sober for me - although sometimes the best VOCAL ideas are when I have had a few
i dont mind producing when ive had a few puffs of a joint or something.
however, if im totally munted on pills or pissed out of my skull then yeah making music is just out of the question.

Acid is a different beast altogether. I'll grant you that some of the most interesting/famous artists were heavily into the 'cid, and if you're the type of person who can handle producing music (or doing anything else of significance) while on a trip then you're bound to get some interesting results. Of course, most people can barely handle the trip itself, let alone do anything productive while they're having it.
The effects of that are totally different from booze or herb, though. Booze just removes any judgment or restraint whatsoever and you don't realize how shitty something might sound. Dope puts you into a half-asleep state where pretty much anything sounds good, E obviously even more so. Acid, though, that completely warps a person's thought patterns and the results are really random and unusual. Sometimes the results of that can be good; although, again, acid is dangerous to screw around with - it's an 8-hour commitment without taking into account the time dilation, so it's not something I'd casually take before a production session just to see what it does.

I can speak for myself and some people whom I've observed, but you're right, I can't speak for everyone.
I find the weed debate in particular to be irritating at times because I hear the same arguments about driving. Some people really, truly believe that they are better drivers baked, and I've seen them baked and I know they're terrible (it's gotten to the point where I'm often able to point out the stoned drivers on the road because I've seen so many of them now).
So, maybe some people really do produce better stoned. I don't know - it's possible. What I do know is that there are several people who insist that they do, but actually don't. That's what I'm basing my opinion on, and maybe there are exceptional cases I'm unaware of or maybe my "sample" is abnormal.
I don't speak for everyone, I speak for a general observable trend.
Granted I don't get out much... but this thread is very disturbing.

Everyone knows heroin junkies make the best music end of story. Some of you guys need to relax a bit and live a little. Not to much just a little.
