Well obviously ripping them from vinyl is better. After all, vinyl adds analog.

I TOLD YOU HOW TO MAKE KICKS.

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=369751

But now I want to ADD something because I read one of thoughtlessjex's posts and hes really really smart okay? I wanna say after you make a kick drum run it through a TUBE AMP. Then BEEF UP THE MIDS until it becomes a wall of noise.

Then press it to vinyl and rip it FOREVER.

I love adding some analog to my posts to give them that extra edge.

My posts are whimpy and thin. Think it's because they're digital instead of analog

Yeah right.

Are you sure it isn't the other way round?

Well, I know what I'm doing when I get home...

Who cares where your kick comes from, as long as it sounds good. You can always eq it anyway. Nobody is going to pinpoint where you got your kick unless it's the kick Paul Van Dyk uses in every track he has ever produced.

Just for shits and giggles, if you can find a kick from a discontinued German synth called Quasimidi Raven......it has one sick kick on there. It sounds very similar to Paul Van Dyk's kick.

Im pretty sure its not the other way around, someone should clarify me on this.

But whats the difference, even if it is, they've all been used up to their threshold imo.

And later, it turns into an anal log.

Yeah. It's better compressed too, otherwise it'll just make a mess of your mix.

I wonder how Tyas' penalty kicks are...

Not too much compression though, otherwise you risk making it too fat, which will clog up all the headroom and you'll have to get a professional to clean it up.

I dunno. Once you've made a mess of the mix, it's hard to fix even in the mastering stage.

the trick to the perfect kick is to buy a sample of the perfect kick. end of. why try processing a shit kick when you can start with the perfect kick anyway?

Posted by DJ Shibby on Jan-06-2007 01:57:

They use vengeance essential club samples.

because the emphasis is not on the kick, its on the machine gun basslines... can't have both in most cases.

ok im pretty sure anyone decent around here will tell you theyve never used a kick with no processing to it at all..

Posted by flutlicht junky on Jan-11-2007 21:05:

Just adding to the previous comments:

I mailed Sean and asked him about his tracks (not about the kick im afraid), And he said he used alot of sidechain to keep the bass and kick isolated so he could rack the volume up loud plus adding a pumping movement.

I also read a Darren Tate interview and he made an interesting point on EQ'ing a kick drum

quote:
I'll listen to a kick drum and think, bearing in mind where club speakers have their pronounced point ? generally around 60Hz to 100Hz ? I know that for this particular mix that I'm working on, I really want it thumping at around 100Hz, that's the really chunky part of the sound, whereas the really low part just creates an unwanted 'mmmph' that isn't necessary, so I may roll off the really low sub frequencies. On top of that I might then compress it to make it a little bit tougher.

Posted by substorm on Jan-11-2007 21:29:

I think that the kicks that they use are made in like Soundforge or Wavelab, and the proccesed thru many diffrerent elements..

OR, they just use the wonderful Kickpack i got a hold of

Cheers
C
