals, penalties), and all sorts of stories between it (playoffs, trades).
Culture is just as finely tuned, for the exact same reasons as Hockey. The purpose of nations and provinces and ideologies is that they provide a framework for story in exactly the same way an ice rink does.
"He's crossing the blue line..."
"At the premier's conference today in St. John's..."
If our movies, and tv shows, and books and paintings are rich, then that richness is a direct reflection of the richness that exists in our daily lives.

I proper lol'd.
Canada doesn't have a history, b/c majority of its people do not want to learn about it. It's not because Canada doesn't have a history worth learning about, but it's just that what gets taught at least up to high school (and even in university level) is full of stuff like glorifying Louis Riel, deporting Japanese Canadians to Prairies, how the Europeans killed off the Natives, etc.
Sure, they are important to know and understand so that the future generation do not make the same mistake, but it's also important to know the Canadian heroes and how much Canada kicked ass from time to time and how Canada did important stuff once in a while.
Honestly, would you want to learn about the bad stuff Canada did? If you are an immigrant to Canada, would you feel proud to be Canadian and accept the Canadian identity as your own?
Not to mention that since education is a provincial responsibility, every province sets different standard and teaches different subjects. I'm sure Quebec would teach a lot about Quebec history and not Canada in general (other than fact that how much Anglos are screwing Quebec over). Newfies probably talk about how much they get drunk and how screech is good.
Hard for people to see commonality with others all over Canada when they do not know the history of Canada.
Right. Now where is that damn poutine! (It's a sad thing when the best poutine you can get in Ontario is at a KFC)
