He's right - what else would I write on a score? Notes and notation, although the auxilliary notation (dynamics, accents, etc.) is usually too much of a hassle to be worth the effort, so... just notes!

No, I need to mess around on my keyboard to get melodies. Ever since I started composing, I was never able to hear something in my head first, I had to create it....then make adjustments from there.

ALL THE TIME. I'll be out somewhere, hear something, or whatever, and get this crazy melody in my head and by the time I get home, I'm like ughhhhh fuck what was that tune.

Good trick:

VOICE NOTES on your cell phone sing it to yourself hahah

I relate to this for some reason.

I hate it at work when I have a whole new original playing in my mind and it seems to drift into a fog. Often times, the best inspiration comes when you are farthest from your little setup, sadly.

this is why you utilise the voice recorder in your phone as you whistle the idea out

The M-Audio MicroTrack 2496! The solution to all these problems... I use it to record my inspirations AND my live DJ sets...

Hope that helps...
