| Originally posted by Rodrico a. lower upkeep? A very vague point to say the least, but to be honest, I believe consoles have much lower upkeep, since once you buy one, they dont tend to break down as often as a computer might and doesnt need as much regular cleaning and fixing. b. another mindless statistic, this might of been the truth 10 years back, but if you notice the trend is to multi platform most games for money. Meaning more and more consoles have thousands and thousands of title's, some of which are exclusive to single consoles and whereas computer games have been lacking. Any big name PC game always goes to console to sell bigger numbers, there's no exclusive titles to PC anymore (Few good computer games are exclusively for PC or MAC, unless its MMO's). Also, if you were to combine the total of console games to PC games, I think the console world blows any PC numbers outta the water. c. better games? how? what reasons? With the newer generation gaming, its not an easy claim, considering the monsters of games they create for all the new systems. Gonna call bullshit on this one since its really just a personal opinion, then a fact. d.& e. Both are pretty much the same point, and this I can say is somewhat the truth, since you can upgrade your graphics cards to be much better than most of the processors on consoles. But at the same time, at a fairly hefty price, which within a year or two, has to be upgraded to meet the higher standards of video games. But generally computers can be built to be graphically better than most consoles. f. Most free games online are shitty, or I wouldnt consider something to brag about. But if by free you mean pirated? Well then, other consoles have been known to have pirated versions of their own games and whatnot. But technically, you are right though, more free games for computers than consoles. g. God this one is just dumb. Now you are adding in a point that doesnt have any merit in this discussion, considering that we are comparing two different gaming systems. Consoles are not meant to be tools for doing your homework, or starting a business, so I dont know why you would point that out. Other than that, consoles have games that are used as great learning tools for children, but as most parents know, you dont buy a kid an xbox360 to help him with his alphabets. Also what exactly is "new and useful things", another vague term that could mean anything. h. Consoles can use the internet, and play against others online. Lets not exclude the fact that with some of the mods for the newer systems, I wouldnt doubt that one wouldnt be able to use the internet from their Wii, or PS3 one day. i. you can chat with others online when your playing online. It may not be MSN messenger, but to be honest, why would someone care if their console had MSN or AIM? once again your comparing features that shouldnt be compared, its like comparing cell phone games and DS lite games, and then saying, yeah well a phone can call people. No shit, but were not comparing which one can call people are we? no, we're comparing video games. j. Repairing a computer is alot more costly, considering most consoles dont even break even if you hit it with a toaster oven. They build consoles very strong, and durable for years before giving out on parts. Computer can have a multitude of problems that could cost someone who doesnt know any better a small fortune. k. granted, this is true, but at what cost? anyone here ever try to upgrade a computer piece by piece into a new one? Gonna cost you quite a bit to keep up to date with all the latest hardware upgrades. You dont have to upgrade all the latest stuff, but I wouldnt say its cheap. l. Well, this can be a pro or a con. The pro is that you have a TV to turn on and watch while the computer is on. Con is you have to buy a monitor for the computer, which runs for about the price of a PS3 if you want something snazzy. Thats just for the monitor too? Granted you get lots of uses from it, so its better to use a monitor for the comp. and leave the tv for watching tv. m. ah, the beauty of PC, I love running old emulated systems on my PC and enjoying the classics. If it werent for the fact that now all newer consoles are letting people play older games on the systems, it definately is a great point. But it loses a bit of its edge now that the newer systems let you play their classics on them. Still, nothing like playing some old nintendo games without having to blow on cartridges and jamming an object into the old systems to make those old games work. Funny part is, I havent own a console since Nintendo 64, and have been a PC game guy for years. I agree with some of the points, but with the new consoles out, im definately picking up a Wii, cause it just looks much better and more innovative than any PC/game out there. Not to say I wont be buying a new computer for the newer games for PC either. There are some games that just work better for PC, like FPS, or MMO's. I have always stayed more true to PC gaming, but I've just found that PC's are different than consoles in too many ways to compare. I just love my computer way too much for its multipurposes than to consider it a greater gaming console. Computers and consoles are like apples and oranges, both are good, and in their own way. Nowadays consoles are so advanced, its becoming so much worth it to own one. |
the point about the computers having better graphics and processing power shows u really have no idea what your talking about
a console system is pretty much a computer that is MAXED for gaming/gfx performance, even with parts of lesser quality it will still out perform most PC setups, if you wanna talk about the higher end gfx cards out , yea obsiouvsly it will give the computers performance a nice edge over the console but the cost of the card alone will close to the console price alone, never mind the cost of the rest of the computer
and for the record im all about computers heheheh except i do enjoy my modded xbox that has NES,SNES,Genesis, and 64 with MANY MANY MANY games for each already loaded on to the harddrive
so yea, peace to that point as well

Who gives a shit.
I've got an RSS feed set to deliver news to me every 30 seconds regarding the online Wii stock of Futureshop, Best Buy, The Source, Costco, Sears, and Toys R Us. All I need now is to set this thing to send me a text message whenever stock becomes available.
I'll be buying 2, for good measure.

| Originally posted by Dr. Z the point that i was trying to get across is that even though the computer compares well with consoles (on a GAMING basis), all the other functionalities of the computer completely outweigh the rationality of buying a console i wrote points up there in less than 5 minutes if i wanted to make them argument proof i would have tried ie. if you add all the console games made, plus all the games made for a computer, you get the number of games available on a computer, which is clearly more than number of games available to a console, this is because of emulation |
